You should really watch Mick Gordons talk at the Games Developer Conference (GDC) about his creating process for this soundtrack. It's really really interesting.

I dont think i've ever been more personally offended at Chels 7/10 rating for someone else, than i have been for this one. You might as well have said Mozart was just OK. Let me just throw in... how difficult it is... the SKILL IT REQUIRES as a metal vocalist... to GROWL... THAT BRUTALLY... ON KEY!
In the "bridge" of the song (which may be hard to pick out in all the adrenaline but has I think its best iteration around 5:39), Alex harmonizes his lower notes with the riffs to add to the emotional impact of the performance. This is a conscious choice. He did not have to do this. But he did... and made it look EASY. It isn't.
