I have a uniform inspection to a unit I just got too thank you ma’mm you saved my life
I have one tomorrow and I'm struggling lol
Weirdo
Yo same here, I'm a Cadet Sergeant and I don't know how to sew.
@@BobGnarly420?
You, my good lady, are a life saver.
Watching this tutorial & sewing on the exact same patch. I start the accelerated program next month! Go mavs🎉
Really helpful video, thanks so much! Being so close up and your tips on how to align the needle were great.
Glad it was helpful!
This is really helpful. Thank you for sharing this video.
Thanks, this helped me put tons of patches on my shirts, jackets, ect 😊
Thanks for the info. It's been years since I added patches and now the patch I'm putting on my husband's aikido uniform is not just a simple circle with a one color edge. I guess I'll just do one color at a time, back stitching at the end of each color and go very slow in the area where the black edge of the patch is super narrow.
Excellent and skillful way to do it! Thank you!!
my tip is Dritz wondertape. use that instead of pins as it lays flatter and you don't have to wrestle the pins out of your way if sewing smaller patches.
Thanks! this helped me sew my first thing with my new sewing machine (never even touched a sewing machine before I got this).
Thankyou for that, but I am fuming that it's so difficult yet . You made it look so easy 😂
I have a question. How do uou sew a patch to an exsiting shirt pocket, without closing the pocket?
How do you make it so you don't close off the sleeve?
You are an excellent teacher!
Thank you
Thank you. I liked your video.
Excellent tutorial
I found a basting spray. I go outside to spray lightly and evenly on the back of a patch. The spray makes the patch just tacky enough to hold the patch in place while I sew around it. The basting spray will allow me to reposition the patch if I need to before I start sewing 🧵.
Basting spray makes it so much easier!
thank you. i am planning to have my own tshirt business with patches 😊
Congrats, I wish you all the luck with your business!
Great easy to follow video! No way did I want to sew them on by hand😩
great work
Thanks for the clear explanation!!!
You're welcome and thanks for watching.
Thank you very nice!!
Thank you!
Thank you!!
I'm going to collage and I have to buy a lab jacket like that one.im gonna make a patch and sew it like in your video 😊
How did that ever come out?
Useful for reenactors like me.
I was about to see my patch by hand until I saw this.
I’ve never really used a sewing machine but do you need to tie a knot on the thread before cutting the loose pieces?
Thank you this was so helpful for me. I do have one question, if the patch has an iron on option and you still want to sew it on, can you iron on first then sew around it?
Yes, you can! I have an updated video where I'm sewing the patch on my scrubs top and I iron it first :)
Great video. .. I wish I could do this with only one hand.
perfect!
thanks!
I have my black belt lvl I can u help me sew it on my uniform?
What size and type of thread do you use?
How do I go about sewing 9x9 chenille patches on hoodies ?
Sometimes i saw an extra cloth underneath the fabric like a 3-layer thing. Top is the patch, then the fabric, then the extra cloth. When is the need to use this? Thanks.
What if you have two patch’s? Need to on the army?
Thank you for this! Do you recommend a heavy duty needle or the general one that comes with my machine?
I'd move to a stronger/heavy-duty needle.
That was a roller coaster to watch! sucha tight margin! MAde it look so easy! A question. Do you have any videos showing a patch being sew on at the wrist of a sleeve? :) (hoodie or jumper)
I don't but I do have one that needs to sewen on. I'll work on that this coming week.
@@LetsLearnToSew thank yu sooo much! I look forward to it! 🙏
I need help seeing on a logo crest for a hockey jersey
how do you sew the patch without sewing the sleeve shut??
You have to slide the sleeve over the arm of the machine as if your machine arm is wearing the garment.
Thank you!
@@LetsLearnToSew How do you spin it around as you sew then?
@@jaxongedden7174 You have to work it slowly and in some areas, you will have to cinch the underside off the arm. I'm doing another one in a few weeks. I'll do a more detailed video and set up a second camera for different angles.
How would I go about sewing a patch on a lined coat?
You would have to either remove the lining or follow the same steps as above.
Almost done with nursing school, but I have “picture day” scrubs that I haven’t sewed my patch on. But I’m having to hand sew this one 😫
Congrats on being almost done! I have 11 days left until I graduate. It is such an amazing feeling to be almost done.!
Thanks for the reply. As usual YT won't let me reply to your comment.
Is there a sewing machine you recommend for a beginner to be able to sew patches? I was looking at the Singer simple because of the price, but will I have the features needed to do something like you just did? Thank you!
I usually suggest the Brother cs6000i (amzn.to/2sGgHng) for starting out because it has a lot of features including speed control. That allows you to slow the machine down while maneuvering around the patch or while doing your regular sewing. The biggest thing is to use the correct needle.
Thank you! I am also interested in sewing patches onto winter hats. Will the arm raise high enough to sew a thick patch onto a winter hat? Sorry for all of the questions!
Yes, you'd be able to do winter hats on it.
What is the white backing material on the inside of the clothing (in this case, a shirt) and when is that backing necessary ?
If you mean what people put over the back of appliques and patches it's usually a special stabilizer to prevent itching or rubbing. amzn.to/2iWipM1
I'm sewing patches on to pocket t-shirts. Is there a general placement rule for doing so ? I'm realizing that I may have to do it by hand, otherwise I will sew the pocket closed. Which makes me wonder...On pocket shirts, are patches usually placed on the pocket, or the opposite side of the chest on the shirt ?
If the patch is for fun there really are no placement rules. If you don't care about using the pocket you can sew it on with your machine. The other option, depending on the size and your machine, you could slide the pocket over your free arm and stitch most of it on the machine and keep the pocket functional.
Would using a zig-zag stitch be better, though? I was thinking of doing this so that the edges would be held down..
Edit: Never mind. I did it the way you showed here and it works just fine. Thanks!
i think zig zag would be more attention catching than trying to fly under the radar with a regular stitch, but I don't see why you couldnt
Can this also work for Jean jackets and what do I need to put the sewing machine settings on.
increase stitch length and use appropriate needle ..they do have some for jeans/heavy duty
How do you sew patches onto police, fire and Sherriff jackets and pockets?
what kind of needle would you use for really thick material like a book bag?
100/16, 110/18 is even stronger and 120/20 is strongest. You likely will be fine with the 100/16
Will the patch stay a long time without falling off or would thicker thread be stronger
chances of it coming off if stitched all the way around the border are pretty slim
If I will need to eventually take the patch off and sew it into another item, would this be the best technique or should I do it by hand. Just don’t want to mess the patch up. Thanks
You can still use this technique, just don't use a short stitch length.
Also, you can run a razor all the way around between the patch and the garment to cut the thread. Then just pull the patch off. The patch and stitching will have left a circular indentation, but it will disappear with a couple washes!
What tension did you use?
My machine auto-adjusts the tension for me but for a patch you should only have to slightly decrease it from what you normally use.
Oh darn I’ve sowed the whole sleeve shut. Never mind, make a vest out of it.
How do I do this, without sewing my sleeve shut? My patch is located far down, by the elbow (and it has to be right there). My jacket is too inflexible, to pull it so far that it makes the machine "wear" the jacket sleeve...
Sadly, you'll have to do it by hand if it's that far down.
This is what I needed to know.
Thanks for sharing, I don't have a sewing machine. How much do they normally charge to get it done?
Many scrub shops charge $5 per patch
@@LetsLearnToSew thank you for responding 😊
thanks for video.
What if the patch is much further down how do you get the arm into the machine to sew that seems impossible
In that case you have to open up the sleeve
@@LetsLearnToSew I figured, was hoping for a better way! Ty!
I wouldn't want to sew it to it, Cox it's for my ushers and d shirt is dia. So would want an attachable and detachable badge 📛
Wow I’m using the same patch lol
Congrats on getting in the nursing program!
can u show how u sew the patch from a different angle. It was too close, i was hoping if someone could hold the camera. im having troube trying to sew on my patches. Additionally, how do i sew a patch onto my pants?
For your pants, it depends on where you want to sew the patch. I can try to record it from a different angle the next time I need to sew a patch on a sleeve.
Can you please show what type of sewing machine you used to sew on that patch
Thank you
A Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 875.
Thank you
Been looking for a way to sew patches on my blue jeans
what size or type of needle did you use?
I'm pretty sure that was an 80.
How do you know how much stitch length to do based off the type of patch ?
And how do you determine which size needle needed ?
I need a starter sewing machine. I know basics of sew but my wife does not. What would you guys recommend.
just started myself got a cheap one from my local thrift store learning is hard but now my skills are improving
Are you using a straight stitch or zigzag?
I used a straight stitch, but you can use a narrow zigzag stitch.
Does it work for super bowl patches?
It would work with any patch that was intended to be sewn on.
Let's Learn To Sew ok Thank You
I'd like to see a video of how to sew a rubber label onto a garment, it tends to stretch out every time I try, if someone has a solution to this please let me know, thanks for the video!
Are you using any type of spray adhesive to hold it in place as you sew?
@@LetsLearnToSew hey thanks for such fast reply, didnt even know such thing exist :), what should I look for?
amzn.to/2Qoofrb Spray and Bond or 505 work great! I use it for all sorts of things.
Thanks! I will try it out, hopefully it will get the job done :D
How would you go about sewing a patch onto a baseball cap? Could you use a machine?
You could use your machine. I'd use a spray adhesive to hold the patch in place for sure!
How to you keep it from sewing through the sleeve?
I slid it over the free-ar, of the sewing machine. The bottom portion of the sleeve was maneuvered out of the way.
As a beginner, wouldn't it be easier to use blue thread and sew along the patch's field rather than trying to make a tiny white border along the white? Thanks for your help!
It probably would be easier but it wouldn't look as nice. It would also leave a lip that could bend up around the edge. Most uniform patches need to be done the way I'm showing. If it's just for fun then, yes, do what's easier and work on improving your technique. Happy sewing!
JB great question! I was wondering the same thing and I’m so glad you got a reply bc I would have done it the “easy” way and messed up my uniform.
Now do you have to cut the sleeve to put the patch on because if you sow it wouldn't it go all the way through.? And I DON'T want to cut my sleeve because I don't want to fuck up on my senior Jack.
You have to slide the sleeve onto the arm of the machine so that the sleeve is opened up. One part of the sleeve will be under the arm of the sewing machine and one part will be under the needle of the machine. Double check several times while sewing and reposition/move the sleeve around as needed.
Do you speak that way to your mother? Show some respect. What a jerk!
Have you never let out a single Fuck, Jim? If one cannot say fuck on the internet then where can one fuck?
Can you use transparent thread?
Yes, you can!
What type of machine are you using?
It's a Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 875. The technique is the same on any machine though. I also have an inexpensive Brother machine that I've also used for patches.
Let's Learn To Sew which brother one?
Why is on my logo shirts patches are sowed from the back?
Usually, logos are embroidered directly onto the shirt, not sewn on as a patch.
How to put a Readymade logo in jersey?????
Plz reply.......
It would be sewn on the same way if it's a patch. If it's not a patch you need an embroidery machine
What about washing??
What size is the patch?
I don't remember eaxactly. Maybe 4" but you should be able to put most size patches on in the same way.
A couple inches. As in 2in?
Yes, about 1.5-2" down unless you are given specific instructions.
Do you prewash before applying patch
I prewash anything I am going to sew onto if the finished item will need to be washed. It'd be bad if the jacket shrunk just a tad and then the patch stitching puckered around the edges.
@@LetsLearnToSew would ironing fix that issue?
@@HoldupW8 It may help it
Lol I’m in that nursing program right now how ironic
How exciting! I get pinned this Thursday! Best of luck to you!
So basically there's no foot to sew round patches on. Thanks!
great video but i dont have a sewing machine. showing by hand wouldve been great.
how do you sew a patch on a sleeve without sewing the sleeve shut?
That's what I show in the video. You have to slip the sleeve around the free arm of the machine
Mobile no kanha dye
Why isn't anyone commenting or questioning the proper measurements for the patch on the sleeve or her saying "a couple inches" is good enough? I just curious.
Most patches are sewn a couple of inches down on the sleeve. I don't specify in this video that I'm giving specific measurements for a nursing school patch. I do have a separate video for that and I'm very clear that you need to follow the guidelines given by the program you are taking in that video.
