The names of the plays don't really tell you what you need to do on offense. Those names tell you what each player can do, then you have to see what he does (especially option plays), and then go off script. The fact is, many plays have long names and simple route concepts with no player options or special o-line shifts

      1) Bridgewater was a backup, so since Brees could play in the playoffs, Brees played.
      2) Winston was a starter for one season with Payton and got a season-ending injury. That season was derailed by a lot of injuries not only but especially with their QB and at one point they had to bring out their 4th string QB to start a game. Still almost made the playoffs if the Rams would have held their 10 pt lead vs the 9ers

@@BHox01 I feel like I'm still the only person who remembers Week 1 of '22 _as it happened._ Yeah, Hackett took his eyes off what was going on on the field for some inexplicable reason. But it was _Russ_ who trotted _off that field._
      &
      Jeudy
      was _FLOORED_
      by
that. It was never Hackett's decision.
Hackett didn't call on the FG unit. He sent Russ out there to get the 1st down. Russ went up & even looked like a child begging to go to the bathroom _then_ the FG unit came out. I was stunned anyone bought that this was Hackett's decision! What benefit was there in running out the clock _or_ kicking a FG no one thought could be made?
This is another example of American culture's refusal to face even remotely disturbing truths. I mean how disturbing _can_ this fact have been. Are any of you *married* to Russ? But y'all shy away from truth in favor of obviously incorrect memes at every opportunity.
For instance, if one made a split-screen video of Caleb's plays, would there be a single skill we haven't seen Fields do *in the NFL at the same skill **_level?_* Toss the ball 50+ air yards with a flick of the wrist, on the run, at weird arm angles, always hitting the target receiver? Like Caleb, the only difference for Fields is that his college receivers regularly caught these. Somehow Fields gets blamed for his receivers' inability to catch.
He puts the ball where it belongs on timing plays, his receivers slow down & arrive late. His fault. He hits receivers in stride, they lose passes that hit them in the hands (Mooney, Calypool). His fault. His HC calls for him to Not Throw to certain receivers on certain plays. Everyone says "they had to do this to simplify the offense for him." So his fault again. He elevates that offense to being #1 3 weeks straight _BEFORE_ they acquired D.J. Moore in a league with Allen, Mahomes, Burrow & a WR _trio._ The Bears lose all those games.
_That _*_got_* blamed on Fields too somehow. I have never seen any QB get so much unreasoning hate! He has the arm talent of Marino, better rushing ability than Lamar & with no o-line or receiving corps made a team the best offense with his own HC calling plays that killed drives. Could _Brady_ have done this?
No. He's better than Brady. But since the culture just believes rhetorical, empty memes over facts, watch, someone's gonna claim that Fields is responsible for _something!_ "He holds onto the ball too long." What' when there's an open receiver?
Or when his o-line decides not to block defenders & the only other choice is taking a sack? Or when he's scrambling because of this?
Do other QBs *drop* the ball when scrambling? Is that what Fields should do? Or how about when the only receiver open was the one his HC said never to pass to? As I said, that killed drives. "He stares at open receivers."
Yeah: his HC said not to throw to certain ones. He has to wait until they turn so he can read their jersey #. So, he's damned if he throws to his first read, doesn't, & everything else, even when the HC won't allow him to throw to other receivers or that one.
Yet somehow despite having other QBs on the team I guess it's also his fault he was started despite being a total bust? You know, making them the #1 offense but the defense losing those games 'bust.'

Well yeah, but c'mon they have Bo Nix now. And he's a "point guard" QB. Surely this will work out better for the Broncos than it did for the Panthers. It's not like the Panthers hired a shitty coach who couldn't adapt his scheme to fit his players. This is Russell Wilson's fault. And if Nix fails under Payton, it's because Nix is a bust, not because Payton is garbage. He's way better than Frank Reich! But when the Broncos are picking first next year, at least they'll be able to draft a new QB in the horribly deficient QB draft class of 2025

I'm only halfway through but that interview with the lady sounds like propaganda because Sean Payton has never developed a quarterback. Drew Brees was already becoming a pro bowler in San Diego. He threw for around 3500 yards in 2004-05. He was top 10 in every metric, I don't remember off the top of my head but had recently looked at his numbers and they were very good for that era. Payton took somebody that was arriving and made him better and fluked his way into a SB. The stars aligned that year through injuries and mistakes.
Outside of that he's done nothing to prove he's a genius or great coordinator. Brees carried him. Bridgewater and Winston had better seasons with different team and that's even when you average down to the games played, besides TDs wirh Bridgwater and then again thosebwere QBs who already played and were good. Bridgewater's awful knee injury was why he became a journeyman. In fact the most damning thing against Payton is...TAYSOM HILL.
That project was Sean trying to prove everybody how smart he is, having him split reps and be a QB wildcat hybrid type player. But when Taysom had to play QB he did not look good. Kamara and garbage was bailing him out by turning nothing into something. My Eagles were a 3-8-1 win and showed that Taysom had not developed in four seasons with Payton.

Bingo. Look at Nix's numbers vs Georgia last year. 56.8% completion rate, 173 passing yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs. But I'm sure there's some other reason Nix's numbers improved so much and his time to throw went from 2.65 to 2.41 when he left the SEC. As a team with a different "point guard" QB, Broncos better make sure that the interior of their o-line holds up or else Bo is toast

On the same token, Sean Payton was used to 1st Ballot Hall of Fame-level QB play for nearly 15 years and probably should have tempered his expectations.
