I'm glad there is a demo version, I wish there was one for the grass as well. I'm not that professional in Blender that I would need to use the full amount of the addons. One other problems is knowing what you want to make, but you don't know the correct term for it. Andrew Price's tutorials - perfect, fast, everything is made clear and it's not boring to watch. I owe him pretty much everything I've done so far, having an incredible experience with Blender
Man, watching this in 2023 makes me feel so proud of the advancements this tech (Blender in particular) has made thus far. Wow. Edit: Probably no on is going to read this comment, but I'll just leave it here. :)
OMG! You absolute boss! I've been trying to use hdr and I've encountered all of the problems you said. From cost, Memory issues to fiddly nodes. Thank you Andrew and thank you blender guru!
lol I was confused on why it wouldn't render until I realized you have to click the checkbox by the thumbnail. Thank you SOOOO much for this! This will be extremely helpful for future renders!
as a hobbyist blender user (and also to be born in a country where 1 US dollar equals to 20.000 currency unit!!!) i can not afford pretty much anything "-_- . but the 3 free skies are pretty good already, i guess i can live with it. thank you for everything you have been doing for blender Andrew, you're my idol.
Guru Do u still give the add-on to try it out ? I tried to access you link but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Please please email me at: mwmpho@yahoo.com Thanx
I was just thinking about HDRi and you came up with a practical and immediate solution. I'm very grateful, Andrew, thank you! 28 will buy the final version.
For those of you that may not want to use an addon, you can achieve a similar result with the inbuilt Sky Texture node. Create the setup from the video, then just after the Background node, add a Mix Shader. The second input to that should be another Background node, with the same sky input, but without the math nodes for brightness input. The factor input to the mix shader should be a Light path 'Is Camera Ray' node output. The strength of the second Background node is the visual brightness of the sky, while the multiply and add values affect the actual lighting.
Ultranerdguy yes but how is he saving memory costs? At least he made it seem as if his add-on saves memory, unless it's just a marketing thing to make us throw money at him.. False advertisement! lol
Rodger Rabbit The HDR images are upwards of 5-6 gb *each* (this is based off of the images shipped with the demo addon, I'm assuming he means he found a way to make blender use HDRs more memory efficient, and didn't physically shrink the file size) which is fucking enormous for an image file, and that size puts a lot of strain on blender and your GPU (or CPU if you're rendering that way)
Senor Cardgage yes that is what is meant by saving memory. Some things are memory expensive so i was hoping that his addon really is not expensive memory-wise, not storage-wise. Low-cost or memory efficient, same thing :)
I remember last time I tried to do some HDR with the files coming from the grass essentials, there was a "memory bug" with the 970 cards. I should check if that's fixed. Thank you very much for the free demo, it will allow me to do just that.
But the fact remains that in 3 or 4 minutes he managed to explain clearly and concisely how to setup a HDR to do the lighting.Which is why i saw this video. It doesn't bother me that he advertises his product at the end, it's a lot of work and it's only natural that he charges for it.Still he offers 3 or 4 setups which to many people it's enough lighting wise.
Man I switched from Max to Blender 2.9 It is so much faster and efficient. 3DS Max takes 10 years to load up for no reason. Only thing I miss is the Vray.
My computer isnt exactly the greatest and when i was using HDR's for the architecture academy i ran into a lot of problems, this will phenomenally help me. Thanks! :D
Wow, I really didn't expect a free thing to help with this. Will probably get the full version when it comes out depending on the price. I imagine this will be extremely useful. Thanks man!
I was going to mad that this was an advertisement, but the product actually looks pretty cool, not gonna lie. It might be related to my borderline fetish for good lighting, but whatever. Depending on the price, I'm thinking I'll actually get it.
Just tried out the demo on a few old scenes, though I've not done any testing re memory usage or performance yet, just from a workflow point of view this tool is going to be excellent. Good work Mr Price + team.
Thanks for the gift. The addon is useful when you don't wanna mess around with other rotation-axes than z, or translating in x, y or z. I added a mapping node in front of the rotate-z-group, to be able to rotate, translate or scale the background as needed, if needed, but if you then use the rotation-slider in the world-tab of the properties-panel, the addon will create a new "Pro Lighting: Skies"-nodegroup with a three-digits-extension and rename the tweaked one as "Custom Pro Lighting ...". Short: you can't use the sliders in the world-tab with the customized one. Consider this as a bug-report. Nice concept though, and 7.5k jpgs give quite detailed clouds. I guess compressed into jpg the portion of the black ground is far less than 50% of the pixel-data, so not much is wasted in terms of memory consumption, but if i'm not wrong at the cost of a ground-albedo, right? One could use the black portion of the jpg as a factor in order to mix the skydome with a basic background-color (with a "greater-than" to get just 0 or 1). Maybe this "groundcolor control" could be integrated into the nodegroup as a color/texture-slot in future versions. Thanks again and have a nice day!
I definitely plan on buying this sometimes soon, but I was wondering, are there any HDRs without a horizon lines, so it goes all the way around. I found that bringing it down to -1 or mirroring it makes it look strange.
@Absolutely Dreadful Nothing's illegal? It's called a good drive I have accesses to because I applied for it and passed lol, it's ran by people who port/make their own models for others to use.

thesebastianzb As stated in the instructions in the zip file, you may have to put the addon into your blender addon's folder. And then search for "pro". I managed to get that far, but whenever I try and enable the addon my blender just crashes. Using 2.75a as well.
thesebastianzb I'm fine. if you're using steam like me then C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Blender\2.75\scripts\addons is where you want it. Also you need to be using cycles render

Andrew, I admire your skills in Blender and Thank you a bunch. You are the most prolific Blender Instructor on CZcams, that I can think of but I'm not going to openly post my E-Mail address just for a demo and all the world to copy and paste it, so they can massively spam me. well then just use low resolution HDRIs I photo spheres made with my phone ... at about 1 MB each, they're not really all that bad and if you render in wide angle you can't see the pixels on the image background
At that time there weren't good free HDRIs. Now there are hundreds of them. Simply incresible
crazy to think about actually
