      +Alex Wilson Thanks :) without sounding silly - is this filmed with a wide angle lens? Or is it the way you edit it?

    • @Spendalifetime
      @Spendalifetime  Před 8 lety

      +Sapphire Beaumont Not silly at all! All of the GoPro footage is wide angle (Fish eye)...so all of the time lapse stuff yes. Everything else is just filmed with a standard kit lens. I also changed the aspect ratio in the edit which gives it the "cinema look" AKA the black bars at the top and bottom of the video. Hope that helps :)

    Hey Dude! This is amazing!!! (I think I was the 10 000th view, congrats!) I have the same camera, and have a couple of questions:
    1. How did you stabilise the footage? Was it all in Final Cut Pro?
    2. For shots like the one at 0:13, did you add the slight panning movement of the camera while you were editing? or were you moving it yourself during filming?
    3. Did you film all of your footage at 1080p 30fps? Or did you film some at 720p 60fps?
    4. What was your ISO for most of your shots? Idk much about ISO, but did you change it much?
    5. What was your shutter speed? I know you probably changed it a lot, but how do you decide what to use?
    This is so amazing - I can't stop watching it :)

    • @Spendalifetime
      @Spendalifetime  Před 8 lety +1

      +SuperDStudios Wow, thank you so much! Glad you liked it :D
      Never expected to reach 10,000 views so this is pretty awesome!
      In response to your questions:
      1. All of the footage in this video I stabilised in Final Cut Pro yeah. Providing you keep the shot fairly steady, the software does an awesome job of smoothing it out.
      2. Every shot that has some movement was done by moving the camera slowly (you need a very steady hand! haha.) It helps if you put your camera strap around your neck and have your arms out stretched so the strap is tight. Thats a really cheap way of limiting camera shake and getting some pretty nice shots!
      3. Everything was filmed at 1080p I'm pretty sure, with the frame rate set at 24fps and the shutter speed 1/50 (roughly, double the frame rate)
      4. ISO I usually try to keep as low as possible. Generally either 200 or 400...anything higher than that and the footage really starts to get grainy with the D3200. If you are in low light and need the image to be brighter, its always best to open the aperture more instead of raising the ISO, plus as you probably already know that gives you a much nicer depth of field!
      Hope that all helps, and good luck with the camera :D

    Did you use a steadicam or a tripod ? A lot of your shots are so smooths!

    • @Spendalifetime
      @Spendalifetime  Před 9 lety +1

      +Louis Reynes Thanks! Ive since bought a tripod, but this was all shot freehand :) I had to re-do a few shots but if you film it steady enough, you can stabilise the footage afterwards in the edit. I really want to buy a stedicam at some point...but this method still works pretty good :) Have an awesome trip man, New Zealand is sweeeeeeeet!

      +liam p Ive been really happy with it to be honest. The sensor isn't great, so the footage can be grainy at a high ISO, but other than that its an awesome camera for a first DSLR :) Perfect for learning on, but also you can get some really professional looking shots

    • @Spendalifetime
      @Spendalifetime  Před 8 lety

      +GD JBL Hey, thanks :) Its all edited with Final Cut Pro X. Those two effects are quite simple actually. When you are filming, you just have to quickly move the camera at the beginning and end of each clip you film. So you quickly move the camera from one direction to another - Film what you want to film - And then quickly move the camera again. Then when you are editing the footage, you cut each clip during that part where the camera is moving and blend them together using a small cross fade. The motion blur captured by the camera makes the two clips blend together :) Its quite hard to explain but I hope that helps!

    LOVE it! You know why? Most of the other travellers put up videos of the kind which we have seen like a million times before: Trying to be young, wild and free, but sticking to all the touristy paths and attractions the book offers and not really EXPLORING themselves. Just ticking off one stop after the other. Now, I am not saying that this is a bad thing, just that we all have seen these kinds of videos about New Zealand. That's why I enjoyed your video, because it shows the country and not a person who tries to demonstrate how "wild" they were :D
