  • A series of videos designed to train our volunteers and staff on the Lightkey lighting software. A lot of the details in these videos are specific to us as a church, but I left them public in case they can benefit anyone else looking to learn how to effectively use the software.

Thank you! Was wondering why one of my moving heads was spinning all the way around before beginning position effects, and this helped a lot!

Great, great light key tutorials. You’re setup is by far my favorite. Would you ever be willing to do a tutorial on how you setup your live tab

I appreciate it! Our Live tab is the cue list. We don’t use control panels in our setup since all our songs and transitions are planned out. Do you have anything specific that you would like to know?

@@Quiksilver6565 first thank for your quick reply. I appreciate it. I’m not familiar with the cue list but if that’s what you use I think I can figure that out…. Thanks so much….

Is there a way to add a cue that only changes one light at a time without resetting the other? For example: I have four lights in a row, and three of them are doing a waterfall effect, and I need the fourth one to change to solid yellow, but when I go to the next cue it will noticeably restart the waterfall effect on the first three lights. Is there a way to let them keep doing their thing uninterrupted while other lights change up?

Thanks your videos are of great help! I have a stupid question maybe, but how do you get those cue setlists in the live section? I only manage to create buttons but unable to find the list format. Thx!

Jasper Melchers GLD to know they are helping!
If you hit the little down arrow next to the “live” button and hit “manage live pages“ you can add a cue list in that menu.

This is really helpful! I having some trouble though. I have led bars with their dimmer/color properties selected for a static look and then in my cues list when I add a dimmer effect to them the effect won't take place. When I remove the preset that had the led bars selected the effect takes place, but of course not with the color I had intended. I don't have any color properties selected in that dimmer preset of course. Is there something I'm overlooking?

You would need to remove the dimmer setting from the color preset, or add color to the effect. Basically, you can't have two presets or effects affecting the same attribute or the values will fight and not do what you want. Therefore, if you are applying a dimmer effect, you don't want any preset on that light to also be affecting dimmer level

@@Quiksilver6565 Thanks for the reply! That totally makes sense now seeing it in words. Do you have all your dimmer effects duplicated with different color looks, tweak the main dimmer effect to whatever color you need for that particular song, or another method for organizing colors with your effects? I imagine I'd use the same bank of effects for multiple songs, but they would all be different colors/looks. I'm wondering the best method to organize it all now knowing I can't just throw an effect on a color preset for a fixture. Hope that makes sense!

Hi Jeremy, are you familiar with the issue that sometimes, very randomly a specific Lightkey cue, doesn't get triggered any more by Ableton? Restarting Lightkey always solves the problem, but this raises a real issue for me as it is resulting in my light show to stop during a live performance very randomly as the next cue in line doesn't get triggered and the one running ends. I'm sure the issue isn't cutting the beginning of the midi track, as the issue gets resolved by just restarting Lightkey.
    thx!|Jasper

Is it only one cue? Meaning that if you hit any other cue after it fails, it would work?
Also, is your midi only routed one direction, or both? Meaning, do you only have the midi out routed in Ableton, and only the midi in routed in light key, or are both the ins and outs enabled in each program?

    • @jaspermelchers

It’s only one specific cue that stops working, the next similar cue (same priority levels etc) does work. Only out (ableton) and in (lightkey) are enabled. When analyzing the incoming midi signals in lightkey, instead of the cue getting triggered, the actual cue page get’s triggered. Still very strange as this issue randomly happens every know and then for any cue and starts working again after trying a few times. Almost looks like the midi signal at some point gets distorted by something else in Ableton. The guys from Lightkey support are checking my ableton and lightkey project to (hopefully) find the bug.

@@jaspermelchers that’s very strange! Makes me wonder if there is some kind of lag in the communication or maybe something double assigned? Idk, very weird
