  • Hey! This week I'm gonna show you how to play 5 punk/hardcore drum beats in 7/4. These are good exercises for beginners and intermediate drummers. I included notation with this video, and I know it's rough, but I hope it helps some of you. And as always, I'm open for suggestions and tips if you have any. Enjoy!

    One tip I learned for counting 7 time is to say "sev" as opposed to "seven." Since seven is a multisyllablic word, it can be confusing at times and you may end up counting 8 without even realizing.
    Also, I'm not a drummer, but I love your content and it has helped me fill in some gaps in my own songwriting when programming drums. So thank you for that.

      Yeah! That’s such a smart way of doing it, I’m definitely going to utilize that with my counting from now on. And thanks so much, glad I can help!

    This is gonna help me with some more math-y and emo types of music too. Thanks!

      Nice! Braid was one of the first bands that introduced me to odd time riffs

    Really cool video dude:)
    Here's a personal tips : when I started to play 7/4 (or 7/8) beats I used to count it as 4/4 + 3/4 (or 4/8 + 3/8). It can help to get more comfortable with the "weird" 7 feeling

      @@PrettyCoolDrumShow That's wise. I made a mistake once, and learned my lesson. I don't recommend making them. I won't mention the cymbals in the Beat 2 notation, since those are not a mistake.
      Thanks for the channel, though, seriously. I'm not a drummer and I'm learning a lot from watching.

    Can you do a video on how to play 6th notes, and 6th note skank “fast beat”

    • @PrettyCoolDrumShow
      @PrettyCoolDrumShow  Před 3 lety +1

      Not sure what you mean, like 6/4 time signature? Or like a six stroke roll?

      @@PrettyCoolDrumShow i have no idea what the time signature is, but my friend told me there’s a way to play a fast beat using a 6th note. Bands like stapled shut do it

  • @From_A_Diverging_Timeline

    Hey Thomas! Great video. I'm a bit late checking it out, I haven't been able to play drums for the last week or so and it's driving me crazy! My roommate has some time off work and I only jam drums when she's not home to be a good roommate. I'm on disability and not working so 99 percent of the time I can play everyday. But its giving me time to play guitar which I've been completely neglecting since getting drums! Also I like to subdivide the 7 count. I count 1 2 3 1 2 3 4. It's easier for me. Is this a bad habit? Great lesson the notation is really nice. You are a drum machine!

      Also when my roommate goes back to work, this is the first thing I'm practicing. I've been wanting to try some different time signatures. I've only been drumming for 3 months now and most of the stuff I've learnt is 4/4 time. I'll check your older video on 5/4 too. Again thanks for making this content! Your channel is awesome I hope it grows. The work you put in is really appreciated. At the end of this month I'll try and support your channel.
