  • Here is a video of both techniques being performed (excuse the shaking, its hard at high magnification!). We can see in the first video the sperm swimming in the bottom of the dish and the egg and cumulus cells waiting patiently for them! Some of you may never have seen this before so note the difference in size between the egg and sperm

This week we had a debate of whether egg picks sperm or sperm picks egg. I feel that the egg chooses which sperm will enter and does this using some receptor relationship btw the two. My colleague believes the first sperm that gets there wins. If any followers in the field have an insight i would love to hear their opinion

The 2nd video is an ICSI. This is becoming the norm technique on how babies are born in fertility clinics and whilst the idea behind these 2 posts was not to push patients to not do ICSI but rather to highlight the benefits of choosing IVF, if the parameters are met. Many have commented they never had the option. Others have chosen against. Some have split cycles btw the 2

Remember, IVF treatment has many combinations. There is no set way that you must follow but rather its trying to find what works best for you. An individualised approach is always encouraged!
