I’m still trying to figure out if I understand the lyrics properly. is this song about friends-brother like situation, growing apart due to underlying issues, yet the connection being so strong that it’s keeping both going to talk, even tho the talk is not very pretty?? Is it about emotions we feel from Sandy’s side and understanding in that, he fucked up at some point?? I’m genuinely curious…the music is also very great and it keeps us interested.

From my interpretation it's about a friend/best friend he really cared about but maybe he did something and that caused them to drift away. And he never came back after. But Jamie never got over it. He still needs him. He thinks about him a lot. Maybe they grew apart because of his career? Idk. There can be many interpretations. And like the bus part, he's trying to run back to him but he stops when he sees him. He can't muster the courage.
