It took my 4 times to pass the exam. I was in despair. Full of doubt. I almost quit. I told myself I was gonna take it one more time. I prayed and ask God if I am supposed to be a medic please help me pass. And I did. I was shocked. Happy. And nervous because now I a medic. Haha. But I couldn’t be happier. I couldn’t pass my National with the 6 chances I had so I’m now retaking the class for a 2nd time and I’ve signed also up for your website and it’s helped me a lot. I just finished my EMT basic course about a month ago. I passed my psychomotor portion of the NREMT first try and I take my computer test tomorrow. In the state of KY it is within our scope of practice and training to do supraglottic airways. It's interesting how states vary in protocols and scope of practice.

I’m in nursing school, thank goodness my EMT cert gave me the experience to boost my background. I can’t wait to crossover as a pre-hospital RN. In my state, RNs can cross train at the paramedic level and once completed, can test out and serve in a dual role. #nremt#emt#paramedic

What an interesting and informative video. Very different to the levels here in Australia. In the cities and towns our base level in EMS is the equivalent of your "Paramedic", but without RSI and IO. Then we have the next level which has RSI, IO and more drugs and procedures. Then in some states you have what we call "High Acuity Paramedic". They're critical care paramedics with months of further training in operating theatres and the classroom. They typically have a minimum of 8 years experience, and can perform REBOA, blood infusion, field amputations and other surgical procedures plus having ultrasound equipment at their disposal. We also have local referral paramedic, which might be the equivalent of a community paramedic. They usually respond in vans and don't transport. They do wound management including suturing, and prescribe ABs and so on. The three BIGGEST differences between US and Australian EMS; 1. Pay levels, easy to make US$85K year, and 8 weeks leave a year is the norm. 2. To become a paramedic here you need a 3 year university degree. Many graduate with a double degree in nursing too so increasingly RNs are crewing ambulances. 3. Ongoing training and equipment. As our services are owned by their respective state governments, there's never a shortage of the latest and greatest equipment, or ongoing professional development. In two states, ambulance service is free to the user. You can have a 20 minute winch rescue and helicopter ride, a 5 minute road ambulance ride, or even a one hour ride in a aeromedical jet or turbo prop and there's no charge.

Currently studying for my NREMT-B. COVID hit while I was in my EMT class and it took forever to complete my clinicals. After I finally finished clinicals, it was time for fire academy. I switched all my focus onto fire academy, and ended up passing all my TCFP tests! Although when I switched back to EMS mode for my NREMT I realized a lot of that knowledge slipped my brain. Modern day EMTs in some jurisdiction can actually use supraglottic airways. the one i work in allows emts to do so. they're not difficult by any means, you just need to know when to use one.
