i agree with JB's comment. I've become an avid follower - and you are my go to for a lot of trim carpentry. Getting read to take on a 3 piece crown task for a powder room the professionals didn't do when the house was built (only laundry and powder room don't have crown) and thought i'd check in to see how you do it. certainly got what i needed. that said ....to JB's point -.... indeed your videos have gotten better with time : )
Decided to watch your channel from the beginning. Looks great. I'm accustomed to the later videos though and it's fun to see the change since this one. Keep up the great work!
The top cornice (ceiling) piece should be square with no profile… Also you can prefab the three piece crown, fill the nail holes, caulk and paint on the bench and then install and touchup… Way easier and faster… I do it in all my houses… I have a video on it check it out
Man I watch these old videos vs the new ones. Man you have come along g way from 2 years ago. Proud of you, you always have paid attention to detail and been meticulous all you did was improve on it all. I love it not many carpenters that care about how it looks anymore. I had to quite working for a trim carpenter because I paid attention to detail and did it right, well he didn't like that it took an extra 2-5min to make it look that much better and would rush and fuss me so I left. Not attaching my name with sloppy work. Now I'm trying to build a company and man is it difficult to find work in my area and get started. keep it up love you work ethic.
i have been watching a few of your videos, like them so much i subscribed so i could see them all. just watched from the begining of your Vids what a change you explain everything so well i can do this Thanks
Hi Richard, thanks for all the great videos. I learned so much. Is it possible that you show us how to do the 3 piece crown moulding with more detail instructions, particularly how to the base cap aligns with ceiling moulding around an inside and outside corner? Please and thank you so much!!
Hello.. I’m doing 2 piece molding. I’m going to have to end it. You went kind fast on the ending. Have another video where you drill down on the end for a two piece crown?
Hello Richard, Just wanted to let you know I really like your videos and tips, you make it look very simple But It takes skill and you got it. I wish you were in Los Angeles I would tag along just to learn your technique Love you work. Rudy
Fairly new to your channel, have really learned a lot from your videos, the main thing I’ve learned is how damn good you are, and how bad I am at cutting crown, you sure make it look easy, so far I’ve wasted about 10 ft trying to get everything right. Lol Great videos keep em coming, I’m getting there thanks to you.
Whoever chose the music must have the same nervous system I have. It's so relaxing. Or rather, it puts you in the zone. Like relaxed alertness. In addition, the low volume comments sound like it's part of the song.
Finish Carpentry TV You have an amazing talent. 2 quick question what size nails are you using in this video to attach crown Moulding and what size is the crown Moulding I really like the style you have chosen.
Nice work. Are you nailing into studs or just toenailing into drywall. Im doing triple crown in a million dollar home and the builder told me the framers didnt put any nailers far eoungh out for the base on the ceiling . The truss system is a nightmare. I like to hit studs and trusses but its going to be impossible in this house as the walls and ceilings r painted.
Hey Richard, great videos buddy! I was wondering if there are any videos in the works for what you use as far as caulking and how you apply it? Also, how you paint the crown after installation? Keep up that great work! Dave Williams
+David Williams Thanks man! Yeah I do have one video that shows some caulking and tape things, but nothing that is detailed to just caulking. I will make something about that soon, as well as the painting.
Hey buddy, great videos! Very helpful! I noticed that you keep a gap in between the wall and the ceiling trim and gap between the wall trim and the ceiling before the crown is installed. Would that be a 1 inch gap?
+eusouocara23 Thanks. No, we just assume the 90's are 90's and 45's are 45's. Then we make minor adjustments from there. I usually only use angle finders when working with stairs.
I love your videos, but on this particular one you didn't do very much explaining, can you do it again and give us more info on how to install a three piece build up.?
Did either of you bother to check the date on this? This is one of the oldest videos he did. He’s come a long way in skill, equipment, and of course video editing.
Nice job Richard and I love the music
Starting from first upload. Great content and information
Man he was rough on a miter saw back then.. Definitely see the difference in his old and new videos..
I can play your videos at double speed and still understand you perfectly.
That's how it started.
Now l am addicted.
It’s amazing how much your videos have improved since then!

I want to try that sometime, the painting work finished it really well. That's a good job

Awesome -- as always!
Looks clean
Real awesome video ! About to start a little molding project myself, so I’ll be binge watching all your vids ahaha 👍
How do you determine length when using a 3 piece return. Do you glue up the the return and keep the working piece long then cut to length?
In essence, make the return, then work backwards
Hello Richard,
