Hi Jonathan: Distal phalanx, middle phalanx and proximal phalanx(distal to proximal). Joints are DIP or distal interphalangeal joint, PIP or proximal interphalangeal joint and MCP or metacarpal joint. Your knuckles are MCP joints. The thumb should form a C-shape. Hey Jonathan, thank you for this video, very helpful to get down to the bone level for understanding! I had a question though - in this I saw that your ring finger was over the pearl and not your pinky. My instructor wants me to have my pinky on the pearl, but with my large hands, I've been finding it difficult to maintain stability and keep my second knuckles on the bow as well. Do you play with your pinky below the pearl as shown in the video? Thank you again!

Yes, absolutely I play with the 3rd finger on the pastille (pearl) because my anatomy works that way. I spread my fingers more and if you find a more comfort in a relaxed hand, then do what is best for you

Distal Phalanges I think are the fingertips. The next bone is the intermediate phalanges But I could be very wrong. Is it normal for the leather binding on the bow to cause a pressure sore on the thumb ? My grip is light, to the point it always feels like the bow is going to drop from my hand, but boy does my thumb get sore on the side where it rests slightly on the leather.

The thumb should rest "half on the talon (frog) and half on the housse/baguette", which I call the nook.

@CelloCoach Ahhhh !!! Thank you !!! That is a lot better !! Massive thanks. My thumb was starting to go numb. I thought it was because I've got chubby fingers lol....well that probably doesn't help. I had to cut a bit of the leather off too. As always you're an absolute star.
