  • This show Talk with Tyson all about getting you a wide range of knowledge to which you may able to fill in the gaps. We want our viewers to think for themselves, interpret reasonable, discus or even debate and draw conclusions with a common consensus. We believe that all our viewers are literate and educated. Educated enough to think for themselves and not be brain washed even by what they may hear on our channel. We always remain open to what the other has to say.
This show tries to attempt to answer Subhash Bhaskar Velingkar and Shefali Vaidya. We have tried revisiting the facts they have taken and checking it and reading it for ourselves. What you find for yourself can at times surprise you. We do not deny a bad past of the Portuguese rule in Goa but what alarms us today is some have chosen to dig in the past out of the blue and create an unrest among the Catholics, Hindus and Muslims.
We respect the sentiments of all religion and do not desire to cause hatred among religion.
We have tried to have a dialogue rather than a monologue.
Anyone interested in having us interview you for a relevant and current affairs related topic that has not been touched upon kindly email me on:

It's because of them I do not have to worship or believe in made up Gods who are animated characters. We do not have to succumb to the Brahmin system of Slavery. Thousands of Goud Saraswat and Saraswat brahmins fled from Goa during the Portuguese rule and settled in different place of costal Karnataka and Kerala. To say that they fled simply because of rumours about forced conversion and brutality by the colonialists seems too simplistic. People rooted to a place for several centuries don't flee so easily due to rumours leaving behind everything they built. What could be the reason they fled if not for forced conversions, confiscation of property and some cruel measures that may have been taken by the local Portuguese Govt? Wish you would have covered this point as well. Will surely study your research paper.

    • @neollalobo
      @neollalobo Před rokem +8

EVERYTHING WAS GOOD AND PEACEFUL UNTIL THE PORTUGUESE CAME.
My response: well everything was good only for the high caste especially the brahmin. They exploited the lower caste and lived luxurious lives. Christianity became a challenge to this dreadful system when many lower caste became Christians and challenged the system. So also there were practices existing in India which were dangerous for human life which were reformed by the Buddhists, Mughals, Portuguese, British and other movements within Hinduism.
FRANCIS XAVIER WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INQUISITION.
Well I have dedicated a whole section in this article to explain how he is not responsible for the inquisition and even if he mentioned about it nobody knows where he meant it and what version of Inquisition he desired.
THERE WERE FORCED CONVERSIONS, OR CONVERSIONS OUT OF ALLUREMENT OR BRIBE AND NOT OUT OF CONVICTION.
This is a pure radical hatred to Christianity and the missionaries. As I have mentioned that the Miracles done by St. Francis Xavier and many still experience the power of his intercession was also a great factor. After his incorrupt body was brought in Goa it was the key point of astonishment and wonder which contributed to the choosing of the faith. So also the edict of the king of Portugal in 1567 and the records given by the then historians are proof that forced conversion was not always a regular event.
THE HINDUS WERE FALLING BACK TOT HEIR OLD PRACTICES OUT OF LOVE FOR IT SINCE THEY STILL LOVED IT.

This is silly. As it is proven Hinduism is not one particular religion and it has its many faces. In Goa people were used to some superstitious practices and even black magic, animal offerings and even child offerings. These were the major reasons which Portuguese did not separate from Vedic or Brahminical Hinduism.[62] Such practices are still prevalent in Goa.[63]
INQUISITION WAS A FORM OF CHRISTIAN RADICALISM
Certainly not! As we have seen the church and the state were one and the same. when we say state that means church played a important role in the political area as well and it influenced political administrations. Therefore, in those circumstances, the inquisition was a part of the law of state and religion was an integral part of the state. As we have also seen how there were strict conditions on the use of torture it solely depended on how the inquisitors carried out the executions. However, it has been made clear that the history of the inquisition is manipulated and tampered with by the Protestant viewpoint and documentations of history show a different viewpoint and lives many questions unanswered.
      CHRISTIANITY DESTROYING CULTURE.
Not at all. I have already given the statement for that in the above topic of inculturation. Infact I would like to remind that the very first freedom movements were started by Catholics and in fact by Catholic Priests the protest against Christian in equality by Fr. Mathew Castro, The famous Pinto Revolt in 1787 by three Catholic Priests, who can forget Dr. Francisco Luis Gomes who was a Goan Parlaimentarian who demanded freedom of India from British and the Portuguese, then Dr. T B Cunha who was the one who suggested the Goa should be part of the Republic of India. Also cannot forget Dr. Jacque Sequeira who fought for independent state of Goa when the Maharashtra Gomantak Party along with Janata Party wanted to merge Goa with Maharashtra.
      ONLY HINDUISM BELONGS TO INDIA.
This is a total radical idea. Hinduism alone has not influenced the Indian society and its reforms. Much of it has been also a contribution from other religions and philosophies. Hinduism alone is no the only religion that originated in India nor it has its original roots on Indian soil though it is the majority contributor yet drastic major changes have been brought by others. Hinduism itself has spread beyond the boundaries of India. No religion belongs to one place of region. If we look at every religion it has a universal message to the all the people and therefore missionary in some way. Mirabai spread her devotion to Krisna. Guru Nanak spoke about his God experience to others. Buddha preached about the Nirvana to others. Mahavira spoke about the Moksa to others. All these religions and spiritualities have spread all over by way of preaching to others. Swamy Vivekanand also is a great example of this practice of preaching and many of the Gurus and Baba even to this day. Therefore, blaming Islam and Christianity alone for its preaching and missionary work is cruel and unjust.
THE POPE SHOULD APOLOGISE TO PEOPLE OF GOA AND INDIA.
In they year 2000 itself Pope John Paul II apologised for the Inquisition announcing the day of Pardon and penance for the Church. He changed the whole viewpoint of the Church and also the people changed their mind and attitude towards the Church. Pope Benedict XVI and also Pope Francis also have apologised time and again for the crimes done by Church leaders and inquisition itself.[64] However, the People of Goa have never made such demand from the Church and have forgotten the past. The Hindus and Christians in Goa live peacefully to the extent that many Hindus revere and pray to Christian saints, have great devotion to St. Francis Xavier, to Mother Mary and Jesus himself. They honour the Catholic Priests and nuns and live in harmony. Therefore if the people of Goa themselves don’t demand something like this why should and outsider and a person never having lived in Goa properly insight it. The picture of Goa is different then that of the other parts of India.

I doubt this history because there are lots of mistakes.
Sonda King gifted his regions in 1726?
Firstly the regions of Pernem, Bicholim and Sattari were under control of the Kingdom of Sawantwadi till 1783.
The region Ponda (Antruz), Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona were controlled by the Sonda Dynasty from Sadashivgad Fort Karwar and was vassal of the Maratha Confederacy from 1674.
Kingdom of Sawantwadi ceded Pernem, Bicholim and Sattari in return for help against Kolhapur. Now this is not a gifted lands. But Portuguese captured by taking advantage of someone's weakness.
Now talking about Sonda, it's not in 1726.
When Marathas were at war with Hyder Ali at Savanur in 1764, there were high chances that Ponda, Sanguem, Quepem, Canacona and Karwar could fall in the hands of Hyder Ali on the counter, as Marathas had already one front open the desperate Sonda King fearing the defeat fled to Portuguese territory and controlled this region from Ponda under Portuguese in return of stipend and protection till 1791 until "Ponda was TAKEN from the King of Sonda" by the Portuguese. Now again it was not gifted but it was made look like it was gifted.

    • @cg8397
      @cg8397 Před rokem +2

Pretty much. Shefali Vaidya is a Hindu Brahmin with serious psychological issues, because the Hindu Brahmins lost money and prestige in Goa after the overwhelming majority of Goans became Christian. The Christian Goans are also generally more educated and prosperous than the Hindus, leading to envy and resentment. Hence these repeated attempts to humiliate and demoralize them by various Hindus. Vaidya's main source of information is a 20th century polemic by a Brahmin named Anant Priolkar, and his sources weren't the auto-da-fe records kept by the Inquisition tribunal or any Portuguese government records. Even his narrative of the 1510 conquest of Goa in his book was complete nonsense. (The English translation of Afonso de Albuquerque's "Commentaries" has been available since the 1800s, but Priolkar never used it. Priolkar also claimed to be fluent in Portuguese, but he didn't use the Portuguese language sources either.) An investigation into the records kept by the Portuguese in Lisbon has been carried out in recent years by a Mangalorean Christian of Brahmin origin named Alan Machado (he was curious to know about the story of his ancestors in Goa and if they were victims of the Inquisition), and he recently released a book using the Inquisition documentation showing that most of what has been taught in India about the Christianization of Goa is not true.

People can make up any nonsense about family histories without evidence. A good example is Dayanand Bandodkar. His parents came to Goa from Maharashtra, nobody knows their real surname but they called themselves "Bandodkar" after arriving in Goa to give the false impression that they are originally from Bandora, and gullible Goans believed them. It was only after Bandodkar became CM that the harsh truth was revealed, his family were Marathi kalavants with zero links to Goa (their family goddess is Bhavani of Tuljapur).
Same with Zantye cashew factory, the family claims on the website that they are natives of Bicholim and built their factory from nothing. But if you examine the historical records then you find that Harish Zantye was a Marathi born in Malvan during the 1930s, came to Goa in the 1950s to work as cheap manual labour in the cashew factory that had been built and was run by White Europeans, and he grabbed the factory using Marathi goondagiri in the 1960s. (Bandodkar and his MGP government helped a lot of Marathi migrants steal lands and businesses in Goa after they came to power.)
Best of all is the Mangeshkar family describing themselves as "Maharashtrian Brahmins" (they're from Gomantak Maratha Samaj a.k.a. kalavant community of Mangeshi village in Ponda). Lata Mangeshkar's biographer Harish Bhimani even wrote that Lata's paternal grandmother Yesubai was her paternal grandfather Ganesh Bhatt's wife. (Harsh truth is that Ganesh Bhatt was already married to a Brahmin lady, Yesubai was his kalavant mistress, so Deenanath Mangeshkar didn't inherit his father's caste and surname.) So when Lata asked permission to perform rituals in Mangueshi temple, the Brahmin temple management refused citing "caste concerns".

The Church had 5 Patriarchs before Constantan becoming Christian the Church was controlled by an Oligarky of five Patriarchs, Constantinople (todays Estanbul,) Jerusalem Antioch, Alexandra and Rome. Constantan wanted to make his man the Patriarch of Rome (pope) top man so we had the great Schism,

The infamous Francis Xaviers and Martin Alfonso were sent to Goa by King John III of Portugal in 1542 to initiate the process of converting Goan residents to Roman Catholicism. On their arrival in Goa, they were enraged by the New Christians of Goa secretly practising their previous religions (either Judaism, Hinduism or Islam), while also upholding their Hindu values and traditions.
Hindus were forbidden from holding any public office, inheriting their father’s property and testify as witnesses in courts. If a Hindu child was deemed to be an orphan by the colonialists, the child was ‘seized’ by the Society of Jesus (founded by the not-so-saintly Francis Xavier) and made to change his religion. Clear discrimination was seen in social life, where Hindus were forced to sign public documents only after Christians and couldn’t be clerks in village offices.
In 1567, a law banning Christians from employing Hindus in the colony was introduced. (Ref: Teotonio R. De Souza, The Portuguese in Goa, pg 28-29). The inquisition office even questioned natives who were suspected of following their previous religions in private. Over a span of 214 years (1560-1774), 16,172 natives were questioned and often tortured for following a religion other than Roman Catholicism.
To be questioned by the inquisition office, a mere rumour of practising idol worship in private or chanting a Hebrew prayer would suffice for the missionaries to drag the native to the office.
Hindu children were sometimes taken away from their parents and burnt in front of them, with the parent being tied and forced to witness his child being burnt alive until he accepts to convert to Christianity. Over 4,000 non-Christians were inflicted with such punishments during the course of the inquisition
In inspiration of the Muslim invaders, the missionaries imposed the Xenddi tax on the Hindu population, similar to the Jaziya tax. (Ref: Sarasvati’s Children: A History of the Mangalorean Christians, Alan Machado Prabhu, I.J.A. Publications, 1999, pg. 121)

The request for an inquisition was intended only for Muslims who prevented religious worship and kidnapped peoples under Portuguese rule. With the inquisition, the government of Portugal only wanted peace, tranquility and freedom for the peoples of the territories under its domain, in order to freely exercise their religions. Its objective was not directed against pagans or Hindus, because the latter did not harm Christians. Even because Afonso de Albuquerque encouraged the marriage of Portuguese with Hindus without regard to religion, which continued until December 1961. It should be noted that Muslims in goa who did not interfere with hindus and christians because of religion were not hit by the inquisition.

Portuguese people are ignorant about the Portuguese Inquisition and its various tribunals because of the Leftist takeover of Portugal's government, media and academia. You also need to read the "Comentarios" of Afonso de Albuquerque, or even "Conquistadores" by Roger Crowley. Hindu women converted to Catholicism before their marriage and the children were raised as Catholics. Also, read the recent book by Alan Machado Prabhu where he investigates the Inquisition records. The original targets were the Jews and Muslims who moved from Portugal to Goa while falsely claiming that they were Catholics. This was regarded as a security threat due to the reputation of Jews and Muslims in the Iberian peninsula collaborating to overthrow Christian rulers.

I am so relieved after seeing this video, Praise God! I was extremely troubled when I watched Shefali Vaidya’s accounts on the Goa Inquisition. And I was told by my father our ancestors were Hindus, many years before he passed away. But didn’t know how it was relevant to me cause was too young to understand, but good that we are becoming aware of our past and getting the necessary clarity of our very existence. We are not glorifying the Portuguese here, but the atrocities or restrictions as claimed by Shefali that were carried out by the Portuguese king’s presentative were borne by our Ancestors and not hers. Our Ancestors should be thanked for the choices they made and not berated, they deserve respect. They did what was best! Hope Mam Shefali and those who hold such views on our community like her have or will watch this video and make peace with the truth. We are at peace they need to accept this. Praise God once again, all glory is his❤

Very well said Savitri. Yes. We need not worry about the inquisition anymore as it is all sorted. No amount of research done can really bring the so called "truth" what she thinks to be true. Anyways, we rest our case only to the experts and that is the Historians. Watch our next episode and that is with Dale Menezes - The Historian's craft. Later watch the interview with Ms. Amita Kanekar.

I would love to read this book if there is an accurate translation of it in English but have read the synopsis and the author mentions the role of the Inquisition by SFX which has been elaborately discussed in this video through discussions of his own letter. Second, through the synopsis, it mentions how Hindus were forcefully converted to Christianity which in recent years in academia we know wasn't entirely the case, forced conversions did play a huge role but many also converted for benefits, better social status, and with the lower caste they converted entirely as a village once the villager leaders converted, so to say everyone converted forcefully is totally false. If that were the case Goan Catholics who moved to Mangalore during the period of the Inquisition would have renounced their former religion in the mass and reverted back to their native religion. Second at the end of the inquisition in Goa itself Goan Catholics would have started to convert back if it had been forceful, this is what Anant Priolkar heavily mentions in his book which is a very simplistic view of the events if one has to critically analyze it and going by Charles Dellon's own account in Priolkar's book he mentions that the inquisition was never ever for them. I would suggest you read the book Conversions and Citizenry by Delio Mendonca wherein he studies the anthropology of the time and its primary sources to talk about this topic and I'm not aware of anyone who has been able to critically debunk his work from the sources.
