When those people say 20 minute drive is too far remember… in whole Russia just 3 pro figure skating shops and each of them placed in big cities and we have to drive 3h there and another 3h back to get fitted
There also no any skating rink near the shops

a little over a month ago, i got a pair of new skates because i’d gotten interested in figure skating again (i took classes a few years back but nothing past beginner) and i bought roces paradise ice skates. they feel comfortable and the rink closest to my house provides blade sharpening, so that isn’t a problem. i’m worried that over time, maybe because the skates weren’t as expensive as ‘professional’ skates, they might not provide ankle support and that might lead to damage/ an injury. unfortunately, there aren’t any figure skating stores near me as i bought my skates abroad and because i don’t live in the us. i feel conflicted, because i dont want to sustain any injuries that could be caused by the wrong shoe, but i don’t want to keep making my parents spend money, i need advice
I had never even heard of those before! I did a Google search, and they look similar to American Athletic or Lake Placid skates, which are not the best quality. If your parents can afford to upgrade you to Jackson Ultima that would be a better choice.

I have always been a fan of Jacksons but unfortunately have found the moulds of the Jacksons have changed. I have 2 pairs but they are very different because originally I wanted to try on and purchase the exact same pair of Jacksons but found that they were completely different as they were no longer produced in Europe but Canada and now probably made in China. I love my thicker English Sheffield blades leather heel skates rather then the plastic or synthetic heel skates. I don't like thin blades and the size and shape of the toe pick is really important to me. I use soakers but still use skate guards to walk around off rink in as I don't want to kill myself off ice especially on hard surfaces. I do find skate bags sometimes annoying as they are designed sometimes too big - so big they can fit a pair of ski boots in them! In Australia it is very difficult to get a good pair of ice skates so I get mine from Canada but you are right about hockey hockey hockey and less figure skates being sold in sport stores now. Yes first sharpening is included with purchase except if you buy them from Walmart for example. I would not purchase a pair of skates without them being sharpened as to get my skates sharpened in Australia I used to have to drive for kms to a private skate sharpener out in the suburbs just to get my skates sharpened or risk leaving them at the rink for a few days to get them sharpened. One thing that I was told about the difference between "recreational ice skates" and " "figure skates" is recreational ice skate have fixed rivets on the boot so you can't customize the attachment of the blade to the boot. I believe the toe picks on recreational skates are a little different in shape and size as well. This is expected as jumps and spins are not expected by skaters in recreational skates. One other thing I have found is travelling with my skates between Australia and Canada with extreme hot snd cold has caused my skates to deteriorate- mainly peeling and soles coming apart from the boot. Probably because I forget to air them out.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm unsure if Jackson has changed it last over the years, but it is possible to heat mold most Jackson boots for a customized fit. Most blades designed for figure skates are similar in thickness. However, there are some blades that are tapered or dove tailed where part of the blade is thinner for performance. There are many different profiles for blades so the rocker and toe pick will vary according to the profile used. Thank you for this video. My daughter has an appointment with Greg for her first fitting in two days. We're about 40 miles away, but everything closer was hockey-centered and I wasn't convinced that the rink's in-house shop, where she will receive her lessons, was the best option. I have the special Jackson insoles in a pair of Jackson Freestyle Fusion skates, and I LOVE the insoles and the skates. I'm an adult in low freestyle and the Freestyle Fusions work perfectly for me; also, I intend to study artistic figures in the future and I think they'll be good for that.
Anyway, the guy at the shop was a bit not happy when he saw that I'd changed the insoles, but I am happy. However there's another warning for your viewers: Freestyle Fusions come with the blades already on. They're good blades, but on my pair one was mounted at a weird angle, which led to several nasty falls before I realized I wasn't the entire problem. I had had to order online and didn't know to look at the way the blades were mounted. My advice, for what it's worth: if you order online, the next thing you should do is get to the nearest figure-skating specialty shop (mine's an hour away) and have them look at the skates before you use them. Sometimes you'll even find out you made a mistake in your choice, but that's okay. They'll have the answer.
I'm glad that you love your skates and that the insoles made a difference for you. I don't even wear Jackson skates but I love the Jackson Supreme insoles so much!
This is why I always recommend that skaters go to get fitted and avoid ordering online. Often when skaters order online, the size isn't right or the skate isn't quite right for them. Driving an hour for a fitting isn't that bad! You'll have to go there anyway for proper sharpening, right?!
Rather than bringing a pair that you purchased online to the skate shop after the fact, just go there, to begin with. Some techs won't even service skates that were not purchased from them!

Is so hard finding skates where I live. (all the schools of the city skates in the same rink -a recreational one so is very small -) so you can imagine how hard it is..
The best option is online but i don't want to do that. The other option is an Argentina brand call Mora, but i can't find opinions about the duration and resistance.. (but all the brands that are import are very expensive for the average Argentinian salary)
But anything is best than the plastic rental ones. I actually broke my nail doing a toe loop with those. 😭

Unfortunately we don’t have good skate shops in Sweden.. and as and adult skater I was new to the figureskating and I got to a skate shop close to where I live and I lost a lot of money on that’s because I bought wrong brand and wrong width and they sharpened actually wrong as well.. so I ordered a custom Riedell boots and they have served me well in more than five years of skating, competitive and the first boots was too light support and I got too light blade, it was the worst blade ever!! So I bought custom made boots, that was amazing!! Now I ordered new custom made boots from Belati in Italy, and can’t wait to go on the ice with them!! And I have blades for triples and quads but they actually fit me and my skating.

Hello, I'm planning to upgrade from Jackson Artiste to Jackson freestyles. I'm at isiasia Freestyle 1 now and was wondering if the support in Jackson freestyles would be enough to last me through around freestyle 3 or 4 . Any opinions?
According to Jackson’s Fit Guide the Freestyle should take a skater that weighs more than 80 pounds from their waltz jump through their Axel. The Elle is suggested for skaters more than 80 pounds through their Flip jump. It’s best to have a conversation with your coach and professional tech before you decide to make changes to your equipment.
Hi Aimee! I’ve recently learned that my last 2 pairs of skates have broken down within 5 months but my mom never agreed that I need a stiffer boot, she has finally agreed but will not let me get new boots but she says I have to wait but at this point the skates I have are a hazard to skate in. I’m wondering which boot I should use. I’m currently in the Edea overture and working on axel and novice moves pending test results, I’m 13 and 111 lbs and 5’ 0” tall. My last 2 pair of overture have broken down on only my right skate and the Part where the ankle meets the foot but only in the right skate my left is completely fine, idk if this is normal or if I’m not tying then tight enough. They won’t tie any tighter so I don’t think that’s the issue, I’m just wondering, is it me, or do I need stiffer skates?
If your Edea boot has creased, it's done. Edea's are not meant to crease on the sides at all as all the support is lateral! If your skates are breaking down in 5 months you are either in too large of a size or a boot that is not supportive enough for you and your skating. Were you fitted by a professional tech? Have you discussed your options with your coach? For someone of your age, size, and level, I typically would suggest Edea Concerto as the minimum level. However, it could be that your mom simply just doesn't have new skates in the budget right now. I suggest having a conversation with your coach and asking your coach to speak with your mom about what is best for you.

Hello,I bought a second hand Jackson mystique. It fits my feet well, but there are slight scratches on the ankle part of the skate. This is in my mind, "I wonder if the ankles of these skates are broken?" I started to think. How can we find out that a skate has a problem in the ankle part?
When you purchase used skates you have no way to know how the skate was cared for. For this reason, I suggest that skaters purchase new skates after being fitted by a professional skate tech.
Oh wow that’s so interesting, I’m a 15 year old and I started my basic training for ice skating(I fell on my butt 5 times) it’s my second time at my rank. I actually was asking my mom if I should buy skates, because I’ve haven’t been doing research that rental skates are bad. In your personal opinion should I buy skates even thought my foot is still growing? And I’m kinda intimidated after watching this video. I have been using rental skates and the people who were teaching always talking about how they don’t like the rental skates provided, so I’m just curious in terms of rental skates are they ok for the beginning when I’m just trying to learn how to skate. Cause I do want to figure skate, but the closest rink is 30 min away and I don’t really skate everyday, just 1 hour every week.

Hi Amiée!, I’m currently planing to upgrade from Jackson to Eden skates, Although I’m quite worry about fitting in and how long it would take for me to be used to the edea skates. I’m 14 years old, free style 1. I’ve been using Jackson beginner skates for 1 year now and it’s overused. I’m planning to buy ice fly in the future, can I have any recommendations if I should buy one or are the shoes too advanced for me? Thank you :)
While Ice Fly is not too advanced, as you cannot really overboot in Edea, you necessarily need to spend that much! Depending on your skating style/height/weight/etc... Overture, Chorus, or Concerto may be suitable for you. Talk to your coach and skate tech and follow their guidance. In my experience, it doesn't take long to adjust to Edea, when they are properly fitted.
Hey! I just got the Jackson Mystique and they fit great but I get this pain only in my right boot to the right of the ball of my foot. I had previously had a pair of Rydell skates and had the same problem. Should I bring these back and see if it is something a molding could fix?
Were you professionally fitted? Did you have them heat molded? If so, make an appointment with the tech for an adjustment.

Hi Aimee. I want to know if Edea or Risport has width boots. My brand should be Jackson, but I can't find on my area. I am from South America, and I need to go to Argentina to buy new skates. They don't have Jackson boots. So the only choice to find Jackson is buying online, and you don't reccomend buy boots on internet.
So, what are your tips for wide feet and buying boots which are not on the rigth width? I suffer a lot from my arches, even I had Risport RF3 and I couldn't handle it and I had to sell it.

The reasons that I caution against buying online is that it's best to be fitted to ensure the correct size and most boots need to be heat molded - you cannot do that at home - you need a special oven to have Jackson skates heat molded. Edea offers Stock boots in C standard, B narrow, D wide, and E extra wide. Edea's fit is focused on getting the correct size so make sure that you are fitted by a tech that can make adjustment for you as the boot can be custom shaped using a high powered hair dryer by a skill tech. Risport boots have a tapered toe box, a medium instep, and a medium-width heel. Stock boots are available in B and C widths. I have a video dedicated to boots coming very soon! I asked my Learn to Skate director but he just directed me to an online jackson website. What should I do? I also want to be able to use my first pair of skates to at least start learning jumps but good enough for the basics 1-6 and a beginner...

It depends on so many things! Soft skates can be a good option for young beginners. But it’s best to get fitted.

hello Aimee! I have a question so today I tried my sister’s skates but it felt so weird I felt that the blade in my foot is that normal? And I was thinking about getting those skates with a higher blade is that good for beginners?

@@xx9goofyxs_028 Please don't wear skates that were not properly fitted for you. Ice skates need to fit snuggly to offer the support required. If you wear skates that are too large, you will not be able to learn how to skate correctly. There are many different brands and models of skates that are rated for all different levels and shapes, and sizes. It's best to get fitted by a reputable skate tech that can offer you suggestions about which skate is appropriate for your height, weight, body composition, foot size, and foot shape.
When you say air out, do I take off the soakers too or leave the soakers on indoors?
Take them out of your bag. Open up the throat of the boot, but leave the soakers on.- unless, of course they are wet! If the soakers are wet dry them out and put them back on your skates.
Can you review classique Jackson ice skates?it’s okay to learn basics I’m14 can I jump on them without break them like waltz jump and loop?I’m confused.
Jackson Classique provides moderate support (Jackson Stiffness Rating of 45). Jackson says they are for the basic instructional skater. However, they are not listed in Jackson’s current catalogue and appear to be out of stock with online retailers so I’m unsure if they are still in production. You should discuss your choice of skates with your coach and professional skate tech as they can best advise you and be sure you are properly fitted and your skates are appropriate for you.

Just yesterday I asked my pro shop, if they have the Jackson Supreme insoles (as they have some Jackson skates), but they are not available in Europe! They are US only. You can only get them if you know a private seller with US contacts, add then shipping cost and customs duty. It's just not worth it. We only have Edea insoles, but they don't help with pronation, only with shock-absorption. The options are a) to ignore the issue and just compensate or b) get the boot to an orthopedic technician for custom insoles (and I don't know how much they know about the skating motion).
You could try contacting a shop in the US and asking them to ship them to you. I know that some people have done that!

hii, okay so i’ve been skating since june 2018, i’ve gone thru 2 skates already and on my 3rd jackson mystique. i started when i was 10, and now i’m 16 in january. i’m 163 cm and 52-54 kg (have to check), size 8 feet. i have very very weird feet tho.. they’re narrow. when i’m skating for a few hours, (mainly doing crossovers), the balls of my feet always hurt. and it’s been the same with every single pair of mystiques i’ve had. im in aussie skate free skate 1, almost free skate 2. even with my school shoes (school uniform shoes) i’ve had the same problems with walking, my feet get so sore when walking for a few hours too. a few weeks ago when i was going over my waltz jump with my coach, i noticed that my heel kept slipping up into my boot when i jumped. my foot was jumping up, but not with my skate. so im not going high enough in the skates but i am when im off the ice. she suggested thicker socks, (my coach, which i’ve been doing) and i feel like my toes get scrunched in the socks. it feels like i cant let them breathe, and the balls of my foot hurt 10x more. i bought these new jackson mystiques only a few months ago like march or something, and already there’s 2 creases on the tongue. when i got the skates, nobody came over to us to help us try them on, we just bought them..? i told my dad earlier today that i might need new skates and he told me “but we only got those a few months ago?” i hate asking for things bc it’s expensive.. i told him something about edea overtures, and he gasped at the price. anyways, i still need help and i’m not quite sure on what to do. after i skate my feet r in excruciating pain for 2-4 hrs afterwards, then it goes.
Definitely not thicker socks! If your skates are not performing appropriately in thin skating socks or bare feet, something is wrong. Wearing a thicker sock will not help, as it creates a barrier between you and the boot. With the body composition that you described, Jackson Mystiques should have taken you through your basic skating skills. Once you get to the Free Skate levels and you are jumping, you need a more supportive boot. If you stay with Jackson, that would be the Elle or Freestyle. You need to go to a shop that does fittings with a skate technician. It doesn't sound like you did that. A qualified tech can measure your feet because your street shoe size is NOT the same as your skate size. Also, a tech will make specific recommendations for you, heat mold the boot, and do some custom shaping to help with issues such as heel slipping. I would normally say to ask your coach where to go, but I don't like that your coach advised you to wear thicker socks, so I would recommend talking with the skating director at your rink about your options for a proper fitting. Additionally, if you have foot problems in general, I suggest that you see a podiatrist or orthopedist who specializes in feet.

Hey! I'm planning on getting the Edea Overtures and I've been to a shop already. They measured my feet and appearently I got size 240 or at max 245. I didn't buy the skates in that store yet tho since the blades I wanted with them were sold out. Now I found the Overture + Rotation set in another shop, but online. On the website it says, that Overtures usually are smaller? Now, I do have size 240, but since it appearently isn't true to size, I'd need size 245? Unfortunately sizes 245 and 250 are sold out. Should I just go with the 240?
Edea sizes are standardized across the brand. Different models are not sized differently. If you were measured by an Edea Authorized Dealer, you should go with their recommendation for size and purchase from them. Edea boots should be custom shaped so that you get the correct fit. That cannot be done if you purchase online. Many Edea dealers will not service your skates if you purchased them elsewhere. Those that do, may charge a premium. It's best to purchase from the dealer that sized you! They should also be able to order your blades or provide you with something comparable.

Unfortunately, there are no Authorized Edea dealers in my entire country, but it is surrounded by quite a few neighboring countries with dealers, so I might have to go for a little trip I guess😵💫

The custom shaping is usually included when you purchase in person from an authorized dealer. Where did you get measured originally? Can't you purchase there?
@ I just got measured at a regular figure skate shop, wirhout an authorized Edea dealer. Unfortunately they don't have my size anymore and it's gonna take a few months until they're back :')
If they sell Edea, they should be an authorized Edea dealer. Edea won't allow just any shop to carry their products!

I suggest that you talk to your coach, group lesson instructor, or the rink skating director and ask where the best place to go for a fitting. They may also have suggestions about brands and models. A good tech at a reputable shop will better be able to assist you based on your age, body composition and foot shape. That the best starting point!

@@vincentlee2221 the shop at pyramid ice in Malaysia told me they do professional fittings, I haven’t personally been yet but I plan to when I return to KL. They stock risports Jackson and Edea (and Bauer hockey boots).

I have so much trouble with my new skates. They are the Scott Hamiltons though it doesn not fit my wide feet (EE) so I got them heat molded and stretched. I asked onljne and someone told me they were for recreational beginner skating and for children, not for an adult in skating lessons like me. I am very confused cause other videos on youtube praise them and my fitter gave me these. I really don't want to waste my money but it feels like I have to buy new skates. All the fitters I talked to apparently just keep recommending me recreational skates (at least that is what people on reddit tell me) and I should not listen to them. I am very confused.
The Risport Scott Hamilton model is meant for beginners. I have had several skaters under the age of 10 wear them for a season and then upgrade to another skate more appropriate for the level they progressed to. I would not suggest this model for adult skaters. Was your fitter recommended to you by your coach? It sounds like they may not be well-versed in adult skating. Single. Double runners are not recommended for instruction. Most coaches and group lessons do not permit them.

@ because of growing feet new skates will be needed to be bought more often and that Is expensive. It’s been just about a week and it’s getting there I can feel them getting less stif

Hello Aimee I hope you're doing well. I have a situation that I would love you or anyone to help me out with... You see I'm from a country where there are no rinks and we don't have the weather to have our own natural ones. The only rinks that we have are some small ones at christmas festivals that are packed with people and only last one month at a year. So as you could imagine we don't have pro skating shops here. There's only one shop in the whole country that has very few figure skates. For fear of them selling out I bought a pair of cheap skates that seem like they don't have patting on the sides and surprise! They are too big. I can't change them because the size that I have is the smallest the have in the shop and they don't sell any other brand or model. Now I'm starting preparations to move to another country so I can skate year around.
Here's the real question: What do you recommend me to do? Should I travel with the skates, probably pay the extra cost of "special baggage" in the plane, maybe have trouble going into security in the airport... get there and skate with a couple of thick socks even if they could cause me blisters? Or try to sell them here before leaving, get my money back and then buy skates when I get to the country I'm moving to? I know the answer may seem obvious but just have in mind that even if the skates are almost new, trying to sell them in a country where no one skates is really hard and I adore those skates. They are the first personal skates that I've ever had and bought with my own money... Just makes me so sad. + At this point I have to learn how to skate all over again so these skates would be just to start out, then I would buy another pair.

If I were in your position, I would leave the skates behind and purchase new, properly fitted, and higher quality skates when I got to my new home. Unless they were expensive, I would just donate them and not try to sell them.
As someone who's first skates were too big (And I didn't even notice), you will need to relearn where your rocker is if you decide to keep the skates you got. It's tempting to keep them since you paid money for them but they will likely hurt you in the long run. They could probably carry you through super basic skills anyone should know but once you start learning how to do any jumps/hops/ spins, you will struggle with new boots. The boots you have now might physically hurt you since your heel will not be snug in the back and the balls of your feet will be pinched by where the arch is in the boots. This is what made one of my bunions worse :( Not trying to scare you but trying to stop you from making the same mistake as me. I'd get whatever money I can get for them if I were you.
Fug K, I have the same problem. The only rink here stays for two months. And nobody does figure skating here, they do for fun with rental skates. It's very difficult to find the perfect pair of skates, when you don't have assesment and few brands to choice.

Edea, Aura, and Reidell Vega and Elara are made from non- animal material. But, as far as I’m aware there are not any “certified Vegan” skates. The best thing to do is to look for skates made with synthetic materials.

Edea has options for beginning skaters. The Tempo, Wave, and Movito are appropriate for beginners. Jackson and Riedell also offer beginning skates made from synthetic materials. You just have to check the to see what they are made out of.

Go see Mr. Edge at Geppetto’s Skate Shop in Downer’s Grove, IL. It’s a bit ‘old school’ but he will fit you, order what you need and properly adjust the skate and blade alignment for you at the rink. He recently fitted me and special ordered one skate in a size that doesn’t exist per standard sizes, but it’s exactly what I needed. Ask for John.

It's so hard to find wide skates for size 2 feet.
Talk to your tech and see if they can order something for you. Edea skates come in equivalent to a 2 and can be custom shaped to wide width.
Any recommendations in Northern California? We went to an ice skating ring in silicon valley and they wanted $900 for a pair of woman skates! Geez!
The pricing should vary depending on brand and model. Without knowing the specific skates, I can't tell if that is overpriced. There are different price points at every level of skate. For example, my skates (Edea Concerto) with blades (John Wilson Gold Seal) retail for around $1,500 before tax. That said, beginner skate sets (boots and blade) generally start at below $200. What you need depends on your skill level, body composition, foot size, foot shape, preferences, and budget.

I haven’t heard of that issue. Here in the US we seem to be able to get most Risport.

Can someone actually " under boot" in skates?. I see alot of videos on Instagram of skaters that are the at the Same level thar I'm kinda at. They Have MUCH better skates. One girl is apparently self taught and wears jackson premieres. I skated at a kid wasn't high level, and wore risport lasers back. I am in Jackson freestyle now. I find them just okay. I don't know if I under booted, or I just think I'm better than what I am.
Yes, you can definitely under boot! But it all depends on your level, height, weight, foot shape and budget. That's why it's always best to get fitted!

The technology, craftsmanship, and most significantly, support is what affects the price. $99 skates are meant for seasonal recreational us. They’re not appropriate for instruction or competitive skating.
