Bal Anat Documentary 1970/1972

In 1972, John Carney finished his documentary on Jamila Salimpour and Bal Anat. The documentary includes footage from Jamila Salimpour teaching class, a Jamila interview from 1970, and Bal Anat performances at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire. You'll also see footage of a very young Suhaila!

I was a performer at Renaissance Pleasure Faire North to see these performances. I was in what later became court. That show was magnificent! I was but a teenager at the time, but I took classes fro Jamila in later years when she had her studio over the Casbah on Broadway. Then years later I took classes from John Compton who had also studied with Jamila. It was a style and a specific current of energy that was intoxicating. I will never forget it!
