    There is a worldwide epidemic of frumpiness for men and women. Baggy T-shirts, sneakers, tights, ill-fitting jeans, baseball caps, shapeless jackets. Mostly colourless and dull. Thank you Marie-Anne for explaining some great options!

      Truth! Back in the '90's, I had a friend when I was in Germany whose figure I never saw. When she visited me, we went to a spa, and I saw her figure for the first time. She had a figure like Sophia Loren, or Marilyn Monroe!!! I couldn't believe my eyes...I told her she oughta show it off, not hide it in baggy clothes!

      I have leather shoes that are in a sort of a sneaker style but due to the leather they look quite dressy. For warmer weather I swear by Merrell sandals. They have some dressier styles, again in leather, with good arch support and comfortable enough for walking long distances. I wear them with both dresses/skirts and ankle length pants.

    Wonderful styling tips to avoid looking frumpy, dear Marie-Anne. You're absolutely right and love the term 'de-frump'. The styling journey starts when we accept ourselves to dress better. It's also possible to be comfortably chic since being older and/or overweight is not an excuse to lack style as there are ladies I've seen who are larger and older wearing beautiful outfits gracefully. • @shirleygibbs7440
      @shirleygibbs7440 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @rrhines3151. You say comfort at work is not always the key ... but it could be! If your shoes aren't comfortable, I suggest going to a high end store like Nordstrom's, Macy's, or Neiman Marcus (or a comparable store in a city near you), where they actually MEASURE your feet, know their brands, and can fit you in a comfortable shoe that meets your needs ... heel height (maybe a flat), length, width in the toe box, etc. Many do not know, that with a wider ball of the foot, we can't CAN'T just wear the next size up in a Medium. I actually need a "W" on the end of the shoe box! Or, sometimes, an "M" if the trained professional shoe fitter knows his brands!
      Then, the rest of your work style. Find a saleswoman who really wants to help you build a work wardrobe, even if it's a little at a time. She may be more motivated if she knows you'll buy a few pieces, say 3 to start, and return to her the next time.
      When I changed from a setting where clients struggled to make ends meet, to my own professional private practice, this is how I upgraded my work wardrobe. It worked amazingly well, because she began to know me and what zi liked. She also worked with the pieces I already had. Sometimes, it's the small things that make a big difference! Best wishes & good luck! Shirley from Texas😊❤

    After watching this video. Marie-Anne it is quite easy really to change from frumpy to stylish, there are plenty of helpful tips for everyone, I see lots of ladies that are quite large and all they seem to wear are tight leggings and oversized T-Shirts which does nothing for them at all, I know they probably feel comfortable in this attire but if they were to try some of your tips I’m sure they would look and feel better. That's sad to say but the "frumpiness" is for the young people as well because they don't want to dress up. It's all about big sweaters, sweatshirt, sweatpants... It's hard to find nice outfits in stores for our young girls. I've been raised in a French environment, wearing classy, and nice clothing growing up. Living in the states, I'm trying to pass the same classy style to my kids but all they see as model on TV for their age, are people who don't dress up.... hmmm! Anyway, merci Marie-Anne! ♥

      You know, I would swear I have seen the frumpy "before" outfits on a young (late 20's I think; early 30's at the very most) British CZcams stylist. Tall and slim; the kind that looks good wearing a potato sack. 😉 They can get away with this... Me, older and "rounder"? No. So I need to make an effort...

    Marie- Anne, I am having fun with monochrome colors but different textures. It is below 32 degrees high for the day where i am in US. I wore a charcoal gray tweed fitted blazer and a same color gray turtleneck with an inherited red brooch flower on my lapel. It looked amazing on Zoom work calls. If helpful, I think Marie-Anne did a video on Vivia (may have spelled name incorrectly) shoes that are stylish and comfortable. With neuropathy in my feet 👣 I either need to tie or strap my feet in!! 🥴 Mary Janes are considered stylish as are loafers! Black riding boots too! 💕🍀

    • @edennis8578
      @edennis8578 Před 7 měsíci

      The Vivaia brand that Marie-Anne discussed have all different toe types. I think the issue is mainly to choose sleek, graceful styles rather than bulky styles, which make the feet look big and clunky.

    • @weebizzom1495
      @weebizzom1495 Před 7 měsíci +1

      I like almond toes, narrow enough to look sleek but wide enough to be comfortable. Or if I really want pointed toes, I buy shoes that are a size bigger and put a bit of cotton wool into the point, so it feels like I am wearing round toes but I still get the elegant look. 😊

    • @MarieAnneLecoeur
      @MarieAnneLecoeur  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Bonjour Verna - the pointed toe is a counsel of perfection - go for a shoe that is the least square that you can manage comfortably, go for a colour that blends with the trouser and you are practically there 😘

    The last combination with the pleated skirt, sweatshirt, and sneakers is an example of a trend that's been popular for a while now, which is juxtaposition, opposite dressing, or mixing dressy with casual, etc. I agree with you, though, that this particular example does look frumpy.
