- A new owner was finally announced for La Feria de Chapultepec in Mexico City in Thor Urbana Capital. Unfortunately, this announcement was paired with the news that the park's classic wooden roller coaster, Montaña Rusa, will be removed. This video will look into why this is happening and provide my review of the park's former star attraction.

I thought I read somewhere that local communities and enthusiasts groups were looking at ways to save the coaster, but it's so massive and probably in poor condition that it's likely an uphill battle. A shame the coaster that inspired Colossus will end this way.
Based on Thor's plans, I don't see how this coaster could be worked into the site sadly.
The last standing sidefriction that ElToroRyan channel covered was in worse condition and is alive and well.
Hey! I'm a mexican coaster enthusiast! I live in Mexico City and have known this park my entire life. It's cool to see it being reviewed here!
It is sad to see this coaster bite the dust, it is an absolute classic, it was the only roller coaster in Mexico for many years. My grandparents rode it, my parents did, everyone in the city knows it.
But yeah, it didn't age well, I never saw it racing, I don't know how long ago it stopped doing so, but it hasn't for at least 15 years.
The park wasn't great either, I remember going there since I was a kid, it was the best! But these last years it was really sad to see it being managed so poorly. I have high hopes for the future of the park, hopefully the new owners can bring it back to it's former glory and find a way to honor what it meant to the city for so many years.
And the lesson here is, you never know when your last ride on a roller coaster will be. I was sure, after the accident, that I least I would be able to ride Montaña Rusa again, but that won't happen, and surprisingly I will have the chance to ride Quimera again in a different park.
You really never know...
It's a shame the park deteriorated under the new owners and that's the only time I ever experienced this park. I too hope the new owners can improve this park.
Thank you for that. Last year I visited to go to La Féria and Six Flags Mexico, but in doing so I really loved your city.
@@CanobieCoaster They could have improved the park by keeping Montana Russa and doing some renovations. Apparently they have chosen not to do that. 😞
This news hurt me quite a bit when it came out a few days ago, I skipped La Féria in 2019 during my visit to Mexico City and it’s sad to hear that I’ll never be able to ride this wooden coaster and that such a classic and monumental attraction is biting the dust.
My mother and relatives had been able to ride this coaster well over 20 years ago and while my mother didn’t enjoy it very much she still found the ride to be an amazing piece of engineering and a marvel to look at. She considered the ride a landmark and was shocked to hear that it was being taken down.
I myself am disappointed in what the last owners of La Féria did with the park and Montana Rusa and it’s too bad a company like GCI won’t be given an opportunity to give this ride a much needed overhaul though the coaster was probably too large and potentially too damaged to do anything with.
I hope that the new park at least has a plaque or memorial for the ride, with maybe a piece of track or a train. Anything less would be quite disappointing.
Great video and review!
Thanks! While hindsight is 20-20, I still think you made the better decision visiting Six Flags Mexico over La Feria. There is a decent chance even if you went to La Feria, this ride (or the coaster coasters) would have been closed. It's sad this park was operated so poorly because it had a prime location.
I enjoyed this ride and had a very memorable experience on it. This news was very sad to me.
I was shocked this coaster wouldn't be part of the new park, but it does take up a ton of space.
Where could I find the site plans and could you make a video discussing the new attractions coming?
www.eleconomista.com.mx/politica/Autoridades-de-CDMX-presentan-a-Aztlan-el-proyecto-que-sustituira-a-la-Feria-de-Chapultepec-20201202-0066.html
Not much has been revealed outside of the developer and the blurry image you can find on the site.
Still, this would've been the perfect candidate for GCI's new Titan track.
It depends if it was the running rails or structure itself that was deteriorated. If it was the structure itself, that would be more than just a Titan track overhaul.
@@CanobieCoaster Thats why I think they aren't fixing it. Ive never seen it in person, but POVs from recent years and pics, you can tell its in rough shape. You'd have to bring in someone like GCI and have them litterally rebuild everything
@@CanobieCoaster Cant they just cheat and install a steel structure among the wood to make it solid? I like the steel support of Ravine Flyer II and I loved The Villain.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah thats why rolling thunder in gadv didn’t get rmc’d
It’s very heartbreaking to see a classic wooden roller coaster like this go! It’s. It not fair! Why why why do parks not appreciate what these icons are and what they represent? I never rode this coaster and for a long time I never knew it existed but when I finally learned that it was the main inspiration for Colossus, it held great significance for me. Thanks for posting this! I am sure in its infancy this roller coaster was a force to be reckoned with! But it’s a disgrace and a shame what parks do to their icons. There is absolutely no respect whatsoever for them!
The park as a whole was doomed by the Quimera accident.
@@CanobieCoaster by the looks of this park I doubt they had the money after that accident to continue. But I have a feeling they just didn’t have the money in general to give this beautiful beast of a coaster the proper maintenance it needed and deserved.
11:23 The crashed train is still there
Yes, I noticed that.
lol
lol
It’s cheaper than making it’s way till the end of track
Sad to see this go. The crazy moment of ejector airtime sounds so surprising, and that’s saying a lot to say it had a better ejector moment than an RMC 😂
I think the airtime was more striking since it was surrounded by tame moments.
LA FAIR-EE-AH CHA-PUHL-TEH-PEC
Thanks for letting me know!
Great video! Could you do a video on Indiana Beach possibly getting CASCABEL 2.0 in 2022?
I've seen this rumor, but has Indiana Beach said anything?
@@CanobieCoaster when Gene Staples was at the board getting approval for Quimera he mentioned a 112 foot structure to come in 2021 (Quimera) and then an unknown 140 foot structure to come in 2022 and 140 ft happens to be the same height as Cascabel. There’s a video of it somewhere I’m just not sure where
If I saw that video, I'd make a video on Cascabel. But right now I've just heard a rumor Cascabel and Quimera were a package deal.
Do you know anything about future rides planning to go to La Feria Chapultepec Magico? And what rides are staying?
Someone tweeted out a proposal for the site. I didn't have the rights to use that image, but it looked to have a family boomerang type ride as the "big" coaster.
As a cheaper addition, I'm curious if a clone of Jersey Devil might be able to fit into this footprint
The plans I saw looked to have an amphitheatre/park in this ride's place.
@@CanobieCoaster Oh how... exciting... NOT.
Considering every other coaster was saved this is very sad
Indeed.
Magic Mountain was inspired by this Rollercoaster when they built Colossus in 1978.
I can see the similarities.
great vid but the background drone meditation music is a little weird 😂
Thanks for the feedback. I thought the horror music fit the ride being removed, but maybe it didn't.
@@CanobieCoaster not really, it just sorta felt like background noise
@@CoasterHorizons Good to know. I won't use that one in the future.
@@CanobieCoaster I feel like subtle edm or something will fit nicely
Indiana Beach 2022?
As much as I'd like to see this coaster saved, I don't see it happening.
No, it’s being scrapped I believe
it makes sense why they would just demolish but it seemed like an underrated classic
It was decent, but with the amount of space the ride took up and the cost it would have been to fix it, I understand why the park is choosing to go a different route.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah
noooooo! I loved that ride!
It's unfortunate this ride is now defunct.
Big RIP
I never would have thought this would bite the dust before Quimera.
8:12 thats some serous wheel gap!
Not surprised!
8:19 you can literally see the front road wheel off the track if you look closely
Wow!
Imagine if it was converted into an RMC...that would be the worlds best coaster
It absolutely would have a lot of RMC potential.
This would’ve not been a good ride to get the RMC treatment at least IMO. Montana Rusa is such a historical ride and beyond that a landmark for Mexico, Mexico City, and Latin America, so if they did anything with it I would’ve wanted a refurb by GCI.
That being said if they actually allowed RMC to touch it, they could have done a lot with the layout. I’d have rather seen that then the ride completely biting the dust
@@CoasterHour I agree the layout would have been a good one but for historical reasons it would have been a bit bittersweet.
@@CoasterHour it’s better than getting scrapped. A GCI retracting would be cool too, but I think the hills would have to be reprofiled to improve pacing
RMC racers are legendary.
They should've saved Montaña Rusa from demolition
#SaveMontañaRusa
I wish that ride was saved too.
Dam what a shame. Now only 2 mobius loop coasters left.
There are a few odd steel ones like Master Thai, but there will only be classic wood ones.
Sad, but I can see why. In its final operating year the entire ride was in REALLY rough shape. Getting it back up to spec would probably be VERY VERY expensive.
I agree and it takes up a huge plot of land in an otherwise small park.
@@CanobieCoaster Yeah its a cool old ride, and I get that. But its been neglected to the point where its kinda like if you have a older car that wasn't taken care of well. And its just cheaper to buy a new one than keep fixing the old one. That room could be used for 2-3 compact coasters that honestly would probably be better.
I think they even added a brake going into the second turnaround. Those brakes plus the roughness of the track made this coaster just a shadow of itself. If that's the way they were going to maintain and operate the coaster, then, yes, go ahead and tear it down because it gives the designer, Edward Lewis and the National Amusement Device of Dayton, Ohio a bad name.
I wish I rode this opening year.
Thor Urbana Capital: We are the new owners and we have a plan.
RMC: Let me introduce myself...
Based on their vision for the complex, they want a hybrid ride and entertainment venue. Sadly a major coaster like this (or RMC) wasn't in their plans.
You can download this replica of it for planet coaster
Cool!
Soon itll just be the Grand National that's left of the Mobuis Coasters...
Let that sink in...
Kennywood seems to do a great job taking care of Racer.
@@CanobieCoaster Wish I could say the same for Grand National. They need to give it original style trains back. The PTC ones from what I've heard make the ride very rough.
Yeah, it sadly was quite rough in 2017 when I rode it.
@@CanobieCoaster Do you think rebuilding the original trains and replacing the PTC trains would do it justice?
Possibly. It was worst in a wheel seat.
Me voy a encadenar en la estructura para que no la quiten 😪
Lo siento que la Montaña Rusa esté siendo eliminada.
I think La Féria could use a raptor.
Most parks could.
So true
@@CanobieCoaster RailBlazer/Wonder Woman clones :)
We, Mexican Enthusiast need all your help, please use the HT #SalvenLaMontañaRusa on all your social media.
Hopefully it's saved!
@@CanobieCoaster yeah
First rolling thunder, then thunder road, and now this
Thankfully it looks like the Racers and Grand National look safe.
@@CanobieCoaster is it just me, or are historic racing wooden coasters are kinda dying
Considering they have two tracks and double the maintenance, I can somewhat understand.
@@CanobieCoaster colossus at Magic Mountain is technically an example but that Coaster got rmc
Shame, this looked like a wooden version of Gemini
Unfortunately it didn't race in the end.
new owner probably wants to redevelop the land into something commercial
The plans showed a hybrid performance venue/theme park.
Such an odd ride
Agreed!
Well... I guess there's no longer any reason to visit this park. ☹
I believe it's being rebuilt with some new rides.
RMC MONTANA RUSA 2026 ✔ 💯💯
Sadly it was torn down.
I don’t like this video because most people make this videos to discredit the place . If I was you I would do something else stead of criticizing it. If you are an inspector or an ingeneer well I will give a thumbs ups 🙊 for what see u just went there to talk shit about it
I went there to enjoy the park. Montana Rusa had some great airtime hills and Quimera was among the most intense coasters I have ever ridden. The park had a strong ride lineup.
