Hi Don - I love your clear messages. I am re-learning everything I thought I knew about horsemanship, after some 35 years of BHS stuff, badly taught in various British establishments. I wish there had been youtube, back in the day - I'd have loved to learn liberty with my old mare! But I now have a lovely Arabian gelding, and your '5 basics of liberty training' was the lovliest lesson I've yet seen. So refreshing, to see you enjoy your horse's company, to see you work things out when he loses connection - so lovely to see horsemanship as a bond between friends, rather than a science of control. Thank you!

You are VERY Good. I have mild autism. I can annoy people with bluntness and truth. I say this because I have seen so many of the "greats" live at clinics. I was told by my mentor I MUST start attending live clinics even after I started an Arabian Stallion that 3 professionals had failed to start.
They were afraid of the hospital bills. I grew up with my own green broke stallion so how difficult should it be? The stallion I signed the release for had been "trained" by three others but NO ONE would put their foot in the stirrup to back up their training. He was put in the backlot when parents came for lessons because he would tear down the stall when anyone walked by him. It was recommended I purchase the Ray Hunt Videos which were cheap...that was all I had at the time. My mentor said "The clinics will help you to see all different types of horses and approaches." So after watching live clinics with Buck, C Anderson, C. Cameron, J Winters, W. Shiller, P Parelli, C Cox I asked Jonathon Fields this question. "What do you do differently that should make me purchase your program?" It annoyed him maybe? He is just Jonathon but I sensed a good human being at the core...just like Buck... I did purchase his liberty program and not Parelli's on liberty. You would seem to be sort of new to the business in that I have never seen you on youtube. You are very good. You are making clear some points about liberty which have not been so clear to understand for me. I would lose the horse but people said "move his feet" which did not get the attention back on me. You make it clear to go to the hindquarters...not just move the feet. I also lost the connection when moving up the energy required to go from a walk to a trot...unless it was the Arab I mentioned earlier. I don't know if it is the mild autism but I was allowed to come and go freely on many ranches for helping troubled horses that no one else could manage. I will forever be learning and never call myself a Master. That is just autism though. Horses are my partners and not to be forced to participate. I can behave like a leader with a horse, because my intent is the most noble. That neither the horse, nor another human get hurt. Including me. I know how it feels to be forced to tolerate that which I cannot endure from sensory overwhelm or emotions I don't recognize. A push button horse is a cruel thing to make a zombie out of a horse. Get a mechanical device to do your job in that case...not a living being. I know just how that feels with autism. I do have "feel" and do not understand why others do not? I understand explosions and melt downs. Stay with it. Hope to see you at The Western States California Horse Expo if you haven't already been there.
