    Saw Rooney as a 16 year for Everton vs Fulham in a League cup match. The guy battered pros twice his age and had a mouth on him on the pitch. At 16. A class act.

      Me and my dad always loved Rooney because he seemed to us (some Croatians, so we could be wrong) the quintessential English footballer. We would say he played with the real "bulldog spirit" (roughly translated) - a stubborn player not afraid of physicality or the tackle, putting in work even at the front end of the pitch, with skill on the ball to make him world class while not prone to overcomplicate play through excessive touches. We would joke that he looked less like a footballer and more like some tough English fisherman you would see in the movies, and we meant that in the best possible way. A scrappy player who plays with his heart in the game. I was never a ManUtd fan but I always enjoyed watching Rooney play for them.

    34 and he can still pick a pass out like it was nobody's business
    The problem with a lot of people and those who managed him is that he was made to fit in a position on the field. Street footballers don't have 'positions' they just play. They bruise, jostle, run non stop and play.
    Underrated, misunderstood, relentless, way more intelligent than how he's represented

    • @Prasanth631
      @Prasanth631 Před 4 lety +16

      @Josh I don't pretend to know better. But are you gonna tell me that in his prime he can't play multiple positions? He was put in on the wing to accommodate CR, plays CM, CAM, CF, wing and there's a video of him playing goalkeeper during a Man Utd training session. Street football does not have positions and he's a through and through street footballer. Still he was the most industrious player on the pitch. The CL match against Bayern Leverkeusen in 2014 (I think) when he covered 18km over the course of the match comes to mind. Any player who's only gonna stick to his position can't do that. Anyone who's seen him play will tell you outright that he was a guy who hated standing by and letting the game come to him. I remember multiple instances when he tracked back deep into his own defensive half to defend and then get on a counter attack. That's a classic street footballer move.

    Rooney was always a elite world class player and at one stage IMHO the best"all round player"in the world¬e I said"All round player"Messi and Ronaldo have always been attacking players,but Rooney could play anywhere,but was the "victim of his own success"at Man Utd&was picked to play in so many positions by SAF,to accommodate other players,which he did,without complaining(And he wasn't given much credit or appreciated enough by the fans for this,for some reason? )
    And this might seem strange to some fans,but i always felt confident that if he had gone to play in Italy&mostly certainly Spain,he would have adapted&enjoyed his game, becoming a absolute massive success.
    Playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona would have been easy(under the right manager of course)
    And it's sad to say,but we won't see his like again..Football is just about the Money these days,players chopping&changing all of the time,for massive figures&,contracts..It's unsustainable and ruining the "Beautiful game"as the true legend"PELE labelled it..

  • @Keeley9
    @Keeley9 Před 3 lety +9

    Always thought that we found Scholes replacement in him. You can see his vision and his long range pass even when he plays upfront in his united days ( oftenly drop deep and playmaking )
    LVG was using him in that role also back then. That "Scholes" role was crucial for united, simply making simple pass or spray the ball to forwards or wingers which suited our attacking style.
    But well at least now we have Pogba as he can do long range pass and Bruno to do playmaking upfront as Rooney did when he got Scholes behind him.

    • @random-hq7qo
      @random-hq7qo Před 3 lety

      Rooney managed to play at least 25 Premier League games/season for 16 years.
      His playstyle is much more aggressive and intensive than Ronaldo's, this guy was everywhere one the field.
      Also, he manager to play on PL until 2018 , Ronaldo leave for Real on 2009. La Liga is clearly not as intensive as PL is.
      And Rooney played 33 PL games at 16, Ronaldo played 25 games at the same age but in portuguese league.
      Playing at such a high physical level at such a young age is clearly not good for longevity.
      You just can't compare how they are doing now whithout considering that, unless you are stupid.

Yous do though have a lot of good players a couple exceptional , but as I always say the press in England pick the English squad and they can ruin a players career over night , Rooney would have been a great asset to that England squad

      England has been known to fit big stars instead of peak performers into the squad... that and they were once blessed with Scholes and Gerrard but didn’t know what to do with them..

    Let’s have it right, it’s an insult that Rooney is playing in the championship. Just as it was him playing in the MLS. Taking nothing away from Derby, they’re a great club but my team Everton got rid of him and Sigurdsson, Davies and Delph are playing in the middle and are not fit to lace his boots. We’re crying out for the deep lying play maker with some aggression. Marco Silva is a clown for getting rid and that’s why he got sacked. If only Rooney was there under Ancelotti. An elite player with an elite manager. Good luck to Derby. Hope they win the playoffs

      rooney himself has already reported it was the owner who wanted rid of him.. Big Same conceded he might not play as much because of pressure from above but still wanted him to stay.... marco silva was shocked to find out rooney was already due to leave by the time he got to the club..
