- Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland tabled Canada's 2024 budget on April 16. In her budget speech, Freeland said younger generations need help given the swift rise in housing costs and other inflationary pressures.

However the government has spent approximately 12 Billion combined dollars on foreign aide to other countries and refugees brought into the country. $25 million in Canada's first-ever 2SLGBTQI+ Entrepreneurship Program, $100 million dedicated to supporting the scale up and growth of Canada's innovators, Arrive Canada $54 million, just to mention a few, but there are many more. Yet many Canadian seniors are eating cat food, and trying to hold their lives together as the government continues to house over 40,000 new refugees annually.

Budget deficit coming in slightly lower than expectations (marginally). Okay. service level of the budget, I do like some of the announcements.
Housing sounds good actually. Will take a while for it to be felt throughout the economy but if it's done, it's solid.
Upping taxes for the 0.1% is welcomed. Can understand why upping the tax inclusion rate will not be liked by all but given the times we're in, I get it.
Really need to tackle our debt because that's something this government has not done well. High interest rates (affecting countries globally) due to inflation because of the bloody pandemic has been hard. Rates were set at near zero for a while to spur the economy when it was near dead when everything shut down, so I get why we're here. But it has really kicked the world on all 4s. Ongoing conflicts in the middle east certainly aren't helping things...
Raising taxes on tobacco products - something that costs us taxpayers millions upon millions in healthcare every year - is something I fully support. Yes, you could say the same thing about alcohol (which I do enjoy having) therefore it's a little hypocritical for me to say this but nonetheless, I like it.
Will be a very interesting year if this is passed by the NDP. Servicing out debt, improve housing, increase productivity are priorities for me. Singh doesn't support cutting 5k gov jobs? Why?

Making the wealthy pay more,,,, My city 10 years ago had a woman get power and she did this and taxed the industrial park so much they closed down and left, It ended 2000 jobs and 2 million in city tax so then they hiked the property tax on the home and store's and apartments, So the plan to rob the rich ended up pushing the poor deeper into poverty, Rich People don't stay where they are being robbed, This morning there were 39 thousand people in a group im in that are getting out of canada this summer and lot's are small business owners then that number 2 hours ago jumped up to 42,000, When the rich and the companies are gone where will the money come from? If this new set of taxes pushes Walmart out that puts how many people on welfare and how many more kids will be going without food, The debt is so high now the interest payments alone is over 1 billion a month and they just borrowed another 42 billion, Get ready for a recession and means it's going to be a lot worse than it is right now.
The problem with eating the rich is that eventually you run out of rich people to eat. North Koreans are still starving after they ate their rich.
Walmart is not here to wipe out the tears of poor people and to feed the children; They are here to make and maximize profit. An increase in corporate tax of 0.15% should not be deterring them to stay in Canada as they have earned record profits. The rich and mighty corporations are not kind and not so charitable that increasing a small tax on their enormous tax and capital gains should trigger mass exodus of such mighty caravan. So, the logic is don't cry foul on a progressive taxation (the more wealth/income you have your marginal tax rate goes up) and at the same time crow out 'national debt is balooning'. It is quite paraxodical to cut corporate and wealthy tax and expect the budget deficit to be curbed. I guarantee you walmart, galan weston, empire corp. ect none will be affected that much. On top none of them are charitable and empathetic to not pass on that cost on to the customers. Taxation must be progressive and tax loop holes must be pluged so that fair share of taxation can be administered. Crying out for the rich and mighty is not sensible even on a common sense level because these mighty can fend for themselves very well.
It is a strategy to make us ALL poor.
