    I used to smoke cheaper cigars but eventually I got to where I'd rather smoke less to smoke better. Tryna make this hobby cheap just ruins what makes it beautiful to me. There's always a place for cheap sticks, but I don't wanna smoke to smoke - I wanna smoke to have an experience.

      Everyone likes to smoke the cigar that they want. For me if you wanna smoke a 3-5 dollar cigar at the lounge or at home go ahead that's totally fine. You really don't have to break the bank to enjoy a great cigar. Remember there are still expensive cigars that don't meet the expectation and if you smoke it and have a bad time then you just wasted maybe 15-20 dollars on a really mid cigar. To me what makes the hobby beautiful is that I can enjoy a great premium cigar for a reasonable or cheap price and I don't have to spend like a madman to afford a great stick

    The Flor de Oliva is what I got started on. I smoke the natural robusto and my Dad (who introduced me to cigars) smoked the Gold robusto. I spent 5 days a week (sometimes 6 and 7) for 4 years at Harbor Cigars in Destin, FL with my Dad. They opened at 9 AM and we were generally some of the first there. We'd hold court with the same group of guys everyday. My Dad passed away the day before Thanksgiving 2021 (friggin COVID vaccine) and I made my way back to FL from TX for his funeral. My brother and both went to Harbor and got Dad's daily, the Gold Robusto. Then, the owner gifted us a bundle for after the funeral. This cigar will always have a special place in my heart, and always be in my humidor (even though I now smoke more expensive stuff).

    In my case, my taste is more expensive now that i am older and have a little more cash, like many others who begin this journey. BUT, i have so many good memories from my younger years with cheap cigars and every time a smoke a cheaper one, if its the same thing i smoked back in college for example, it takes me back and really outshines even the expensive stuff sometimes. Sentimental value can’t be expressed in dollars! Don tomas maduro was (and still is) my jam.

Yet, I couldn't call it better than a liga, better than a undercrown, or better than a factory smoke. I enjoy small cigars as every day sticks. Punch London Club (5 x 40), also Elite (5.5 x 46), are usually under $4 each if you buy by the box. About $5 each off the shelf, depending on state taxes. I also enjoy the short or petit coronas (4.5 x 38) that often come in tins. Padron Cortico are a favorite. Perdomo 10th Ann. Champaign is another. Rocky Patel Juniors are excellent little smokes. Ashton short coronas are very nice as well. I'm not sure about the Ashtons but the others are long filler, which I tend to get more enjoyment and satisfaction from than short filler.

    Great video. Thank you for sharing.
    I smoke cheap cigars, and I smoke 22 dollar and higher cigars.
    I typically have no issue smoking cheap cigars. I do tend to save my favorites, such as Drew Estates Leather Rose, Fat Bottom Betty, Sweet Jane, etc., for more special occasions, but honestly I have a humidor filled with Factory Throwouts No. 99 and No. 49. They smoke great, taste wonderful, somehow have really great construction, and last at least an hour per cigar, longer if you take it easy (I smoke very, VERY fast unless I have some whiskey.)
    Cheap cigars are great, and they will always have a place in my line up. I've had some real terrible ones too, ones I don't even consider to be actual cigars due to a lack of one or more construction parts, such as a wrapper leaf...
    But typically I have at least three to four different cheap cigars that I smoke daily, and they are good.
    Do they smoke like a 22 dollar or higher? No, but they smoke great. So, keep your minds open, and broaden your taste palate.

    I like all different sizes of cigars. As for cheap, Argyle Fumas Connecticut Churchill, Argyle Fumas Robusto with Sumatran wrapper. Something like the Partagas Series D. Same with the Villiger Serie Dominicana with Connecticut wrapper. Basically the same cigar, change of wrapper. Both with Peruvian binder, Nicaraguan & Dominican fillers. Both darn good smokes on the cheap! And of course, the Factory Smokes Robustos; Shade Connecticut, Maduro & Sun Grown. Superb value and flavor! Also, the Villiger Selecto Churchill Connecticut & Maduro cigars. Great flavors and construction when you have the time for a 7x50 stogie. Then there's the PDR 1878 Cubano Especial, Capa Maduro & Capa Sun Grown. They are always a bit dry, but given a couple weeks in the humidor, and they're darn good for the price! There are more, but this is a good start.

    One cigar I found about 15yrs. ago that was fantastic, and I still buy them every now and then is the Nestor Plascenia La Finca" Gran Finca"! For about $2.75/cigar I used to get 25 cigars in a beautiful box! and the cigar is a long filler with notes of wood, nuts, and spice! Sadly, I have had a harder time finding them on cigar websites and have moved on to newer blends! I always got compliments on the aroma! They also had good construction and a good burn quality to them! Everything you'd want in a great cigar!

    I used to get down on myself for not really having a super-developed palate. But not when I think about how much I have enjoyed close to 100 different cigars over the last several years- I'm satisfied almost anywhere in the lineups! I only burn about 5-7 a week on average, so it's nice to save a few bucks now and then. Only one of these I haven't tried yet, it's now in queue...about the most sophisticated I am is my choices for breakfast/early day sticks- I have some preferences there, and have found a few exceptional to me. But overall...if you're like me and can't pick out ALL the flavors- don't worry, just enjoy without taking the side-streets into "snobbery". Not a meant to be derogatory...call it sophistication if you prefer. A sophisticate I am not. Nice work Tim!

    I've also branched out and trying more of your American Viking line of cigars. I've enjoyed The filthy Viking in all sizes, Rico Barato Maduro & Connecticut (I'm liking the Belicoso's lately), Obrigado, Dama Valada, Box Pressed Rebellion, Lega Zebra and the Flor De Oliva Connecticut and Maduro. Cheap doesn't have to mean cheap construction or flavor! Neither does middle of the road have to mean hit or miss. These cheaper cigars, say $2 to $8 are, for the most part, better then many of the cigars costing 2-4 times as much! So your musings in this video are on point Tim!

    Always great to learn more about cigars. I sorta started cigars in mid 1970's. Never found a good inexpensive SATISFYING cigar. Twenty years or so ago I found Trinidad Y Cia from JR. They were under a buck each. The Corona is my fav. A nice smoke and won't break the bank. Like a nice wine, you gotta find what tastes best for you. Not nobody else. Considering our american dollar is worth shit these days, a fiver for a smoke is reasonable. Think my Trinidad's are $30 a bundle now and that's still a bargain. A swell cigar for enjoyin' on the porch with some schnapps, wine or brandy.

    There have been very few cigars I legit hated. While I love Drew Estate, the factory smokes were genuinely gross. Tried 3 or 4 times. With finances tightening up that has nearly stopped my cigar purchasing, and my humidor running low, I'd love to find a few on the cheap. May try some of the others mentioned.

  • @Zachadiddle
    @Zachadiddle Před 2 měsíci

    Economy cigars definitely get a bad wrap. What with construction burn and consistency issues certainly some ill will is warranted. That said, I’ve found (embarrassingly late) that before you blame the stick, you really need to make sure you’re taking proper care of them or you’ll hate it before you ever really gave them a fighting chance. For me that looked like putting them in my air tight tuperdor with some 62% bovedas and letting them acclimate for at least a week. I found immediately burn issues diminished, draws improved, and flavor really popped. There’s value to be had out there but, patience is absolutely key! Hope this helps someone who is also ballin on a budget!
