I've been digging a lot of excellent drumming videos on Y.T. lately. but this one has it all; Superb musicality, over the top drumming skill , groove for days, enough funk to make the dead bob their head and just totally entertaining even if you're not a drummer. I am so very impressed with this man Robert Sput Searight. This is one video i'll be watching over and over.

This is by far the best solo I've ever enjoyed. Most drummers just beat the hell outta the drums, mostly as fast as they can while keeping a beat. This guy literally takes you on a journey. I will definitely be listening to this many many many times again!!

I smiled with delight and joy the entire performance. This is a musician who just happens to play the drums. Every syncopated lick was beautifully crafted to accompany the track and Mr. Seawright just entered my top 10 best youtube drum performances. I could watch this all day. Thanks for sharing this gem!
If I had not seen this with my own eyes, I probably wouldn't have believed it just by only listening to it. It just don't seem to be humanly possible to perfectly execute with that kind of precision for so long error free. But I did witness this with own eyes, and the only word that seems to come to mind is FLAWLESS. Thank you.

That's my dude Sput, a kool bro that I've been knowing almost 40 years, and he is an ARTIST. He can play various instruments, but his first love is skinz. He's played on countless artist from r&b to gospel, to rap, to jazz; you really can't miss him, even in the classical genre. But, most of all he's as humble as they come, even with a Grammy, and other awards. He has spent years perfecting his musical craft, with his musical family, relatives, and other well known artist; Snoop Dogg, Lalah Hathaway, Snarky Puppy, Mz E Badu, Kirk Wahlum, Ciara, Fred Hammond, The Clark Sisters, Pharrell, Kirk Franklin, just to name a few. His cuzzin and mine, play for Badu, and travel across the globe doing what they love, 🎼. He layed the track for this session, a local legend with a good spirit 😉

He's not just keeping the beat, he's playing the melody as well. Really beautiful player and the way those drums have been tuned is sublime....BIG KUDOS!

Out of the thousands of drum video’s I’ve watched, not to mention being a drummer for 35 years….this was the BEST display of musicianship I’ve seen. If you’re a drummer you can understand what I’m saying. He makes it sound easy while playing tight inside, outside, and around the pocket. Absolutely AMAZING!!!
His drumming is awesome. Sounds purposeful, like it's telling a story.
Now that was extremely entertaining. You just made me feel like I got no business with drum sticks in my hand. Thank you for that awesome performance.

@@tomspice73 You must be tone deaf. Not only are there dozens of nuanced features to this solo, but he is harmonically alligned with the backing track too. You cant find me a drummer this versatile and with such dynamics.

@@tomspice73 1. Thats subjective. 2. Steve Gadd is great, one of my favs. But not even Gadd has phrasing like this, nor does he have the drum capacity sput uses here. It's a non-argument. Sput is using 2 drumsets here. I've never seen or heard Gadd do something like that.

After watching this man's clinic, 5 times, I love it more and more. Unbelievable technique and precision. I am grateful to my search engine for allowing me the opportunity to enjoy such power and musicianship. Well done.

I smile every time I watch this because this is a gift. I've played on and off for 20 years and Mr. Searight is my new drum hero.

But when I wanna be entertained, I watch you kick. You are my favorite drummer to watch, and that is saying a lot because I have so many favorites. He enters every movement like he's some guy who walked into the store to try out a drumset for the first time only to kill it, and it feels so real...this is 🎨. This is smooth as a baby's bottom perfection!

Wow. Sput has a perfect combination of groove AND chops.....top shelf ---- as good as the skins can possibly be played by a human being. My new favorite drummer right now. Phenomenal.

This man is a master of drums and music. I saw him once at Zydeco in Bham, and I can't even remember the name of the band, just remember being entranced by Sput the entire night, even ignoring my date most of the night!

the opening to his backing track is just so wonderful beautiful (the whole thing is an amazing work) but jeez if sput wrote that I'd love to hear more!
Two things-
1.) Is he naturally a lefty? His left hand work and ambidexterity in general are unbelievable!
2.) HOW did he figure out all the right heads to use? Everything sounds so friggin' perfect!
P.S. I LOVE the unconventional setup and use of different snares, timbales, stacks, etc. instead of just a huge row of toms
I think the amazing sound he gets out of the kit is partly due to the guy that mastered most of the snarky albums, Eric Hartman. Sput cites that guy as helping him get a really good sound out of his kit. Also I agree, I hate seeing just an orgy of toms with nothing interesting inbetween ☺️
+William Keating Yeah he is, Sput says he naturally left handed, but he learned to play open handed because it would be impossible to play behind other drummers who are of course right handed, and there would be no time to switch a whole drum set around just to play.

The build up part is just awesome
I’ve watched this video about 7 or 8 times over the years, and here’s a couple things just noticed..: the kit to the the left is in tune with the arrangement: he is using some jhonny rabbi signature cymbals: I’m pretty sure that is a hcs hat combo the far left: and there are generation x cymbals on the kit. He did so much with the whole series of meinl cymbals. From hcs to byzance. Im excited to buy some meinl cymbals in the near future.
