I like how the sensei emphasized that the purpose of self-defense is to ensure your safety as you escape and call out for help. In real life, even expert martial artists can and will still lose if they force a confrontation with an armed attacker, when caught off-guard or when they're outnumbered.
yeah that first lesson is the most important lesson any self defense coach should teach, any fight you don’t have to participate in is a fight you’ve won.
These days though you can't rely on anyone helping you so you really need to do more than just distract them. You really need to make sure they stay down
Tomoko had the top tier scream. She went from 0 to 100 so quickly!!!! That's technique!!!
Have to love Tomoko, she's awesome.
She has a secret metal band she’s the front for.
I have been training karatedo for most of my life, and I can actually relate to some of these techniques, like the scream. Usually at competitions, in the fighting category, an attack followed up by a kiai is required to score a point. Also, in kata, there are certain techniques where you have to scream
sadly it is now exagerated and not practical unlike combat sports kiai's
same as in tkd. you want to scream in any martial art because it makes you attack harder and maximizes how much power you put in
Watching this brings back the joint pains of taijutsu and I'm really flexible, but now I miss martial arts training.
Thank you soooo much, the online ninja community has been starving for new legit content. You delivered. Stay Ninja!👉☝️👹
I have been doing Aikido for the longer part of my life and found this very enjoyable to watch. I’d love to attend a regular training session with Ichikawa-sensei.
maybe try sparring a mma person youll see how usefull aikido is
Sadly Aikido when actually applied to martial arts doesn't really work like at all. Martial Arts Journey did a video on trying to make Aikido work combat wise

Shogo: Thank you so much for everything you do!
Kazu: I'd love to hang out, you are hilarious.
Tomoko: Marry me!
Self defense technique is Aikido. katatedori, tenkan, kotaegaeshi etc
And Kaiten nage
I had more fun with this than I should, great screams. My favourite part has to be 15:32 of the knife leason; "Once you get to this point, there's nothing they can do" as he proceeds to slay his opponent, morbidly funny I gotta say.
These tips are amazing. They’re very non confrontational which is great for properly diffusing scary situations. Kind of like learning street smarts.
being taught ninja fighting styles by jin sakai would be an honor indeed
I am learning aikido and recognise the grab techniques- So awesome! Also, when we practice tachi no kurai (iaido) I have to yell when I strike. It felt awkward for me at first, but hearing all my Dojo mates do the same made it easier. Love this video! Shogo, you never disappoint! I would LOVE to go visit these hidden gems!
What is fantastic about learning is that there is distance, respect, balance and fighting culture. And above all, taking care of mental balance 🌞 Absolutely respect and BOWS !
Best wishes, from 🇵🇱🕊️🤝
Shogo, this was a GREAT Video!
Thank You!
cool ninja fighting techniques.
U always show interesting content Thanks Shogo
Yay Tomoko!! This was a great video. I saw some of the techniques I was taught. Loved this. Excellent Shogo and Kazu!
Grab my wrist, no, my other wrist
Excellent video's every one a big thank you for all of your hard work.
I'm learning a lot from this. Very educational and entertaining.
Loved this! I think I say that about all your videos!
This honestly was so valuable to me! I live in an area where there is lots of crime on the streets like mugging. So I will definitely remember these lessons
take up a martial arts class (or several) and read up on your local laws regarding defensive weapons; carry that and train with it often
every time i walk to the nearest convenience store for eggs or a can of Monster, I walk past a paving slab my friend stood on when he was stabbed to death. his name is carved there. be safe friend
Yelling used to work when men were actually men. But now thanks to feminists, boys and cowards abound. Yell all you want, nobody is coming to save you.
I'd suggest running away or kickboxing for those
As an experienced martial artist and self-defence instructor, my advice for you is to question why you are in areas that you perceive to be dangerous.
Don't waste your time with "self-defence" classes. Wake yourself up and get a taxi.
That felt like home, thank you for sharing!
Hey, Shogo. Very cool to see this aspect of Japanese Martial Arts explored. One of my favorite ninja creative treatments is Ninja Scroll 💥💥
What a very cool experience, thank you for sharing, Shogo! I will definitely visit this place when I'm able to travel back to Kyoto. Such helpful and practical techniques! 🥷⭐
Thanks for sharing this^^
Shogo I just need to say you make very pure and honest content and I really love how you share your culture is such a clean way. Your wife is a real sport whe it comes to your channel and I was super impressed with her shout. This was very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing these video's
Japan is one of the few countries I neglected on my quest for knowledge, and the shorts made me gain a interest in their culture. So far it’s pretty interesting, let’s see if it makes my top five things I want to know.
Very nice! Love the fist punching to prepare! And the elbow move of, " What did you say?"
Very fun seeing you investigate Ninjutsu. I would love to see you visit a Bujinkan Dojo!
Loved the video!!! Also, could you do a video about omamori, I'm really curious about it!!
Thanks!
I would love to learn Ninjitsu and Koppojutsu someday...really great video...I like this Sensei...peace and blessings
Do a video on how Tokyo got so big next!!!!!!! I’ve been searching this up from Google but you have become a very credible source for me. What is better than hearing an answer from an honest human!
Thanks for the video! I see some of the techniques demonstrated are the same used in Aikido and Jiu Jitsu.
Nice, Thank You!😘
3:00 That scroll on the wall behind the ninja master with the Ku-Ji Kiri is soooo cool!!!
Truly awesome!
Hi Shogo,
You mentioned there are scary things happening in Japan, but the only news available when I look is just tourist stuff about if Japan will open its borders. Please share more on this.
It’s stuff he can’t really cover on the channel if I’m not mistaken. There’s a lot of sexual assault that takes place in public, and the culture of speaking up isn’t quite as common there as it is in more western countries.
I have like 40 videos of Shogo stored in my watch later 😂I’m gonna binge them
I love everything about ninjas. Hopefully one day I can go to this place in real life
9:02 katate dori in aikido
14:17 nikyo application
15:29 tsuki kotegaeshi
Nice.
I liked it very much
I am Malay. And we got Martial arts call silat. Like Kung fu, it varies. The One i learn is the on that simple. If you watch Ip man, it pretty much the same goal. Take down enemy as fast you can. Except no cool jump etc. To be honest, never expect anyone to carry ninja title nowadays. Thanks for sharing this
Assalamualaikum, belajar silat apa?
Saya silat cekak pusaka ustaz Hanafi
Awesome 👍🙏⛩🐲⛩
Ninjutsu it's so nice to real life , it's like judo , jiu-Jitsu and hapkido it's so awesome!❤
Hello Shogo, can I request your reaction about Samurai Jack? The story following about samurai called Jack while his name is unknown has send into dystopian future by shape shifting wizard named Aku, then Jack must find a way to returning home while undo Aku's destruction and defeat him
For first season from 1 to 4 is okay to watch for Hinata and Nagi, but for season 5 is darker and more mature for both of them due to extreme scenes, so viewer discretion is advised on season 5
This looked like fun. Tomoko looked adorable in that outfit.
Looks just like Aikijujutusu, Aikibujutsu, Hapkido. That's probably the first time I have seen it trained so similarly.
I can attest to the power of screaming. I currently live in Ecuador, and in one of the houses I rented from, the landlady's son was a thief! He stole some things from me when I wasn't at home and one night, he busted into my apartment WHILE I WAS THERE. I just walked up to him, got in his face, and started screaming in English and pushing him out the door. He was so shocked, he just ran away. I moved very soon after that!
Using everything in harmony while evading danger
If you ever have the chance, look up Ninja Assassin.
Hi Shogo
I still continue to meditate perform yoga and read to improve my technique to ready for anything. I purchased a real pair of nunchaku to improve my hand eye coordination and practice. Using a string and two toothbrushes I made another pair for the purpose of improving hand eye coordination there in prison. Thank you.
I've learned bujinkan ninjutsu before and yes my sensei did told us many times a purpose of a ninja is to escape not to fight ,see this video reminds me of my time training in the dojo
Hello Shgo. LOVE your channel.
Almost everyone has heard of the samuti and ninja/Shiobr . But I have heard of another group called the SOHEI. Could you explain who they otigins?n
Whoa, I'd definitely rely more on ninja training than martial arts to keep myself safe after seeing this!
Great video...seems some what similar to Aikido training..
that's because its a mix of martial arts as judo, jujitsu, karate.
I was one of those kids who run like Naruto and I still think that's cool 😆
I am from Mexico, and I have always wanted to move to Japan, and learning Ninjutsu and Kobudo. :D
I wish I could make my dream to come true some day...
Shogo why don't you ever interview someone from the BUJINKAN... They specialize in Ninpo
Dr.Kacem Zhougari is one you should definitely do
Love all your videos, however, u should translate the language to english instead of subtitles because i miss the entire episode just reading the subtitles. But i still love watching your videos.👍
Fundamental techniques we use in Bushinryu all the time.🤜
Tomoko-san had the most relatable vibe while screaming. Does the screaming also count as a battle-cry?
Can you do a course here? Like learn ninjustsu?
This video startet automatically ( loudless) when i opened up youtube. I was less intrested when suddenly a familiar face bumped in the screen... ( havn't seen witch channel it was 🙈)
My mind: Ooooh 😃😃, it's Shogo. Okay, now you have my attention 😆😆😆
Plz make a vedio on if ninjas really used genjutsu and how they used it
Shogo, I am a practicioner of Bujinkan myself and these kata or techniques are very similar of what we do.
If you would like. I could DM you if you would like too say an opinion ^^
The ninjas did Taijutsu and Jujitsu
A lot of these moves look like Aikido for the self defense. 💜
Ninjutsu combines nearly everything that works. Aikido can be seen as a ''phillosophy of human phycis'' so it's used in MANY martial arts.
Recognising several techniques from aikido here.
This reminds me of when I was about to be robbed when walking from school. I saw the guy looking at the print out of my smartphone in my pocket and knew what he had in mind. As i approached the guy sitting on the hydrant he suddenly grabbed me by the wrist like in the video but i was ready. I took him by surprise and swung my forearm hitting him in the face and knocking him off the hydrant and ran. He never got a chance to use that knife he had.
6:10 - 6:54 I get the fact that it's suppose to be a tactic, but hearing you two scream reminds me of a scene that could be played out on a comedic horror movie! I love it!
10:29 Interesting! I know that a ninja is suppose fights as much as possible, but I wonder it you can get a sneak attack in by raising the elbow to strike them?
10:44 Hey! It answered my question!
10:55 Ah, yes. The consequence of the action.
11:39 So you rotate your body 90 degrees from the opening to break away. Impressive!
12:18 I also think that if you manage to kick their back, that can give you more time to run as they stumble to the ground.
12:44 Let's see the explanation on this one!
14:23 How I see it, it's like the offender wasn't expecting anyone to come near their face, but with that new reaction, you can turn the tide of the confrontation.
15:34 "Dun! Dun! Dun! Fatality!" In honesty, that's a smooth move. A potential one chance move, but a smooth one.
It's cool everytime I see moves from a different art that are extremely similar my own art of Tang Soo Do.
Just wandering how much it will cost to learn the basics things about Sword if I travelled to Japan in Holiday and how long it will take 😊 ??
This is all things my dad taught me as a child so that as a female, I could stay as safe as possible in a dangerous world. Now that I think of it, I was probably about Hinata's age.
KAZUS BACK
I love ninjas
i think he should clarify which techniques are verified to be really old, or more modern, if that is possible. like which ones are confirmed to be as old as sengoku or older, which ones can be traced to edo, and which ones are meiji or even more modern. i know thats probably not easy. but from what ive learned the ninjato sword for example does not seem to have any historical verification from earlier than 1900s.
I think Tamako needed to yell as stress relief..
Is he related to Bujinkan? I recognize a couple technics.
I have learned a little bit of how to defend our lives😅 so I'm struggling to defend myself😅😅✌🙈
When I Sato Kaeri to Japan 🇯🇵. Definitely check this place out. I also acquired a Ninjato 🥷🏼.
Only 8k to go!
Best lesson; escape any fight you can. The fight you don’t have to fight is the one you win.
Next best lesson; have tools and awareness for any situation you may find yourself in.
Ichikawai sensei seems really cool, I’d be happy to have that old fart roll me on the mat. Haha
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Those bare handed techniques look almost like aikido.
Train to run. Run for a long time, and run fast... Train to run. The rest is for emergencies only!
*inhale* AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!
What Ryu or ryuha is it?
The most commercial ninjutsu starting class... beware, It tried once and... many years of bujinkan training happened!
Welcome to the desert of the real.
during the sengoku era, did the ninja use guns?
I don't think so, weren't they spies that used their weapons as tools? I don't think there'd be any other use to a revolver other than to shoot and to attract attention.
In the documentary *Age Of Samurai: Battle For Japan* I remember seeing the Ninja from Iga province fire single volleys of arquebus shots when they ambushed Oda Nobukatsu's invading forces, but there wasn't any actual commentary from the historians specifically in regard to the Ninja using firearms.
Personally I think it's likely that the Ninja did use guns when they had to defend their territory from the invading Samurai using protracted warfare tactics, but probably not during the covert operations the Ninja were hired for. But this theory is just based on my own speculation, I'm certainly not an expert.
Breathe in 6 seconds, hold in 6 seconds, and breathe out in 6 seconds. Hmmm.... my christian senses are tingling.
I dont know if its offensive to compare 2 martial arts but these ninjutsu techniques kinda remind me of wado ryu techniques.
Martial arts are a bit like languages and religions, you can trace their origins as they spread and interact with each other.
Look A little similar to Bujinkan
NanDesuke?🦾✌
Oh it's just like the simplest Aikido moves. **cuts guys Throat with his own knife, still in his hand**. Well, I guess not
