Don’t know how far you both are on Patreon, but once you finish season 1 I would very much recommend watching the two OVAs “Memory Snow” and “Frozen Bonds”. Both are cannon and give good context to the story.

I have a question to those more in tune with this world and stuff: how are there people among the soldiers seemingly in grief and pain when the whale is mentioned? That reaction would seem is because they lost someone to it but given the nature of that creature how is that possible? Would it be because at some point in life they became aware that certain events from their pasts don’t make any sense unless someone was missing?
if they get eatin by the whale they dont get remembered but if they get killed they are remembered but are still dead. ppl can get killed by the whale with out being eaten. if that makes sense
