    Hi! I've been thinking about learning how to quilt but don't have a machine or anything yet, but this video was really useful for showing how I could try hand piecing something small to start with! Thank you for the video!

      You’re very welcome. You can hand quilt too so there’s nothing stopping you from making an entire quilt by hand 🥰 Start with a small project like a cushion first though, so you don’t overwhelm yourself. A full sized quilt is a lot of work, even with a machine. Let me know how you get on. Kim x

    I’m so happy to find your video. I am very interested in “hand quilting” but was looking in the wrong place. I wanted a tutorial to show me how to start from the beginning and not just the end hand quilting piece. So thank you, thank you!. I don’t own a sewing machine but would love to make a quilt. I also find sewing very calming, peaceful and quieting. Now I know to follow your hand piecing videos. Your explanations and tips are so helpful. I’m from California so I also particularly love your accent; so soothing.

    💖🌸 Kim you made my day with this video. I find hand stitching, slow stitching, embroidery and all the other names so very relaxing and more me then a machine. So this video was the cat's meow for me! Thank you for the needle threading hints. When I do use the machine I think I will also wet the needle as instructed here to see if it simplifies that as well for I will also continue to use my machines. Thank you for what may seem like simple hints for you can be a sewing dream for this learner.

    That is the way I make my quilts one stitch at a time even when hand quilting , sewing machines and I do not get along at all. Glad you mentioned how to thread a needle most videos show people cut the thread first then thread the needle going against the twist of the thread that’s why you get knots and tangles in the thread.

    I bought a Clover Desk Needle Threader yesterday and really like it for my Gutermann 50 weight thread but NOT for embroidery thread I will be using your ideas for the embroidery thread and when I do not have that gadget with me which will be often enough while busy on the road this summer. What are your thoughts on Beeswax? I feel it is helpful with embroidery and handsewing. I do not what the long term effects on the thread and or fabric will be however.

      @QuiltWithKim  Před rokem +3

      Hi Denise, apologies it's taken a couple of weeks to respond 😳 As far as I know beeswax is great for any hand sewing or embroidery and doesn't harm anything (I've never heard anything adverse about it). Don't get it anywhere near your machine though :-) Kim x

      Ah, yes, I did wonder if anyone would ask 😅 It's a Thimblepad. I can't stand wearing 'proper' thimbles as find they're too cumbersome and not comfortable. I bought a pack of these about ten years ago and still have some left of that original pack (ie a pack lasts a LONG time!). They're small leather discs that stick onto your finger where you need to push a needle. You can't feel a thing, they don't get in the way, and they're re-usable. Truly brilliant! And I stick one on the back of my hand if I need to imminently use it 😄 Search for Colonial Needle Thimble Pads on Amazon.
