I don't know if this will be helpful information or not but painters tape is just more of a specialist masking tape. Painters tape is usually low tac so it does not rip the paint off, that has been masked off with the tape, when removing it. Artists use painters tape, rather than masking tape, to tape paper to painting boards so it does not rip the paper when taking it off. (sometimes it still does but thats a different story altogether lol). So, as an artist I am a bit of an experienced person when it comes to the different types of tape that is tacky enough to stick but not so tacky that it will stick too well lol (to paper anyway). Washi tape is low tac but tends to not be sticky enough to stay stuck down but it is great for using to put longer guidelines on a sewing machine as it does not leave residue when removed. Oh one last nugget of info I hope will be useful. Heat will loosen the adhesive on any masking tape, I have used a hair dryer before to unstick masking tape to get it off my paper. So if masking tape is a good choice, then it doesn't sound like a more specialist tape is require, thus saving us money :) Always a bonus. I hope this has been helpful. Having said all that, you might have had a different experience with painters tape on fabric. T x

Aww thank you for that 😘 I think what is masking tape in the UK is called painter's tape in the US....so whilst the DIY industry has set out to confuse us all, what we're after (as you said) is the low tack tape which does not leave a residue on your fabric. Kim x
