    I knew someone who studied with him for a year, and was full of praise for Londeix's wonderful instruction. I can hear they share the full range and power of the sax, also the great variety of mood and stillness achievable with the right musical sense.

    I've had the pleasure of having a class with him. He's incredibly nice. He's also extremely direct and demanding. Truly one-of-a-kind.

    I agree. When someone's alto sax approaches good a clarinet timbre, it makes me want to hear him/her belt out Brahms' clarinet stuff, which I've always thought could use a small dose of "sax" to add a touch of wistfulness and levity to all that great pithiness.

    Indeed. this recording is half a step up than the original. Probably some flaw with the means in which it was recorded

    Sounds good in E Major...too bad writing it in that key would be the equivalent of strapping an alto player to the rack...

    I actually like this recording very much, better than the Rousseau version. I prefer this particular tone, in all honesty, it is really similar to the tone I get. I don't like the held back restricted tone that I hear from alot of classical saxophonists. And with this tone, he really shines on the passionate parts of the piece, and he also had very nice musicality, I never met this guy and it is a shame if he is indeed a jerk, but I enjoyed this version of the concerto.

    It's not... it was probably recorded at A=442. Pretty common in Europe. That, or the medium that it was recorded on was recorded 'slow', so when it plays back at a regular speed it's faster and a higher pitch level.

    Londeix=tone standard for legit alto. Just my opinion...

  • @ENsaxist
    @ENsaxist Před 12 lety

    I don't think that's a very good thing to say. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you have to bash it so eagerly. We all have preferences on pieces like this. Standards like this, and Creston are so easily criticized because they're so well-known. Londeix was a true master of the instrument, and so many saxophonists would be appalled at your comment... ESPECIALLY Dr. Rousseau. For being a student of such a gentle person, I think you have a lot to learn...

    Something along the lines of saying that Londeix was a cruel person who always had negative things to say about a persons playing. That, and Rousseau was a far better teacher because he always had kind things to say.

    c'est insupportable ce son de saxophone "classique" ; c'est criminel de faire jouer ce répertoire à des enfants ! on ne peut que les dégoûter de ce merveilleux instrument. Avant Bério, le répertoire pour saxophone est vraiment indigent. ne parlons même pas des transcriptions de pièces de Chopin pour saxophone. Au secours !

      Adam Aronesty A piece says nothing about the level of the musician who’s playing it. Anyone could play this piece, but it could be very messy. I personally think middle school is far too soon, but I don’t know you tho.
