  • Sigurd Rascher performs Jacques Ibert's Concertino Da Camer Live with the Krasner Chamber Orchestra.
Ibert composed the Concertino for Sigurd Rascher after meeting and hearing Rascher perform. Ibert was struck with Rascher's control of the high register, so much so that he utilized almost the full four octaves in his work.
Rascher premiered the work first movement of the Concertino on May 2, 1935 and premiered the completed work on December 11, 1935. Rascher would go on to perform the Ibert hundreds of times with leading orchestras all over the world.

Thanks, Michael. My cassette copy is interrupted--half on one side, half on the other. Nobody's alto was ever as sweet.

Not sweetness as an end-in-itself, but as the reward for an intense rigor of musicianship and an esthetic of tonal purity.
