The way you set it up definitely allowed me to enjoy this amazing game at a price point that I could financially make possible. Sorry to hear that some people are disappointed, but I am only grateful. The combination of BobWorldBuilder making a lightning fast review/kickstarter announcement and your awesome early backer incentives is what motivated me to jump into this awesome system. Sorry to hear that some earlybird backers are being jerks about how good their deal is. Reasonable people know that earlybird tiers are for snowballing hype by locking in the best possible base price but the higher tiers may have the best possible value as their incentive. I’m just glad to be a part of this project and jazzed that someone has the same thoughts on ancestry selection, multiclassing, action economy, and spells. It’s uncanny how DC20 has the streamlined rules and freedom of play I always wanted from the TTRPG experience.
As an early backer, I find this bullying unnecessary. You are welcome to see the value and think everyone should.
But calling people jerks for not wanting to lose $45 in value… That is not in the spirit of this community.
When everyone wins…everyone wins. I don’t really understand the complaints.
Also as an early backer I fully understand the frustration of those early backers.
You see the early backer rewards and compare them to the other packages and see you get a lot of the content available at the Digital Only package, and you get that content for free and can choose to add-on the remaining digital products to achieve the content package for the Digital Only tier - that just makes sense financially.
If you only want the rulebooks and not the art collection or the premade campaigns, you can get that for 55$. That's a very good deal. However lets not kid ourselves... this is a business decision to get people to pledge. Once the ball starts rolling more and more people will enter and the Devs will recuperate the "lost income" through those new backers who were unlikely to invest previously due to skepticism, but they get convinced because of early backers investing beforehand.
Being digital products only, it seems very hand-in-hand to want VTT support to go along with your other digital content. However to get that support you need to wave goodbye to the free content of the early bird rewards and spring for the Digital Only tier since there's no add-on purchase for VTT support. Precisely due to that omission it feels like a punishment for an early backer that VTT support got chained to the Digital Only tier and above.
The early access to the digital character creator is not quantifiable as it isn't a standalone product and in practice they will function as beta testers for the product, so when it goes live for everyone the worst issues have been taken care of. Additionally we have no knowledge of what early access quantifies in time - are we talking months? weeks? days? - we have no information in the Kickstarter and thus it is impossible for the backer/customer to address any real value to this feature. Thus it is the savings on the PDFs that you can quantify as the early bird reward.
In the scenario above, going from a 55$ investment for the digital rulebooks (because of the early bird rewards) to add the possibility of VTT support is +40$. You get some other content on top, that you weren't that interested in in the first place, so it's mostly for the VTT support.
Personally I made that jump from 55$ to 95$, because I like the promise of the product and wanted to support the stretch goals, even though it seems unlikely that we'll reach the VTT support - especially since we still don't know the backing needed for those stretch goals. But I really think you have no business telling people they are unreasonable for feeling punished out of the value of the early bird rewards if they also desire VTT support, and you have no right to call them jerks on those grounds alone.
I really don't understand the premise of the complaints. The early bird reward never included everything digital, and it still doesn't include everything digital. The fact that more digital content is available, and that you want that new content, isn't taking anything away from anyone. Feeling cheated would only make sense if the new stuff had a $0 value and was being held hostage for a higher price arbitrarily.

Let me paint a value perception to illustrate this in a different manner. And let me be very precise; this is an example, it is subjective, it is not personal.
Let's assume you want the digital version of the Core Rulebook and the Monster Manual and you're an early backer so you get the Magic Item PDF, the Oneshot PDF and the Advanced guide for free. Then comes the VTT support that you would like to go with your other digital content so you can really use it broadly.
PDF Tier: 30$ cost -> 30$ value
Early bird rewards: 0$ cost -> 45$ value
Monster PDF: 25$ cost -> 25$ value
Total: 55$ cost -> 100$ value or a surplus of value of 45$
Then comes the VTT support available only at Digital Only tier or above for 95$. Lets assume we spring for the 95$ Digital Only tier to acquire VTT support, but is not really interested in any of the other bonuses from that tier. The new value proposition is thus:
PDF Tier: 30$ value
Early Bird rewards: 45$ value
Monster PDF: 25$ value
Curse of Wolf's Peak: 0$ value
Digital art: 0$ value
VTT Integration: X$ value

Digital Only 95$ cost -> 100$ + possible VTT value (this was before the stretch goal was reached AND before it was announced that all VTT rewards were linked at the 2.1M $ stretch goal)
Surplus value went from 45$ to 5$ or you can see it as the VTT costing 40$ and would have to provide value for at least 40$ to be a good financial decision.
I'm not an owner of a VTT license so I don't know the markets that well. If I were to get DnD 5e on Foundry, the Foundry game platform itself costs 62$ as a one-time license fee (when including taxes from where I live). Then I need to import the 5e books from a digital distributor like DnDBeyond or Roll20 where I buy a digital copy of the rulebooks. I haven't found any integration costs - it was a partnership between Foundry and Wizards of the Coast/DnDBeyond.
If I instead want it for DC20, I already paid for the digital copy of the rulebooks (55$ in the first scenario), but I also pay for the possibility of a VTT integration (+40$). Not to forget that I paid 62$ for Foundry, just like I would for DnD 5e.
Now you might say that I also get access to use DC20 on Alchemy and Demiplane (or a 50% discount) and should include that value. But if I don't use those platforms it doesn't provide value to me. And very likely just like Foundry I would probably have to pay for the platform itself to reap those benefits. So for me at this very moment they provide 0$ value.
The real question becomes: If I were to buy that VTT integration for Foundry separately, at a later time. What would it cost? We know it technically costs 40$ in the KS with the example above, but what value does it hold?
This is where the frustration and the feeling of being punished stems from.

Went from 95 to 145 for Us.
still couldn't understand why ppl say the early backers are screwed ? if i update my pledge to the 95$ tier now and im an early bird backer, i cant get the VTT stuff

I'm pretty sure you answer this already multiple times but, haha I early backed the first tier, but today decided to go for the physical book, would i still get the early backer stuff? I know some of them have already been added in the rewards but in any case after the change am I still consider early backer? Great job man Im really excited about the book congrats and keep the hype up haha
He mentioned in another stream that as long as you just “manage” your pledge as opposed to cancelling it and making a new one, your original Backer number will remain

Any chance we'll be able to upgrade our pledge post campaign conclusion? I wouldn't think so, but I'd love to upgrade from the $30 tier till the $95 tier but wouldn't be able to till Wednesday. No worries if the answer is no. Still very excited to play.

DC20 is outstanding. The early bird backers who are screening up are idiots. They don’t even understand the concept of Kickstarter. Idiots. They should stick with playing D&D as they can’t understand anything worthwhile.
