I was originally going to scrap this entire episode but I thought it’s good to show sometimes shit happens…
Hey, not everything works. Good to see that failures can happen and at least we got some goofiness from you on it, so all is not lost.
I also now want to see a Harry Potter sequence where instead of using magic wands, the wizards just pull out some muskets.
Ty for not scraping it, seing that other peoples projects sometimes don't work out either is inspiring in it's own way, also nice to see what you tried
The project might not have succeeded, but an episode is still an episode and it's just as entertaining. Would have been a shame to have all the work done without making use of it

The expression at 1:24 priceless. The jokes at the start made me realise why they only show people cleaning their swords on screen but never their wands.
I think a wand that actually does some damage would need a completely new concept. Probably the best way to go would be to have a gas tank release some pressurised gas for like half a second, which gets ignited at the same time. It should be able to make a somewhat decent fireball, similar to taking a lighter and pointing a deodorant at it for a brief moment. A huge advantage of the design would be having essentially a magazine with probably up to a few hundred "shots" in it
So basically, a homemade mini flamethrower stick that functions in half-second bursts.
fero rod and magnesium shavings are very responsive to a spark or flame - you could preload some in a flashpaper wadding

a longer barrel like maybe 2-3in would be better not for allowing more fuel to go in but to create more room for the flame to sort of compress itself and cause more pressure resulting theoretically in more range
When he said "I can't" I knew exactly what he meant. I'm sure he could do something really dangerous/functional but people are not allowed to have fun these days, it's just that simple. It wouldn't take that much effort to make something like a gun like object that looks like a wand and fires off a ball of flame that can do some damage.
It's obviously the lack of incantation and wand movement. Though I guess Tyranth is that powerful to go without. Thanks for sharing the video.

I really love and respect the honesty; I think most of us would rather hear "it sucks, don't bother" than "oh this thing is really cool and super dangerous, you just have to do X crazy thing in Y specific way in Z unpredictable circumstances and it'll give you a nasty spook"
Side note: What about making a staff into a fireball cannon?

As far as making it do what it's supposed to do better, you succeeded, which to be honest is what I thought you were aiming for when I started the video. Then I realized you wanted to weaponize it and that's when hilarity ensued...

You need about 2-3 inch long "barrel". Ignition source at the bottom. Put in a small piece of gun cotton, then some flash paper. Throws a fireball several feet.

Maybe future "magic" tests should focus more on recreating the effects that the magic thing is supposed to create and less on it looking like a wand. The key thing you're testing is not that you can make a magic wand with commonly available items, but how effective something that shoots out a lightning bolt or jet of flame or whatever would be as a weapon. If you have some bigger tests you can't do yourself where you are, maybe find channels like Demolition Ranch that you can team up with to do the tests you can't to in Australia.
As for the wand replicas/designs, create those as a prop for filming, but realize if you're testing a wand that shoots out a jet of flame in combat capable amounts, you'll basically need a flamethrower to produce the jet of flame to test how effective the effect the wand produces would be IRL. Or take into account that you're scaling things down and don't be so literal with the results you're getting. Obviously if you're testing a Harry Potter magic wand, using flash paper, you'll not produce a jet of flame capable of traveling a reasonable distance or doing any real damage to a person, because you're producing a very heavily scaled down version of that.

You should look into how roman candles work and just make them user ignited instead of igniting all in one go.
Alos, doesn't Gandalf shoot fire out of the bottom of his staff? Maybe a staff would work better for a future project once resources are available. And he used pinecones he set on fire I think. Come to think of it Gandalf was more of a trickster old hippie than an actual wizard

I've made low tech wands that shoot out glitter. Certainly doesn't make for an effective weapon, but I think that's as close as you'll get to replicating the magic effect in real life.

For instance. I learned a tiny bit of Chinese and know almost nothing. But I do know that in Chinese they have, if I remember right, 3 words for "can".
One that means to be allowed to, having the right to do it.
Another means you have the ability, the knowledge to do it.
The third is the availability, whether one can or can't commit time to the activity for example due to travel limitation or just prioritization.
Just thought it was funny, I was wondering if the same allusion would be as subtly possible in Chinese. It probably is but the method should be different.
How can you make an allusion with intonation just using the same word twice that has multiple different application depending on context when that language has multiple words for each of those applications?

Should've added some copper salts or something. If you can't get the fluid dynamics to work in your favour, at the very least, lame green fireballs are less lame than lame regular fireballs

Maybe you'd have more luck making a Lumos wand? You couldn't really do your normal weapon tests then, but at least a really bright light wouldn't be something you "can't" do.
You certainly "can" do it... If Jeorg Sprave can do what he does, then you "can" do what you're thinking. If Hacksmith can, you can also find ways around the "can't" part... I think.
nah various parts of Australia can be VERY strict when it comes to anything the shoots projectiles so it's generally not worth the risk, cause if word gets out and the cops in that state deem it to be classified as a firearm they could get in a lot of shit.
Wands needs to be redesigned.
It should have a grip handle, faster projectiles, and a mechanism for loading several projectiles.
and maybe also call it a more official name, like "guard's automatic neutralizer" or something
