It was played on radio 1 when they interviewed jasper can't renumber which DJ it was but after playing Funky Moped he flipped it over and played the Magic Roundabout live on air.

Jasper Carrot. Class act and this is top of the class. It sold on the other side...Funky Moped, which was quite funny too. Been a fan of Jaspers for well over 40 years!
Thanks for posting! Have been looking for this for decades! I grew up in the West Midlands but moved in 1983 when I was 7. No one in the States would ever really get this humor. My dad had this and a few other Jasper Carrot performances on cassette and was always listening to them.
Pleased you found it here Dave, This came straight from DJM records during my D.J.days in 1975, I was doing Butlin's for the whole season, I played this often and so many people wanted to know what it was, as I got it before it came in the shops, it felt like I almost got it in the charts personally as the word got around. I seem to remember that 'Funky Moped' was the 'A' side because the BBC would never have played the record if 'Magic Roundabout ' had been so. Ah the wonderful days of innocence and Mrs Whitehouse!
I grew up on this as a kid in England. I particularly remember puppet shows like Four Feather Fours and Andy Pandy. It was rumored that the Magic Roundabout was the product of an acid trip. "Who knows?' said Zebedee, "Time for bed" Boing, or is it Bong!
Magic Roundabout was originally a children's program on French television. Eric Thompson wrote the English narration which had nothing to do with the original French, and IMHO may well have been the product of an acid trip.
Lord knows how I heard about this when I was about 11 or 12 but having two older brothers probably had something to do with it. Those were the days when people had to buy vinyl to get new comedy. Before you knew it I was listening to Monty Python, Cheech and Chong and that long-forgotten Blaster Bates.
Well! I've never heard this except for being quoted - the quote being "I wonder if Florence is a virgin?" I can see why the BBC played "Funky Moped" instead lol. Thanks for uploading!
Purchased for this side of course,I got mine as soon as it was released, sent to me free by the record company to promote and it of course got very positive results when I played it regularly at Butlins (adult disco) of course : ) 1975.
This is the first ever 45 I ever bought. For funky moped ! cost me 75p. Didn't realize this was on the B side until I played it & heard the "Rude" word.

Someone in Germany when I was in the forces. Asked uncle Dave on BFBS forces radio to play magic roundabout on childrens hour. And he started to play it. Bet you can’t guess what bit it got to when it came off quick.
I still have this single. The A side was Funky Moped, but I think what sold the record was this classic B side. In fact this may have been a double A sided single because both tracks were listed together on the charts according to my hit singles books I have.
No "funky moped" was the officially released single A side. Magic Roundabout became popular with the DJ's who played it a lot instead of the A side, hence helping with the sales of Funky Moped.
Mike Harding did a similar routine about "defrauding the insurance man"... I used to have a double LP of his act... It's a very old fashioned reminder of what it used to be like...

Four Feather Falls (with Nicholas Parsons !)

Four Feather Falls: early Gerry Anderson, music by Barry Gray, songs sung by Michael Holliday.
