  • This is footage of my 100 mile race. Raw and shaky which is ironic as thats how I felt.
An epic race as all 100's are. The North Downs Way 100 mile race organised by Centurion Running starts at Farnham, Surrey and covers 102.9 miles ending at Ashford, Kent.
This is my second time running this so had some good experience from last year and as I train on the North Downs Way no issue with the terrain. Although there isn't loads of elevation, compared to say a mountain race, the course is broken up into small climbs, steps, gates, urbanscapes and overgrown narrow uneven paths with brambles and stinging nettles. It's hard to get a rhythm going and saps concentration.
This time I suffered with a cold and fever so just bad bad timing. For me unless bed ridden you've committed and trained hard to get to this day. So I gave it a go...
Gutted about the shaky footage - I hate go pros - battery life is shite and for some reason the stabilisation didn't work.

Thanks Adam, for taking the time to record and edit this video. It serves as a great reminder of the experience for some and a valuable source of information for those thinking of attempting the race. And well done for managing to complete it in a respectable time with the handicap of a cold!

Great account - well done. Have this in 3 weeks time and this was just the inspiration I needed 👍

Just watched your video and found it very useful for what to expect of the terrain. My wife and I have signed up for the NDW100 this August. Looking forward to an attempt at our first 100. Subscribed and thanks 👍

Very useful video, I used it to learn parts of the course for my 1st NDW 100 attempt last year, unfortunately only made it to Wrotham, but I will be back this year, covid permitting to try again! Thank you for the video :)

Awesome vid! I approve of the music choice for motivation. Find it helps massively when running alone for hours. Well done 👍

Great video and congratulations on your amazing achievement. As the saying goes I cannot fly and I cannot run further than a marathon distance but I did just complete a walk on the North Downs Way from Farnham to Dover (via the Canterbury loop) and know how hilly some of the sections are.

Hi mate, without any rain or wet conditions on course would a road shoe with decent tread and grip be ok on the NDW100? Taking on my first 100 miler this year at NDW 100 and considering running in the Hoka Clifton, any advice?

Thanks for the film! Congratulations to a great run :). Beautiful but very scary. I'm up for this year and besides worrying about many other things (wil my body fall apart, all the steep hills, steps, all the stressful cut-offs, will I fall asleep during the night etc.), I fear the cold, especially when you sweat, are tired, walk slowly, sit down etc. You mentioned you were cold. Would you say it was the same weather when you did it is this year? Did you wear extra jumper, gloves during the night? Thanks!

Excellent video. well done! Just a quick question from St Martha's church to Reigate Hill, is there any water tap? or anywhere i could top up my water flaks? I would like to do a recce of that section as it seems the NDW100 is still happening. I live near Brighton so I'll have to leave my car in Reigate, catch a train to Chilworth and then run from there. Any advice would be very welcome amigo

Hi Adam, I am running the NDW 100 again this year (2020). I had a DNF on 2019, got to detling and just called it off, which was a dumb decision as I could have finished and there was nothing majorly wrong with me. Did a bit of soul searching afterwards and wondered if I was made of the right stuff for a 100 miles. Saying that I finished the Spine Challenger just over a month ago, which had a big DNF rate (120 started, 50 finished), so it seems there might be hope for me still. I honestly don't know how the NDW100 will go for me this year, but one thing will be for sure, I will be more experienced then I was in 2019.
