    Great video dude. And that's very eye opening. I've wanted to get an SOC knife but not after hearing about what you dealt with. Replacement parts is a must, especially in that price range.

      Hey thanks! Yeah unfortunately I love the knives but at the price point, having the ability to repair it is kind of a must. Thanks for the kind words!

    That sucks. I bought a jcape 3.5 final run. Knife was alright but it got marked shipped and over a week later still wasn’t dropped off to the post office for 500 dollars I want it ASAP lol with reate starting to have qc issues more and more often kinda sketchy there’s no parts

      For sure! It’s a tough pill to swallow especially when there are US makers with great CS at a similar price point. Thanks for the comment!

    I had a trade offer on my mcnees3.5 for a jcape v3.5 and I’m glad I passed on it now. I LOVE my mcnees. It’s been in pocket every single day almost the last 6 months.

    I had tried vero but the synapse I bought had consistent lock failure. Spine whack would easily fail the lock and it would happen time to time with just normal use. Not cool

    • @the_pointy_end
      @the_pointy_end  Před 8 měsíci

      I think across the board, from what I’ve seen, Reate is starting to have a bunch of QC issues. Hopefully you were able to get out of that Vero!

    • @joiryde1328
      @joiryde1328 Před 8 měsíci

      Vero uses Bestech , and it sounds like you got an extremely rare flaw in a product . There synapse especially the XL is one of the sturdiest folders you can buy

    • @BrOkEnSkAtEr1295
      @BrOkEnSkAtEr1295 Před 5 měsíci

      @@joiryde1328nah man, not a fluke. I bought one a little less than a year ago. Had to send it back twice to get it fixed by vero and they ended up replacing it. First time for a blemish on the blade where the coating literally came off and the second time for lock rock. I had the all black variant of the synapse with fat carbon scales and timascus parts, the most expensive variant. Veros customer service is excellent and quick. I wish I could say the same about their knives. Ended up trading the synapse. It’s like the companies that charge the most for knives have the shittiest QC.

    It’s all true, but the reason why it’s because SOC knives are a 1 time production knives, there’s no more batches coming…
    Basically he places the order for certain amount of knives and that’s all they’re making of that model and version, now… I do think he should order extra parts to keep in stock for warranty issues, broken blades or damaged scales, but I don’t know how Reate manufacturing works and the the contract between the 2 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @BrOkEnSkAtEr1295
    @BrOkEnSkAtEr1295 Před 8 měsíci

    Felix runs the business by himself I believe so that explains the lack of parts and what not however, I can agree with you on this, after having spent over 2k on this brand, I’m actually very disappointed with them. I love the design on my J capes but my 3.5 has the same issue with the lock bar. I can rattle the blade back and forth while it’s closed and it drives me insane. It’s a $500 knife… I’ve got a kizer that’s less than half the cost, cpm20cv, titanium and carbon scales and everything about it is worlds better than my 3.5.

    • @the_pointy_end
      @the_pointy_end  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I definitely understand the one man operation argument but nothing precluded him from ordering a S ton of spare parts from Reate when these were manufactured… it is just frustrating when you can’t get any parts to repair a knife you spend so much money on. I’m starting to suspect people that carry SOC knives don’t actually use them 🤨

    • @BrOkEnSkAtEr1295
      @BrOkEnSkAtEr1295 Před 5 měsíci

      You’re 100% right, i feel like it was a move to try and save money and maximize profits. Shit I repair coast guard boats for a living, use my 3.5 on the daily, and I can certainly agree with you. As a hard use knife it falls short, only because of your exact point. You can’t get parts. Although I will say, after carrying it in probably the worst environment for a metal object to be in, corrosion hasn’t been an issue, neither has edge retention. The action is still great despite the issue with the detent. Felix now has more employees and I also got in contact with him about my knife and he referred me to Chris with Serpent Runs Customs as the go to guy for warranty and repairs. Let’s see how this goes lol, If I’m able to get a new lock insert I’ll definitely let you know 👍🏼

    I understand your problems and i just wanna say that sucks but we all knew we were buying a reate. Or at least i did. I always know what im getting when i buy a chinese knife.. Your taking a chance.. i do feel like reate should step up there warranty but felix can only offer what reate offers.. I try to only buy American (or South African) just for that reason.. its the only way to guarantee a knife.. But to your point I agree that if felix wants to charge that much for a reate (He definitely charges the most) That he needs to at least get extra parts machined so he can do warranty claims himself. .. You can buy a hinderer for less money.. Imo Hinderer makes the best knives for the price.. I love my mcnees too but my detent is def a touch light..not bad tho

    These small companions having knives OEMd in China are _super_ lucky most people dont actually use their knives.
    There's no way in hell they're commissioning any spare parts. Once they hit the 200 MOQ, its on to the next one...
    I try to stick to buying knives from actual knife makers, but my tastes dont align with the current trends whatsoever so thats probably easier for me to do than it might be for the average person currently in the hobby.

    I had people chew my ass and run me out of the SOC group because I had a brand new $600 blade from the factory with detent lash. Wanted to take months to fix it. I had a lot of people have the same thing and when I brought it up in the group employees went fucking crazy even sending me a DM. Not supporting anymore

      Shit dude like that? I’m in the group too, didn’t see that and I’m sorry you went through that dude. Honestly been thinking about putting SOC on blast cause of shit like this. Have you seen their flashlight? Apparently it’s an overpriced maaerxu flashlight. You can literally buy the same light from them with the slightest I mean slightest difference for $80 when SOC is over here charging over $200 for it. SOC has left a bad taste in my mouth needless to say.
