英語で稲妻の意味を持つレビン（Levin） は、2代目カローラの高性能バージョンとして1972年に登場。
足まわりを固め、FRP製オーバーフェンダー（後期型は金属製）を装着し、迫力を増したボディーが特徴である。
軽量コンパクトな大衆車のボディーに強力なエンジンという成り立ちから、モータースポーツでの活躍は目覚ましく、特に世界ラリー選手権(WRC）ではトヨタワークス初の総合優勝を飾り、また日本国内ラリーでもエントラントのほとんどがTE27型レビンで占められることもあった。
搭載される水冷直列4気筒DOHCエンジンは、1588ccの排気量から最高出力115ps/6,400rpm (グロス値)、最大トルク14.5kgm/5,200rpmを発揮し、最高速度は190km/hに達した。

Levin, which means lightning in English, appeared in 1972 as a high-performance version of the second generation Corolla.
The suspension is solidified, and an FRP over fender (late model is made of metal) is attached, and the body is characterized by increased power.
Due to the fact that it is a lightweight and compact mass car body and a powerful engine, it has been remarkably active in motor sports, especially at the World Rally Championship (WRC), which was the first overall victory of Toyota Works, and most of the entrants in Japan are TE27. Sometimes it was occupied by type Levin.
