    You two are a breath of fresh air, no clapped out multi-year re-build projects ( like the one in my garden! ), no clickbait titles, just quiet competence in a properly prepared boat. Inspirational, thanks for taking the time and effort to document your very interesting lives.

    Every winter, here in Cape Town, we track the storms approaching us all the way from S America! When they eventually hit they are often immensely powerful and invigorating, stirring up our shores and shifting sandscapes overnight. And here you brave sailors are rollercoasting into town like an ocean Tarzan swinging forth from one weather front to the next! Loved every minute of this😊

      IKR? I watch these videos and think of the skill and experience it takes to be able to take a sailing boat so far out from land in weather like this and still feel comfortable and confident. It truly is a special experience that is limited to the few adventurers who can sail the open ocean with confidence. At my age, the best I can hope for is to be a crew member on a journey like this and to learn. Much respect to these adventurous souls! You are living the life I dream of.

    Respect, that's what I have to say, as an oceancrossing sailer not afraid of bad weather, I know this is something different. I don't care beiing played by lots of wind and high waves, but doiing that in the cold. Brrrr. But now I also know that there is a challence waiting for me. Go on, you two show us, sailers, that there is a lot more adventure outside.

    @jimb6208 Před 3 lety

    I sailed aboard Pelagic Australis in 2006 on a trip from Puerto Williams to Punta Arenas, Chile. She is indeed a well built and capable vessel. However, on that sail we were a crew of about six people plus a captain and first mate who were both professional sailors. Even with plenty of hands to share the sailing, cooking, cleaning and related chores, Pelagic Australis is a handful to sail when the wind picks up. Approaching Punta Arenas the wind jumped to a steady 45-50 knots for an hour or so, which was the strongest wind I've ever experienced. With minimum fetch in the Straits of Magellan, the sea state was relatively benign -- I can't imagine what the conditions would be like onboard during your open ocean passage with similar wind strengths! You both did a great job handling the boat, that's for sure. Also, your camera work was wonderful and captured the essence of the Southern Ocean. Continued good luck and I look forward to following you both on more adventures.

    Sophie&Chris, have been watching/following various avid sailors (solo & couples), me being one for decades, and I must say I adore the way you two talk to each other! Chris, you have a very charismatic partner (Sophie) and great 'mathematician' to keep you on track. Learning from your every words. Have subscribed in order to be updated with your amazing adventures. All the very best to you!

    I read your article regarding this great voyage "I thought back to my 12-year-old self, when I went sailing on the sea for the first time. Having only sailed on the Norfolk Broads before, I’d looked to my coach, Paul Whiteman, for reassurance as he held the transom of my Mirror dinghy. I whispered to him: “I haven’t sailed one of these before.” His hands let go and in his steady manner he replied, “It’s just the same.” Fantastic stuff, well done you two need to be inducted into the International Sailing Hall Of fame.
