“Suddenly you were gone, from all the lives you left your mark upon.” This was the first lyric that popped into my head when I heard that Neil died.😢
This song was written for a recording engineer the band had worked with who was killed in an accident. It's on Grace Under Pressure an album Steve Lillywhite was slated to Produce but backed out of at the last moment to Produce The Crossing for Big Country.
A very underrated track from am underrated album. I think this song also expresses the anger one feels from a sudden loss, something that is not recognized enough. The anger one feels towards oneself for not being able to prevent it, anger towards oneself and those around you for having the priviledge of 'being alive' while that priviledge has been denied someone that should have lived, anger because you should have appreciated the time together more, looking for someone or something to blame, it is a horrible experience. I went through it twice, the shock of the sudden traumatic death of my closest friends. I am glad Rush wrote a song that confronts this very different side of loss.
What a great decade, Rush in the 80's. So diverse, lots of musical styles.
This whole album is underrated. Came out when I was a junior in high school. Yes they were influenced by The Police and U2 during this period. Neil inspired me to grow my own tail. It was down to my butt before I finally cut it off. I still have dreams I’m growing it back. LOL
The power that Peart played with on full display here. He is beating those drums like they owe him money:)
Love this song!
He got it, Sir Jay!🤣🤣🤣🇬🇧🏴☠️🏴
Thanks for reacting I appreciate it 😌 ❤
Great song from Grace Under Pressure. 🤘🎶💜
...and yes, good on you for requesting this great song, Mr Dobson! 😊👍
A song I like from one of my favourite Rush albums, although one I think the band didn't look back on too fondly as they had a difficult time with their new producer. Lyrically it marks Neil Peart's growing maturity in approaching more grown-up themes. Rush were very influenced by The Police around this time, but the influence didn't run the other way. Rush weren't on The Police radar, except as representatives of the kind of band the new wave was trying to overthrow, although I think Neil Peart and Stewart Copeland became friendly later in life.
I had a tail back then too.
It always seems to me that at the end of this video Neil is remembering his friend (recording engineer) that died unexpectedly in a car accident during recording of this album
Cant wait for my Michael Hutchence request ❤😊
From thier Grace Under Pressure album !
One of my top favourites. ❤🇨🇦🔥
This song and Red Sector A have a whole lot of musical similarities.
Good track from this great band, I can definitely hear influence from 'The Police' in this particular song.
"Suddenly you were gone" - Very sad that Mister🍐t's own lyrics would apply to himself eventually 😞
