    As an American, in defense of Mrs. Simpson’s Maryland Fried Chicken, may I insist that there can be no comparison between over-breaded, over-salted, over-cooked fast food fried chicken and a delicately seasoned, prudently breaded, scalded , homemade Southern fried chicken.

      @@wintercomesearly Thank you. Chicken is the most affordable protein and mocking it is just vulgar. Most folks can't afford the more expensive cuts of beef these days. For a "cooking chef" to do so was not nice.
      If she was trying to sound "elegant" she failed. She sounded snooty.

      @@bellakatherman1477 I have a HUGE kitchen, with a cathedral ceiling and tons of countertop space, pots & pans, (Not nearly as old of course), and I LOVE COOKING! ESPECIALLY Wild Game. These shows are interesting, & most of the recipes sound really good. I DO have to laugh at the pronunciation of many of the AMERICAN words. MARYLAND... The Y is silent, AS IS THE T FILLET, It's pronounced like,( FILLAY).. Before you ask. YES, I AM A CHEF, HOWEVER, I got my start cooking for my VERY LARGE FAMILY. In the West Virginia Mountains,at the age of 9. We had my Grandparents, their 13 kids & Spouses,all my cousins, & my own siblings 6 of them! And MORE PEOPLE I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW! That "FRIED CHICKEN", WAS HORRIBLE LOOKING! Southern Fried Chicken, is NOT BATTER DIPPED! My Grandfather was the most EXCELLENT COOK I EVER SAW, He , my Father,, (He taught my mother how to cook). I DO BELIEVE, what makes me laugh the hardest in the British Language, is their alphabet. The rest of the world is from A, to Z. British says, A to ZED... PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THAT IS ??? 🤣🤣

    For those of us who were scarred by her diss of chicken. Here is the ACTUAL recipe of one of Princess Diana's Prince Harry's, and Prince William's favorite Roasted Chicken By Royal Chef Darren McGrady enjoy:
    Darren’s five simple steps for nailing the perfect roast chicken every time are as follows:
    Heat the oven to 220°C (gas mark 7).
    Take the chicken out the fridge and pat it dry with paper towels.
    Sprinkle all over with salt - but no fat or oil should be used.
    Place on a cooling rack on a baking sheet so the air can circulate underneath it.
    Cook in the oven for 1 hour, never turning. After an hour, a 2 1/2 - 4 pound chicken will come out ‘absolutely moist and perfect on the inside and crispy on the outside.’

      If you're used to working for the Royals and in high and fine dining, fried chicken probably isn't on your menu. How many people NOT from the South would eat liver, gizzard, etc with the same excitement as Anna? I certainly wouldn't.

      @@taffykins2745 British cooking is miserable. We spend a month a year in the UK and I have a few special places that are good. Such as a ka-bob place in Aberdeen. And a place in Paisley that has good haggis. Their "pizza" is cardboard with tomato soup and dry cheese. Awful! They still boil meat. I start and end each trip with a quick trip to France for real food.

    What a great video! I was so intrigued that the eggplant is called aubergine in the UK. We grow it in our gardens and make eggplant dressing, with sauteed ground beef and rice. I loved watching this, as my mother and father were both wonderful cooks and I inherited that from them.

      Ooo I do an eggplant, ground beef and rice dish, but I do it sautéed with onion, red peppers, Worcestershire sauce (don’t be shy with it) and bit of garlic it’s so simple and SO good

      ​ @Anna Rushlau I always put garlic in any ground beef recipe (we are French and put it in everything!) and I saute the garlic, onions and green bell peppers in my eggplant recipe, too! I have never put Worcestershire in it and I don't know why I haven't since my son and I put it on everything - seriously - everything! You sound like an awesome cook, Anna! (that was my grandmere's name!)! Thank you for your comment! I'm going to use red peppers and Worcestershire in mine when I make it next time!

      @@fabmothernature7324 i have seen darren mcgrady's interviews. I felt he wasnt disrespectful. Afterall Lady Diana herself admitted to her condition at that time & showed how she overcame it. Bulimia can be dangerous. I have a friend who has bulimia but is in denial -and I worry for her. I wish people will be open about bulimia - it is a form of mental illness ( so help & support is needed) but people still hate talking about it openly. I feel the more it gets glossed over the worse it becomes for people who suffer from it.

I wish people would let Diana rest. It’s good to publicize mental health issues but I prefer trained professionals because it’s an extremely sensitive topic and can be triggering.

    great video as usual, but i wonder why she strained the rødgrød? That is not usually done in Denmark where i live now (or in Germany, where this dish was also very popular when i grew up there, Rote Grütze in German). In both countries you just leave the berries in and it's cooked until thickened. The Danes serve it with cream, as shown here, in Germany it is often served with cold vanilla custard. As Alexandra was danish, i would assume she'd leave the berries in as we do?
    Or are there records that they strained it, so as to avoid fruit bits between ones teeth? Maybe that was seen as unacceptable back then?

    Your comment about the fried chicken going well after a night of drinking is really a Caribbean thing - a meal of fried chicken with French fries (chips) with ketchup and hot sauce. Funny you should say About Duke of Windsor being sent to the Bahamas - I’m a Bahamian watching your program. I am addicted to your show!!!

      Millions of people have fried chicken every week and NEVER HAVE HAD AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK IN THIER LIVES! For you to flatter yourself is pathetic. I lived in the Bahamas for 10 years and we got FROZEN chicken from the USA. And frozen, lamb from New Zealand. And rum raisin Ice cream from Nassau. Depending on what the mail boat delivered. Or what our single pilot brought from the mainland. The only thing we grew on our patch was coconuts and limes. Local gardens were not effective; way too sandy and had to be enriched.

      @@celestialskye1 yes! The burners are fired and lit till kitchen closes up. It goes back to old school kitchens with wood/coal stoves. Even when compact gas stoves started hitting the market, large professional kitchens still held on to their old school stoves. They where built like a beast. They also stayed consistently hot without wasting pricy gas.

    The 'rødgrøt" was made wrong of course. She should have been using more potato flour to thicken it a lot more. It should be almost as thick as porridge, but not quite. Like a compote. 😇😊

    Madeira used to be a far more popular wine than it is today. This is why it's often used more in cooking than drinking, it is a frequent ingredient in older recipies and has become associated with cooking. As a fortified wine, it was one of the few old world wines that would survive crossing the atlantic. Indeed an unopened bottle could remain drinkable for centuries, whilst an opened one might survive decades so long as flies and other undesirebles are kept out of it. A few fun facts about Madeira, it was a bottle of madeira that was used at the christening of the USS Constitution, it was served at the inauguration of George Washington, and was used to toast the american decleration of independance

    These all look fabulous ... my only “gripe” would be the Alexandra berry dish ... if the lady who was making it ADMITTED it was too thin and the texture wasn’t right ... why wasn’t it DONE right so we could have seen what it SHOULD have been like ?

    Michael Great Consort series ! Love love love Chef Haugh !!! It is difficult to talk while concentrating on some recipes, and she does it so easily. She is a great teacher. I do wish however, that the Chefs would give exact measurements.

    WE had a morning dish like Princess Alexandra:s rodgrod but it was served over tapioca. My grandmother:s name was Dagmar and she was born in Denmark in 1897. It was a treat when we stayed over at Granny:s.

    I love Madeira port........grew up on it and definitely cook with it. Bon dia olive oil is also Portuguese, and very pungent and flavorful.

      No really, my grandmother had some and we used them the same as any pots. Cream is whipped easier in a copper bowl. The copper pots are beautiful!
