Yes yes
A misguided child was broken, beaten, and neglected by the very people that were supposed to protect and grown him.
Yet it is video game's fault.
Great job people
Great job

The media is scummy for this one

I know
This is actually awful
Agreed
Always have been Connor
The media is always scummy lol, you just noticing now?
The school is somehow worse
-knew the kid was troubled
-Had kids who are aware of his threats to social media
-had drew guns
-Publically said the thoughts in his head
-and was even caught searching up ammunition on his phone
The school: Nothing.
Apparently the school called the parents in for a meeting and basically said you need to get the kid help before he can return but ultimately let him go back to class because "there was no present threat at the time." The school official who let him back to class should be charged as well if the parents are being charged since they could have stopped it.
Country: mental health is an issue in this day and age
People: what are you gonna do about it
Country: absolutely nothing and use video games as a scapegoat
-School knew the student was troubled
-School ignored the many signs
-Parents were careless
-Both did neither to prevent this
"Why would video games do this?"
Weak cop out that's why.
Why even have kids if you're not going to monitor what they do?
This people be like: I can't believe Mario killed my dog 😢
tails is disappointed with their recent decisions
@Soviet Snake I was gonna say that
How about we blame it on how the school was aware of the threats yet did nothing.
I love how schools only get involved with things they want to. I remember yelling at someone in the hallway when I was in high school because they were getting on my nerves, and I was given 1 week of in school suspension...for yelling at someone! A kid brought a lighter to my school and was lighting it at random people in the hallway, the school knew about it, did nothing.
I kid you not, someone allegedly brought a gun onto my school campus, the administration tried to downplay it, and count people absent who chose not to attend school the following day. The school administrators are just as sick as the active shooters in my opinion.
Schools only care about money
A kid made a bomb threat at a school near me and still goes to the school, he said he had a list of people that he wanted to take out.
Reminds me of my high school, a kid said he WAS going to stab his bully, the staff and students knew and told the principal, and after the stabbing SHE DEFENDED HIM by saying it was self defense when it was obviously premeditated
Blame the parents!
Agreed one of my friends brought a gun to my school nd dropped it outta his bookbag causing a lockdown and a large group of police appeared in my school
“Videos games caused him to do it” so why are the other millions of children not doing the same?
The sad thing is that they only mentioned the Christmas Parade massacre in Wisconsin once or twice when it was found that the media was responsible for the driver's intention. It hurts even more by calling it an "accident" or "car crash" saying the driver was fleeing from police when there was eyewitnesses saying the driver was idle in his car then revved up and drove in... Man I'm just sick of how the media portrays these situations to get blood of these hands...
The person responsible for the parade massacre was not a white male. Therefore does not fit media narrative.
GTA caused it …. Surprised media didn’t go with that.
Ah yes the age old classic of: “It’s video games fault for this” and not the fact it was choice in it’s entirety. Plus his parents were just as guilty for their role in this horrific event.

Yea, so was Kira Yoshikage.
Nah, Kira was always messed up
My name is Yoshikage Kira. I’m 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don’t smoke, but I occasionally drink. I’m in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning.
I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I’m trying to explain that I’m a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn’t lose to anyone.

“All kids deserve parents, but not all parents deserve kids”
All games deserve kids, not all kids deserve games
In things like this, it hurts when the parents KNEW red flags then don’t actually help them, and some parents shouldn’t give some of their kids games, at least teach them human decency, teach them respect, make sure they’re ok, make sure they’re happy, cuz taking care of your child well is the most important thing for a child’s life, but no, it’s the video games cuz the parents failed to support their child properly and give love and care.

Its a scapegoat. Nobody wants to blame themselves for tragedies, so the look for other things. Since some video games are “violent” it’s easy to point the blame.
This is why it’s so hard to watch the news nowadays. It’s hard to find a source that has a neutral point of view. Or that isn’t exaggerating or changing the story to milk more Content out of viewers. I can’t wait for Oppy world to go up online and fulfill your goals. Especially the one where you’re going to add lots of credible news sources.

The school was aware of the threats and chose to ignore it.
If the parents are to be charged for involuntary manslaughter for buying the weapon used, then the school *must also be charged* for facilitating an environment that creates kids like this. Even the nicest most normal kid can become a monster if you're pushed hard enough. Bullying is an infinitely bigger issue then the video games.
But action won't be taken because people don't take responsibility for their actions but instead blame something else, but why not blame something else that's popular because it gives entertainment

woah man that's a very far stretch
"Seize this man! He's gone insane!"
STOP SAYING FACTUAL STATEMENTS!!!!
It's appalling indeed, this whole situation:
1 - They exploit a tragedy, juicing it for views til it goes dry.
2 - They make the shooter, the very person who took several lives and thraumatized even more kids (probably even adults), seem like a figure who's been pushed into this, almost to the point of portraying him as heroic and sane, as if being bullied justified putting bullets in people's heads.
3 - They blatantly skip over the fact every figure (except the school) didn't see anything wrong with a kid searching for ammo, especially mid-class.
4 - They refuse to blame the people who are to blame, recurring for the billionth time to publicly blame videogames, when literally any article that isn't to give traction to disproven ideas clarifies how (at most) a child can feel temporarily distressed over contents unfit for their age. Ofc, most people believe that and in turn go as far as oppressing gamers, especially children (I know too well how parents have gone as far as entirely prohibiting videogames due to these flawed beliefs, and this happens in european countries where there isn't nearly as much school violence, too, and even adults have been pestered quite often because they play videogames).
TLDR: The news beat around the bushes, don't address the issue, refuse to put the blame on people, organisms, or laws that don't work, and encourage dumping the mess on what many of us young people have grown up with and currently enjoy as a hobby (videogames), causing everyone who doesn't understand videogames don't cause violence to actively interfere with that hobby, especially if you're under 18.
P.S.: They also miss on the fact videogames are age rated for a good reason, which is so parents buy games fit for their children! I mean, I've seen how ESRB (which I believe still functions in the US iirc) rates games, and their work is great at the rating games recieve, being pretty concise and all. I don't know if content pictograms (such as Fear, Discrimination, or Substance usage) are used like PEGI does, but the age pictograms are very well done, to the point even a drooling imbecile should tell which game is fit for which age. These problems could have all been wiped off the board over a decade ago, but parents still seem unable to learn you don't buy an M/AO game to a ten year old if you feel concerned about their mental health. Oh, and no offence, but I tried to reason with these people all throughout my life, doing many different approaches, and they cling to their argument as if it was a lifeline, bet they wouldn't drop it even if it was a red-hot iron bar cause they're some really stubborn knuckleheads, even with their children.
TLDR 2: Electric Derpaloo: If you see an inappropiate age rating for your kid, don't buy the game and don't whine if you do and it looks too violent.
Even then the school administrators are still at fault because they didn’t suspend him or anything. They didn’t address the threats and hire more security. They literally didn’t even do the bare minimum!
You know tldr is supposed to be short right? not longer than your orignal main message.
Mark Foster, the front man of Foster the People, said something really good about this issue when talking about their song, Pumped Up Kicks. This is taken from the Wikipedia page for the song:
"Foster said in a statement to CNN Entertainment, 'I wrote 'Pumped Up Kicks' when I began to read about the growing trend in teenage mental illness. I wanted to understand the psychology behind it because it was foreign to me. It was terrifying how mental illness among youth had skyrocketed in the last decade. I was scared to see where the pattern was headed if we didn't start changing the way we were bringing up the next generation.' In writing the song, Foster wanted to 'get inside the head of an isolated, psychotic kid' and 'bring awareness' to the issue of gun violence among youth, which he feels is an epidemic perpetuated by 'lack of family, lack of love, and isolation.' "
My respect towards him skyrocketed when I heard this.
@@krustykrew106 I don’t think the last part is part of the TLDR
Problem is you need to have an id for m rated games you’re parents could just go in and buy it for their kids with no mention of having kids
Next up: News Media blames Kerbal Space Program for the Space Station crashing into Earth.
“I am become death, destroyer of worlds” didn’t even originate from a video game, it’s a quote from J. Robert Oppenheimer.
I played GTA 5 when I was 14. I'm 22 now and I can confidently say I have never tried to car jack people or have a shootout with the police.
This in itself is evidence. Enough to argue it in court. The more likes this gets, the more you prove them wrong. It's common sense.
I played grand theft auto 5 when I was a 3 years old and I never in my entire lifetime have I ever tried to car jack people or commit police genocides like I did in gta.
A teacher caught the kid buying ammunition on his phone and didn’t notify the authorities? I mean that is the biggest red flag you can get regarding potential school shooters and they ignored it.
I mean purchasing ammunition is not a red flag. Making constant threats about causing violence (while also browsing for ammunition) is a red flag.

I never like blaming kids for horrible actions like these. The real fault are the parents who failed to take them to therapy, parents who just let this all brew and do nothing and eventually turn into this. They failed their child.
The reason that school shootings only happen in America is because the American school system is extremely bad and stressful which makes kids want to do this.
Not really South Korea schools are more stressful. The problem it's easy to get guns and the need for better mental health programs or awareness
Most people make America look bad and make others see as if it's nothing but fast food, guns, ect.
Asking the MSM to actually do research and present the ACTUAL findings is asking for WAY too much, God forbid they do that little thing called "journalism". To them, it is always the fault of everyone except the actual people responsible
The "I am become death" quote was made by J Robert Oppenheimer in response to the creation and testing of the nuclear bomb. How do these pencil pushers not know simple history?

Thank you for not naming the shooter. It’s so common for news outlets and social media accounts to place so much attention on the shooter but this is actually a really bad thing. Not only does it give the shooter the attention he probably craves but it also emboldens other potential shooters to commit a similar crime after seeing how much attention they can receive from it. I appreciate that you’re being responsible about this.
People will blame these tragedies on anything. Video Games, guns, etc. What we should really ask is why did that kid decide to do that horrible act. Obviously not video games, because then every kid these days would be doing these kinds of things. That's why we as people need to look out for each other, and parents need to check on their kids.
Exactly
Everyone is blaming everyone else but the gun
@@chiviak8234 *gun control
It's no surprise to see how they could get away with that. Like, I knew guns are used to protect yourself, but they shouldn't be sold freely and misused it to do horrible things.
Parents should take a responsibility for their kid's action, and I don't understand why boomers and medias always blaming it on anything else. They never learn, ya know, they never learn.
@@chiviak8234 it’s the parent’s fault
The parents got the gun like two days before the shooting. Imagine losing track of your brand new gun after two days.
Someone got shot in a movie theater parking lot yesterday in my community, I was in the same parking lot 2 hours before the incident.

Here we go again, It's always the video game's fault
This but unironically
It seems something about him changed a lot. Like all the "normal kid" footage is recorded like 4 years prior to his crime. I think there is something else here that the media should investigate.
Man I f@$king hate that they always Try to blame the games that we all at some point play
I literally wrote an APA research paper about this whole blaming video games for teen violence recently.
I've written so many papers on this topic, even my 9th grade final essay was on this topic and I argued that they didn't cause violence even though the sources that we were given stated the opposite.
I have as well and literally the studies I looked at couldn't find a correlation between video games and violence 😭
Like I would understand (not agree!) if they said a certain genre of music or person's music since some artists (usually rappers) do glorify/brag about killing people and all that, but even they chicken out and change their tune if they go to court for it 😂
Makes me cringe so hard that the news cast talks about the perpetrator’s love of video games as one of the reasons he did that school shooting and completely ignores his mental state or upbringing.
That’s like saying movies cause violence. Absolutely ridiculous.
The main issue is Mental Health. Countries like Japan have even worse Mental Health epidemics that lead to suicide. In the US we have a chain of Mass shootings because it’s become the trend, and the thing to do for infamy.
Let's not blame the parents here or you know THE KID WHO KILLED PEOPLE, let's blame the games he played, which were also played by the people he shot...
The classis has always been lets blame video games, bullying, and guns..
ITS PEOPLE FAULT
@@a-drewg1716 At least I get the bullying point to an extent. Perhaps we shouldn't go as far as blame them for getting murdered, though.
Video games have nothing to with someone getting killed
I called BS on that Inside Edition story the second I heard it.
Ok here we go:
1.)This was a (possibly) disturbed and (possibly) bullied individual who did not get the help he needed.
2.)His parents should have seen the signs and got him the help he needed.
3.) His parents bought their 15 YEAR OLD SON a gun.
Listen very closely: VIDEO GAMES DO NOT CAUSE VIOLENCE.
I could understand buying like a 16 year old kid a rifle for hunting, but it would need to be locked away and such. A handgun isn’t for hunting so why did they get him it
@@sethgrubb926 It actually was locked away. He broke into his father's room to get it.
I believe they got it only so that he could have some basic firearm experience, but he wanted it for much more sinister reasons than they thought.
pretty sure video games dose more like the opposite of teaching you violence
My brother in-law when I was in my early to mid teen playing his rated M games: “just because you do something in a virtual world doesnt mean it makes you a bad person in real life. Everything you do in these games is nothing compared to what you do in real life if you harm anyone” and basically guided me. My parents where chill about me and little sis playing rated M games because they knew we wouldnt do anything to hurt anyone
Optimus: "we have a dark and sinister topic at hand"
Also Optimus: *chill lofi music playing in the background*
Oh yeah, let's ignore bullying by faculty, staff and fellow students who are beating the person down emotionally, physically and mentally, harassing them for superficial reasons, because the bullies buys into collective punishment for said reasons, maybe bullying for political reasons and condemning for them, some are complacent of the bullying. There's no excuse for what the person did, but the motivation behind it were anything besides video games... should look at other things prior to what happened other than gaming, like bullying and harassment, and others doing nothing behind it, again, no excuse, but there were ways to intervene prior.
If it was video games, then the world would had destroy it long before now with nearly billions of gamers there are. I'm sure there were tragic events like this before games that were blamed on movies.
Edit: let's not forget bad parenting.
Any member of faculty or staff should be fired and banned from work in education if they helped facilitate the bullies or participated, because they clearly are not suited for teaching anyone.
Failing to provide support for victims of bullying is probably one of the leading causes of horrific events like this and it could have been prevented if the kid got the help he so desperately needed.
But I guess shifting the blame to Call of Duty and GTA seems more convenient than putting in work to make sure these things don't happen as often as they do.
I like how they choose to ignore the facts that he was probably going insane and instead just blame it on video games when most kids these days play them so it's easy to point it at video games
It’s the news, they can pin anything on anything, it’s so scummy.
It's Not VIDEO GAME FAULT
As someone who lives in the area this affected, other schools were closed and other people were scared. My school and some others in the district received fake threats from a man in Kentucky. Video games are not the reason. I play video games a lot and I personally don't see the problem. Its just news media trying to cover something that is false just for the sake of covering it.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!
That’s what I said lol.
Copy cat threats have been causing fear at my high school because of the shooting and we are 40 mins away from Oxford and half of my school has been showing up to school now, it’s horrible
More people have been showing up?
When I was in high school, we had so many shooting in bomb threats.
Combined, probably about 11 throughout 4 years. I genuinely surprised and glad it never happened. Not even the teachers were taken care of properly.
As a loner through most of high school, I’d say I turned out pretty good.
Unfortunately, bad things just happen. This whole Oxford thing could’ve and should’ve been prevented.
Why has America not done anything about this? This just keep happening, we talk sht, and the next week we just forget about it. Clearly America will continue to go down bad since 2016
Blaming it on his skin color would've made more sense at this point.
I live really close to that school, so we had school cancelled on Thursday and Friday, as well as on Monday. It’s really sad. My friend had a really good friend that went there, and she was one of the people that were shot.

This stuff is the biggest slap in the face to mental health instead of watching out for their children they decide to find false things to blame instead of working toward a solution
Funny. One of the FIRST things I learned playing GTA as a child was that committing crimes gave me stars, which eventually got me wasted.
I love how they say he’s a normal kid for playing outside with other kids when nowadays most kids are playing games and playing with there friends via online.
