    There's an implication that has never been resolved. In the first Zelda game you save the current Zelda. Then Zelda 2 takes place immediately after. You save Zelda's ancestor. What happens after that? There are two Princesses here. Does the original simply live a normal life in a new age, does the other Zelda step down to give her ancestor the crown? The personalities of both are unknown, so we can only guess what happens.
    Though this would give us an interesting bit of intrigue if they ever decided to continue the series with a Zelda 3. I doubt they would though, but its fun to speculate.

    High difficulty seems to polarise audiences. Zelda II lovers adore the game for its high combat difficulty whereas haters loathe it for the exact same reason. I wonder if a mentality for acquiring skill through discipline divides these players

    • @wearytaco1641
      @wearytaco1641 Před rokem

      I don't think it's all about discipline. I personally play games because life is hard and I need a break doing something that is not hard. So I usually put my games anywhere from normal to easy. I used to play on hard mode and legendary modes and stuff. But.... I just want to escape and live the fantasy world and enter a new role. But I definitely agree that the difficulty settings of games creates a polarization.

    Picking this game up with my parents after school from Toys R Us when it first came out is still one of my fondest memories as a kid. As me and my Dad spent so many nights playing this game. Well my Dad played and I watched. Well actually he played and I was his navigator. As me and my friends would discuss all the secrets undiscovered along with tactics we had to share. And being only 7 yrs. old at the time it was mostly our Dad’s or older brothers that were actually playing. But we absolutely loved watching our more experienced fathers and brothers make there way thru this cryptic game. And we didn’t have the internet for aid. At best we had school yard word of mouth coupled with Nintendo Power, Nintendo’s Gaming Guide and Electronic Gaming Monthly. And it was awesome. Getting thru this game with my Dad as a kid is still one of my favorite childhood memories. The only other game I spent hours upon days playing with my Dad as a kid was Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. Another game that I have very fond memories both picking and playing with my Dad as a kid.
    Man I used to love going to Toys R Us’s gaming section back in the late 80’s with my Dad. As I always knew that we were definitely bringing one of those little paper slips up to the the gaming counter to redeem our game. Great times! And a wonderful game!

When the second came out I BEGGED my parents to get it but all the stores were sold out. We went to New York and saw it in a store there for like 75 dollars and they got it for me. I beat it eventually - loved the game and maybe it’s rose colored glasses but I don’t get the hate for it.

      dollores, I disagree about it being the best, even though I liked so much about it. It did set the stage for so many future innovations that gamers love and adore. For instance the expanded sword skills from twilight princess would never have existed without inspiration from the excellent combat system of Zelda II.

    I enjoyed Zelda 2 a lot. I beat it when I was in the 5th grade. I never really got into the Zelda games after Zelda 1 and Zelda 2. The games in the 16-bit era and beyond were simply too complex. The same can be said about Metroid. I liked Metroid on the NES, because it was simple and easy to understand. But on the SNES and afterwards it was just too complex and wasn't fun.
