Ok, I'm a fan of a lot of classical music myself, but come on. Don't just listen to someone diss something you like and call them "anti-intellectual." All you're saying is that only the music you like is "intellectual" and everything else isn't, which only proves their point about classical music fans being pretentious asshats. And honestly, a lot of them are.

@SM Wasi The tweets were mostly targeting classical music fans on the internet, not the music itself or at least not only the music itself. Their point is that some people tend to make classical music out to be more complicated than it is while completely ignoring the complexity that does exist in many forms of modern music. It's not "complicated = bad," it's "acting like your favorite genre is the only genre that has depth or nuance is annoying."

That's such a stupid statement that k pop fan made. Does she know all classical musicians and classical music fans? K pop fans are so vicious, stupid and nasty all at the same time - hating on a K pop idol and looking for every reason to attack him or her just because they are a 'rival' to his or her own k pop idol.
Just look at the recent Kris Wu case.
Those who already hated or disliked him before those accusations, and who love another k pop star all jumped to take advantage of those accusations against him, labeling him a 'rapist' and 'paedophile' just on the mere basis of accusations and news reports which
      a) do NOT amount to EVIDENCE
      b) warrant caution all the more because of the public personna of the accused.
No matter how much one tries to reason with them that ACCUSATIONS do NOT EQUAL to EVIDENCE or TRUTH, they simply make their stupid comments in response, like one would expect of the typical k pop fan girl.
Those who love him simply assumed that he is innocent just because he is Kris Wu.
Of course there were his former fans who now dislike him, but they left the fandom only out of their self-preservation, not because of any moral fibre they have.
As for me personally who is neither a diehard fan nor an anti-fan of Kris Wu, my take is that because anyone can make up any accusations, especially of sexual assault or rape, (where the evidence is mostly circumstantial evidence rather than physical or real evidence, save for a rape kit test where a forensic examination is carried out on the alleged victim), caution about such accusations are absolutely warranted. For example, I could make up an accusation that someone is bullying me just because I 'felt' offended about a comment, so likewise people can make up an accusation of 'rape' just because they want revenge or whatever other motive.
K pop fans are typically dumb, uncapable of reasoning and logic, toxic, mean and nasty, and evil at all the same time - not only do they have no redeeming qualities at all, but that they are total trash. They have both bad character and no brain at all. They don't even have half a brain but no brain at all. And no moral fibre.

Then after reflecting logically back on the tales and lessons from grandad, it suddenly sounds cool and interesting to me. Thinking back, probably my grandad may have felt the same when looking at me with my smartphone and PC skills. Yeah anything that felt easy to ourselves would sound like something impossible to the others that don't understand.
To me, smartphone and PC usage are basic and easy, then as that may come off as looking down on my grandad to him.

I really hate it when people make derogatory comments about Classical Music, such as these. 9 times out of 10, it's purely because of lack of education. Too often Classical Music is seen as pristine music for the wealthy, or boring, or only for old people. But there's so much intensity, and beauty, and emotions that come from classical. Just a year ago I made these sort of comments myself. But I wanted to improve my piano abilities and decided that classical music was the best way to do that. I found this channel and instantly fell in love. What I've learned is that there's something for everyone in Classical Music, and that I couldn't imagine my life without it now. So thank you TwoSetViolin. You've brought me so much happiness. :)))
Edit: Alright I'm back to this comment. Thank you all for mostly being respectful in the replies. That doesn't happen enough these days. Second of all, some people seem to think that the "lack of education" part comes of as "snobby," which I can definitely see. I didn't mean for it to be that way. What I meant is how classical music spreads into multiple eras, like Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary, and how there's so many composers to study and learn about. I just worded that all incorrectly, so sorry if it came off like that :/
Another Edit *(DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT I WROTE BEFORE, JUST READ THIS)* Okay my previously stated thoughts are kind of outdated, so don't pay them much attention. I'll try to word my current thoughts as best as I can: Similar to modern music, classical music is incredible and diverse in so many ways. With classical music being less mainstream though, it can take more time to learn to love it. Sometimes, people may just not carry the same level of appreciation as classical listeners and musicians. But when these people "insult" (It's a harsh word but I don't know what else to use) this form of art and expression we've grown to care so deeply for, we're likely to get defensive, which I think is where snobs and "elitists" come from. One side lashes out, the other lashes back. It's an awful cycle that shouldn't happen. It's okay to not like something, and it's okay to share your love for what you do like. But remember that everyone likes their own genre's of music. Hating on their preferred types won't change their opinion, but appreciating and respecting what others like might make them more open to what you have to say about what you enjoy.

IMO, if you come out of music school as a music snob, you did something wrong.
In high school, I was that person who was like "rap isn't music," but taking theory, history, and ethno classes in college just opened my eyes to how broadly we can define the term "music," and all the different things the western classical tradition might not call "music," but other cultures around the world do. Even pop music, for as much as we can joke about its relative lack of complexity, can be hugely important and impactful culturally, and is something many musicologists have heavily researched and written academic papers on. Same with KPop, Rap, etc. It can be (and has been) argued that every single sound could be defined as music in some way, to someone, and I think that's really, really cool.

Well, metal fans and metal musicians love classical music. There's even a subgenre called SYMPHONIC METAL, which I highly encourage everyone to check out (the bands Nightwish and Epica are a good place to start). Other subgenres that fans of classical music will enjoy are progressive metal, defined by its musical complexity and the technical proficiency of its musicians (I recommend, to start, Dream Theater and the amazing Australian band Ne Obliviscaris who has a violinist), folk metal (the band Eluveitie features tones of folk instruments like violin, whistle, hurdy-gurdy, harp, mandolin, bag pipes, etc.) and of course neoclassical metal (Yngwie Malmsteen) and metal covers of classical pieces ( for example, Shoshtakovich's string quartet).
PS. If you happen to read this and react to Nightwish, make sure you watch a video with their latest vocalist, Floor Jansen, or the most obsessive faction of their fans will find you and come for your throats. Don't worry, though, as someone who has been a Nightwish and Floor fan for about 20 years (and who actually prefers Floor), most of their fans are pretty chill and their music is incredibly worth it.

For example, A Fifth of Beethoven (written by the guy who composes music for Family Guy) used Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony as its base. And tell me you haven’t heard any genre that uses strings/orchestra outside of classical context, like the violin parts in Tony Toni Toné’s Anniversary, or Sisqo’s Thong Song. Heck, Imagine Dragons uses viola in their music, as do other modern acts.
Classical music in general deserves more credit.

I feel like to understand and appreciate classical music at its best, you need to know at least theory basics. You can obviously enjoy it without any specific knowledge, but to understand the story it tells, often you need to go deeper and grab informations about what it is. While, you're right, music with lyrics will give you a lot of clues for interpretation. Also the title : you can get straight the theme of a song, but with a piece called "menuet" or "sonata" you need to know what these forms are to have a little idea of what it can be. And I haven't even talked about the letters and numbers and composers'reference... It really takes some education to talk about it.

Then my school had choirs and people playing violins as “special classes” so i was very impressed and wanted to be a part of this community but alas no violin and am not trained before in basic choir by outside music school so the incharge music teacher strongly denied anyone who was interested but had no basic training/“talented” to be part of it.
I rmb being very bitter and dissapointed and quit piano all together cuz heck I never wanted to learn the piano in the first place, I rmb telling my mom I wanted to learn violin. But family already bought a piano (asian chinese fam go figure).
I actually took up piano back when I was older becuz of wanting to amend myself of a dark young musical past. I even took piano exams. But failed the practical exam which again, Im not sure was it cuz I am tune deaf or my piano teacher was teaching me new scales and melodies last minute the night before my exam which I never had the time to practice + playing for an external examiner made me so nervous my timing was all off. (who fails grade 2?!)
So yeah, that closes my piano history.
I guess Im just not musically talented and geniuses indeed are born not created🤔
Or I just have a string of discouraging asian parents and teachers. Which i will try my best not be one to my own kid 🙏🏻

Lately I've only listened to classical music. It's not because I think I'm better and more educated than other people. Classical music represents the way I can express my feelings more vividly and that I generally enjoy more than other music genres. This video and Brett's story about the Mahler 5th Symphony made me want to share something with the Twoset Community.
The other day I was listening to a cello concerto (probably the Elgar Cello Concerto) and my brother said "Uuugh I'm so tired of listening to violins and classical music playing. Is this all you listen to now?". He then throws the snob comment at me and asks me how can I listen to classical music.
My answer to this was very simple. Is it possible that after so many centuries of classical music, people won't find anything that they love? So many years, so many composers, so many different styles and stories behind it, is it possible that the people who tweeted that kind of nonsense are unable to establish a deep connection with just one piece?
I'm telling you, anyone who finds just ONE of these pieces will stop saying that classical music is for snobs...
