Tobey Maguire spent six months taking martial arts, weight training, and an intensive gymnastics programme in order to bulk up, look buff, and be able to match the lithe athleticism of Spider Man. And it took them over 150 takes, but Tobey really did catch that for tray, with the help of done adhesive and magnets I believe.

The second film in this series is still one of my favourite comic book movies.
The Tim Burton Batman films, Blade 1 and 2, X-Men 2 and the Raimi Spider-Man 2 seem to be severely overlooked in this age of the Marvel-verse and whatever DC are trying to do.

I remember seeing this in the theater as a kid, and the crowd absolutely erupted in applause and cheers. This was closely after 9/11, and New York had been shaken so deeply. The line:
"You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us."
still gives me chills to this day. RIP to all the lives lost that day, and peace to those who lived through it.

Exactly. Comedy shoved down your throat every second, after that nothing but awesome CGI fights which are pretty quick and over as soon as they start.
@@AutumnExplorer I agree. The original Spiderman trilogy had a good balance between comedy, fights and drama. A lot of scenes in some Marvel movies had moments where I feel like jokes really weren't necessary. NWH especially but it was a good movie overall.

This movie was a big help after 9/11. Ever since the World Trade Center fell, a lot of movies, shows, etc, were delayed, cancelled, or remade. This movie was impacted by it as well.
A lot of scenes, especially ones that had the Twin Towers in them, were redone or cut from the final movie. In fact, in the original poster, you can see the twin towers reflection in Spider-Mans mask

There's actually avery clever teaser trailer where Spidey actually catches some bank robbers in a helicopter and puts them in a web that spans the length between the two World Trade Center buildings, but after 9/11, they had to scrap that trailer. Enough time has passed from the tragedy, so they released it to CZcams, its actually a pretty clever trailer.

There was a theory that Norman wanted to take his life along with Peter's by having the glider stab both of them. That's why he wanted to grab Peter's hand

Not likely. Norman hated his other personality and knew Peter would dodge his glider with the help of his spider sense. He thought he could sacrifice himself to save Peter from the Goblin. And Norman succeeded.
HUGE SPOILERS from NWH! Don't read if you haven't seen the movie yet. You've been warned:
Unfortunately, the glider wasn't enough to kill both Norman and his Goblin personality since the serum made him immortal to an extent like his comic book counterparts. In NWH, Norman doesn't recall trying to kill himself. We the audience believe he got pulled from his timeline that branches off the original timeline in the Raimi Spiderverse. But it IS possible that the Goblin suppressed those memories of Norman trying to kill himself to save Peter and his loved ones because Norman remembers his son Harry being killed in Spider-Man 3. Goblin in control of Norman's body in using Harry against Peter wasn't a hallucination after all. Maybe he was alive this entire time after the fatal stab from his glider put him out for awhile. Therefore, Norman survived his own suicidal attempt and is alive in the original timeline where older Peter is from. Same can be said for Otto because the AI in the tentacles that controls him suppressed those memories of him sacrificing himself to destroy his fusion reactor to save New York in an act of redemption.

Harry isn't Hobgoblin. Both him and his dad are Green Goblin. There are multiple Hobgoblins in the comics and to my knowledge none of them are too closely connected to Harry and Norman.
When Peter mentioned that one of the spiders can change colors to blend in the environment like camouflage which is a reference and nod off to one of miles morales spider powers but during that time, that was before miles even existed in the comics, movies and other stuff

This movie was a global phenomenon because it was a huge hit in my country(India). I watched this movie when I was in 10th grade. Now I am a high school English teacher. Even now, the memory of watching this movie for the first time in a local theater has been etched in my brain. This movie is special for those who watched it when it first came out. So please treat this cherished memory with some respect. You can pinpoint the errors in the movie outside of youtube in your free time.

by now we're used to seeing spiderman swinging through the city in a live action movie, but this was the first one. it was truly mind blowing to see for the first time and still holds up today
X Men was always the beginning of film studios taking superheroes serious to me. Blade was successful enough, but not the same as X-men or Spider-Man (because of the violence)

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans need to bow down to Blade.
Marvel as a company was struggling because comic sales were severely low, so they sold a bunch of their characters to movie studios in an attempt to make money. Blade was a huge financial success, and in so doing, saved the company, and paved the way for the MCU. You guys should watch it if you haven’t already!

I dont know how many times i have watched this trilogy
This is not a film to be condescending about or treated like an outdated relic, it and its sequel are much much better than any MCU movie save perhaps the Guardians movies. It is made by a real director, not by committee. As for its effects they are fine - about as good or as involved as FX ever need to be. This film came out in the middle of the LOTR trilogy and like those was state of the art. Movies really don't need to ever have better vfx than this. Also like LOTR it was made by a visionary director who started out an 80s splatter horror film director - meaning they literally came up making their own special effects and envisioning specifically how to translate their visions thru practical effects. That's part of why cgi is used so well and so relatively sparingly in these two trilogies - the directors came up extensively using practical effects in extremely inventive ways.
I’d say they’re both easily better than the GOTG movies honestly all the mcu movies tbh haha. I still enjoy the mcu flicks but they got nothing on the first two Spider-man

I dunno. Iron Man, Civil War, Infinity War, and the first Avengers are all great films. And absolutely historic for the medium. Spider-Man 1 and 2 are great and have their place too, but there’s a good handful of MCU films that I feel surpass the two outright.

While everyone hates the new movies because of their excessiveness
Everyone loves this movie because of its simplicity
It's just better. Better storytelling, better direction, better writing, better casting. Raimi was a perfect choice for this story. It has exactly the right tone. MCU they all have to have the same tone. The kind of broad melodramatic but totally earnest weird tone of this trilogy would have no place in the MCU. For an idea of the difference, compare the show Smallville (wonderful) to that lame non-canon appearance by the same characters in the lame CW Flash/Arrowverse. Clash of tones, clash of whole storytelling styles and values. I suspect the Raimi characters in the MCU will fare similarly poorly. They will try in their bad way to do justice to them or what they think is justice, but they will fail. It will feel hollow, inauthentic and wrong.
Although you gotta admit, even if the actual mcu spidey movies were meh, their portrayal of mysterio and vulture are ready good. In my opinion, their the best parts of their movies
@@JayPlusForerunner i Agree, Michael Keaton and Jake Gyllenhaal are just so great as Vulture and Mysterio, they were the saving graces for me for those two films
@@JayPlusForerunner it would have been cool to see Raimi finish everything he was setting up, like Mysterio with Bruce Campbell which explains all his cameos, lizard and vulture, you can check out the Spider-man 4 (2011) vulture fight previs animatic on CZcams it's basically like a stop motion drawing of the how the fight was going down, it has a good level of detail.

Everything about the school scene tells us that EVERYONE knows Tobey is Spider-Man. He shoots a web across the room and drags a tray out of the lunch room with it, and they all watched him do it and said stuff like "he's really WEIRD" and stuff like that. Then he did all those flips and fight moves in front of them and super punched the school bully across a hallway. Everyone knows, they just don't say anything.
