Spider-Man 2 - Buy or Rent the Movie: âą Spider-Man 2 (2004)
When a failed nuclear fusion experiment results in an explosion that kills his wife, Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) is transformed into Dr. Octopus, a cyborg with deadly metal tentacles. Doc Ock blames Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) for the accident and seeks revenge. Meanwhile, Spidey's alter ego, Peter Parker, faces fading powers and self-doubt. Complicating matters are his best friend's (James Franco) hatred for Spider-Man and his true love's (Kirsten Dunst) sudden engagement to another man.

Hell, I start crying when Aunt May gave Peter the $20. My grandmother has done me exactly like that, she get so unset when I try to give it back.
thats what grandparents are for :D
My mother does this she was a single mum raising us in a very expensive but safe town she would always put our well-being ahead of her happiness because thatâs what family is all about and when itâs my time to have a kid Iâll do exactly the same
That science hurts me everytime
Those Aunt May scenes are too real.
No I canât take it
Yes you can đ„đą
This is still the best spider-man movie in terms of writing.
RIP Alvin Sargent
And acting.
And now Raimi is back with MoM and wants to do Spiderman 4âŠ.I am all for Old Man peter
There are some cracks in the writing here and there. But the way the story itself is told is pretty well done.
@@keplerthe3399 yeah
the thing I love about the sam raimi trilogy, is the balance between Peter Parker's normal life, and his super hero persona..

Rosemary Harris (Aunt May) is such a good actress. Really makes each scene so emotional and powerful.

Yeah, there's been a couple o'good ones, like Raimi's things and also Scott Derrickson with Dr Strange 1. I'd love for Peter Jackson to come back to his splatter-horror roots and make either a Lobo or a Deadpool-movie.
Back then we all wanted to be Spider-Man after watching this film.
Ant May acting is Oscar worthy.
@Dayspring why?
@@dayspring3459 he ain't wrong.
Ant Man â
Ant May â
Sam Raimi was known as a horror director before these films, so that scene was an homage to his roots. He directed all three of these first Spider-Man movies, but no others. He DID direct an upcoming MCU film however, and it may rely on his horror roots as well, but we shall have to see. The three MCU Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland were also all directed by the same person, Jon Watts.
That scene with Doc Ock in the hospital has such similar vibes to the Evil Dead itâs amazing. Raimi is a legend.
He did do Shaun of the dead right ?
@@Narutoanime16g that was Edgar Wright, whobat one time WAS attached to direct Ant-Man, but left over creative differences, if I recall correctly.
After Multiverse of Madness, all I have to say is let Raimi direct more MCU movies. It was directed phenomenally.
@@fabioj2353 imagine if they let him direct the new Blade movie
The scene with Harry talking to his dad on the mirror could have been a really cool post credit scene if this movie came out today
This is hands down my favorite of all the Spider Man movies!
Don't worry, most people scream "Go to the back of the train!" when they see this scene đ
Best Spiderman Movie ever!
It won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
@Aaron Pablos how does that make it better or worse?
Peter didn't save the guy getting beaten up in the alley because he couldn't. He didn't fully have his powers at the time. It wasn't just a choice.
He could save the guy in the alley, he has his powers throughout the entire film (hence why he doesn't die after jumping off the building in the I'm Back scene). The film is about choice, Peter has chosen to be Peter and not spider man at this point, Peter doesn't save people in need, spider man does, the first film shows this perfectly with the "I miss the part where that's my problem" scene.
@Yoda He is struggling because he has chosen to be Peter at this point not Spiderman, he has a mental block (performance issues common with sportsmen and women), he doesn't know who he wants to be. Search the burning building scene on CZcams and watch the whole scene, at first he is like I should help but realises he has chosen not to be Spiderman, so stops, and then says OK I'm gonna go and help because it's the right thing to do as Peter though, not Spiderman.
@@finbenton6376 it was a combination of both since he has no desires to help and be Spider-Man anymore so he has no powers at the time
@@finbenton6376 He jumps and eventually falls. Not JUST by choice. He doesn't have the powers to their full extent. It's a bit of both.
@@sayanchatterjee355 He has his powers throughout the entire film, the films overall message is about choice and who you really want to be, as the college doctor says "you always have a choice Peter" and Peter says "I have a choice" realising he doesn't have to carry the burden of being Spider-man if he doesn't want it, he is in command of who he wants to be. The reason he falls in the I'm Back scene is Sam Raimi enforcing the common phrase of "you can't turn your feelings on and off like a light switch", Peter prior to the talk with Aunt May couldn't stand the thought of being Spider-man, then a quick talk later is back to wanting to be Spider-man 24/7 again. For Peter to be Spider-man he must be 100% committed to the role, which is why his powers function when he responsibly declines MJ's love in the café, and MJ realises if she wants Peter its her thet needs to make sacrifices for him, which is why in the end she gives him no option but to accept her love after leaving her own wedding.
The kids who gave Pete his mask back are tobeys half brothers
No bs?
Peter should have dated Ursula, his neighbor
The only MCU property that had similar quality in terms of acting, cinematography and script writing was Marvelâs Daredevil.
To me, not even NWH came close to how absolutely heroic yet down to earth this movie was. Tobey will always be my Spider-Man.
This for me will always be the best Spiderman movie...period!
Great story telling, solid characters and development. Perfect!

âOhâŠheâs not getting enough nutritionâ đ€Łđ€Łđ„°đ„°
The Operating Room Scene, was a nod to Sam Raimi's 1st film EVIL DEAD, that's why it had a lot of horror elements,, you should also watch that movie, it stars Bruce Campbell, he is the ring annoucer in the first movie and the security guy that won't let peter in the theatre..
Damn I sometimes forget how masterfully well written Spider-man 2 really is. The dialogues are so great, love your reactions!.
+1 for adding the lines of quickest descent!
The fact that they showed us more Peter than Spider-Man in this one which is so rare for an superhero movies because you know people only come to watch superhero movies to see their hero suiting up jumping flying & kicking the villains but Sam the đ raimi chose to take risk & make it more about Peter's journey by focusing on his life's ups & down , maybe as a kid not many enjoyed watching those scenes but when you grow up you understand & you relate to every single things of Peter that's why why Spider-Man is the greatest super hero of all time & this movie is still the best superhero movie
A fun fact: When Stan Lee wrote the issue, Spider-Man No More, it was coincidentally issue 50, which he didnât mean to do (also the very first appearance of KingPin).
There wasn't time to get to the back of the train, and even if they did, it was still the first car....
That, plus fear and shock is a real thing. You don't think straight when your life could be over in seconds
And the force of the train stopping wouldnât allow them to move backwards
GOATED spider man movie ever,
one of my favorite superhero movies for sure
Yeah for sure

You gotta love Jane's motherly instinct towards this spiderman movie....its so funny' adorable and beautiful!! She expresses so much compassion and passion!!đ đ€Łđđđđ„°đâ€đđđđđ
The hospital scene was Raimi returning to his horror roots. Even the raising of the chainsaw is a reference to his Evil Dead franchise!
Aunt Mayâs speech makes me cry every time
*I never understood why wasn't he just living with his aunt May when it would benefit both of them.*
Good point
Socially frowned upon I guess
I like the reason why they made the webs actually come out of him in these movies. There reason was during the making of the movie they thought well if you could make web shooters wouldnât you just make a bunch and sell them for a lot of money đ€instead of taking pictures for a ok đamount of money .
True, although I donât think it in Peterâs character to do that anyhow. Web shooters could end up in the wrong hands or lead back to him being Spider-Man.
@Dayspring ok then but just telling you . Director James Cameron wanted to make a Spider-Man film make in the mid to late 90s' and even written a complete screenplay and had a whole cast lined up. However, the studios turned it down because of the mature content that the screenplay had. But the only thing from Cameron's screenplay that made it into the 2002 movie was the idea of biological web shooters.
@Dayspring The famous organic webs in Sam Rami's Spider-Man was James Cameron's idea. The 2002 film took some liberties with the characters, but one of the more talked about changes was straying from the comics version of Peter Parker's webs. In the comics, Parker devolved a formula that he would use to create the web while the film had him naturally acquire the webs after his brush with a genetically engineered spider. This change in Parker's origin would play a key plot point in the sequel as Parker struggled with temporarily losing his powers in Spider-Man 2.
I've always preferred that he can actually shoot webs like the main feature of being a spider is to make webs if he has to actively make his own Web fluid through science it doesn't really make him spiderman he's just nerd boy that sticks to walls lol

God Spider-Man 2 is beautiful
18 years later still amazing
I'm Brazilian, and these days this movie was on TV, it's amazing how this movie always moves me and I got emotional again watching it with you.
(Although my English is horrible)
Not horrible at all, actually pretty good.
Your English is good; don't doubt yourself.
I taught English abroad in Japan and I always emphasized that it's better to try and fail than to not try at all.
English is many languages put together; Your English doesn't need to be perfect to be understood. đ
Fun fact though : as MJ is running away from her wedding, you can spot Tom Janes punisher in the back
Of the 3 Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies this is my favorite. The scene that's my favorite is the train with the end of the scene being for the most emotional. I had the same reaction as Jane with the Train scene when I first saw this at the movie theater. When they pulled Spider-Man into the train I had a Justin moment and cried like a baby.
Two of my favorite spidey maneuvers in this video! The way he uses webs to slingshot himself out the window, and toward Ock is always really cool to me. You could even do it in the video game! Then you've got the move where he uses his webs *on Aunt May* to pull himself closer to her as she's falling. So cool.
The cool thing about that opening recap art is that it was painted by comic book legend Alex Ross. He does some of the best covers, and his book The Marvels with Kurt Busiek is my favorite "on the ground" story that really highlights what it's like to live in a city/world of superheroes and supervillains.
37:40 one of the best monologues of all time and in my opinion best superhero one of all time
I look at the reaction of the guy, how cool you feel every moment of the film. Man, you are the best! Thank you for these emotions.
Best Spider-Man
The dialogues in this movie are powerful...
17:53 I think the name dr. Octopus is more ridiculous than a little design flaw đ hahaha
This movie has so much emotional parts. Aunt May made me cry so much
Imagine how well a superhero would do on Patreon!
This is my favorite comic book movie of all time. The best acting from top to bottom, and you canât tell a story about the tension between the man and mission with more pathos and relatability. If you wanna help someone understand what makes this movie the GOAT show the final conversation between Peter Parker and Aunt May (arguably the greatest guardian/mentor in the history of comic book movies). Raimi crushed this film!
Minor detail but I like how she comfort her man when she told him about the club before the met each other
The reason why Peter doesnât tell Harry about the way Goblin actually died was because it was Normanâs dying wish. He only ever tells him in âSpider-Man 3â after he literally tries to murder him.
I think he meant donât tell Harry that they were fighting
They gave AVI ARAD a big thank you in the credits
But do you know who else deserves a big thank you?
LAURA ZISKIN
It was because of her and her partner (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the original trilogy and TASM1 had depth

The Ancient One : I've spent so many years peering through time, looking at this exact moment. But I can't see past it. I've prevented countless terrible futures and after each one there's always another.
The "horror " aspect is classic Sam Raimi.
The lady playing Aunt May is such a good actress!
This movie makes me cry every time
After watching a whole lot of Bully Maguire memes over the past three years, I just can't keep a straight face watching the Raimi trilogy.
Two totally separate thoughts. One I love the obvious Sam Rami horror shots during Doc Octs surgery. The chainsaw held up in the air is such a call back to Evil Dead
Second one of the better super hero memes has Tony Starks Ironman and Bruce Wayneâs Batman fighting each other by throwing money in each otherâs face. Peter Parker meanwhile is scrounging on the floor trying to collect the money.
This movie alone shows you what makes Spider-Man a great hero and why heâs loved by so many people.
The greatest comic book movie of all time

I was 3 when this movie came out and grew up watching it a ton and that hospital scene with doc oc was seared into my brain, just the shear horror all without extreme violence.

Don't feel bad, Jane. You'd have been the only survivor on that train in real life... and in this case, Spider-Man, maybe he'd be injured hitting the ground, but he could probably recover........ right? đ
Jane, it's totally fine! When I rewatched this movie when I was in college, I thought the same thing.
