The Suns mascot is a gorilla because a guy was hired to deliver a singing telegram to a fan at the game in a gorilla suit way back in the day. The stadium staff thought it would be fun to have him dance and stuff during timeouts and fans loved it, so he kept coming back and eventually became the official mascot
Wtf did I just watch? We were in a 16 year playoff drought in a heavy western conference and he was a huge reason why we even made the playoffs. Yes he has his limitations, but social media has driven that man’s name in the mud.
You’re talking about last year and he showed his flaws in the series. Part of why a player is better is what they do in the postseason and he puts up incredibly empty stats. He had one of the most empty double (or triple) doubles ever in that play in against New Orleans
@@kaz7690 I understand I’m talking about last year, but yes playoff minutes are extremely important and should determine how valuable the player is, but we can’t single out regular season stats as well. Dude was in the top 10 in MVP race last season. I’m not saying that he should be top 3, but damn at least top 6. Also regarding the Pels play in game, Sabonis did the best he could, maybe his teammates should’ve stepped up. I mean Fox shot 4-16 from 3pt range that game, but again everyone wants to be on Sabonis’s head for every loss. I’m not the biggest Sabonis fan either, but dudes just be disrespectful at this point.
@@keekings8947I 100% agree with you. Casuals who think Sabonis is just giving empty stats are CASUALS. Take Sabonis off this team and see what happens.
KAT just got done defending Jokic and KD 3 days back from coming off an injury, and after another elite efficiency offensive season, just to get placed below guys like Chet.
Reminder In 18 games the Wolves vs Nuggets the past 2 seasons including playoffs, KAT held Jokic to only 45%fg when he is guarding him. Jokic shot 61%fg in the past 2 seasons vs other teams. Chet is not doing that respectfully. Don is wrong
Not to mention shooting around 50 40 85 at 7ft on 20-25 ppg year in year out. They always talking about efficiency but ignore it for KAT… the hate is insane 😭😭
the major reason for that is that it allows gobert to roam off of jokic as a low shot blocker. that 45% isnt from kat being a great defender, it’s from the flexibility that opting into the matchup gives the wolves
If you just look at playoff games, Jokic still averaged 28/12/8 against him on 50% shooting which is only 4% less efficient then his playoff fg% over the past two years.
I feel crazy that both of yall disagree with Donovan, I would also put Ayton in the 25-30 range and i also agree that Looney deserves to be here, and a big reason is his heart and will to win, its not a stat thing, but it matters a LOT to me if you want a good team.
Honestly you underrate sabonis so much , In terms of offense he was the best center after the greats this year. Record in league in rebounding with 13.7 , basically 20 points a game and 8.4 assist. He was like a mini jokic offensively , able to affect every side of the floor offensively. Also he played all 82 games and this matters when we judge a player, I’d rather have him over towns, sabonis, holmgren or gobert.
Nah he's a bit of a scheme merchant. DHO heavy offenses just inflate big man assists. Put any starting center on the Kings in Sabonis' place and their assist numbers would shoot up. Obviously he's a good passing big but not nearly as impactful offensively as his raw assists numbers state. He went from 5.0 assists per game in Indiana in 2022 to 8.2 now. That's not improvement it's just system. We saw the same happen with Bam, as the Heat went away from a DHO heavy offense, Bam's assists per game dropped from 5.4 to 3.4 in a single season. As for rebounds Sabonis grabs a lot of uncontested defensive rebounds that anyone in the league could grab in those spots. And because he doesn't contest nearly as many shots as good rim protectors he's more often in position to grab rebounds. He's an elite rebounder but again, his raw stats would make you think he's the best rebounder in the league when in truth the AD/Jokic calibre rebounders are a clear tier above him. Overall Sabonis is a 19-11-5 guy being propped up to a 19-14-8 statline by his system and own defensive limitations. And like all guys who are heavily dependent on system for their statistical production, he can be schemed out of playoff series.
I don’t like ayton bc he’s stated that he doesn’t have to try more bc he’s still going to be a max player. In Portland he should’ve been dominating the ball and balling out to show prove to people he’s that guy, but he’s just a 7’1 expensive bum. I don’t like his effort, I also believe the suns could’ve won that chip if ayton TRIED. Multiple times he would passive and just show that he’s not worth the max. I agree with don on this one.
It's always interesting to hear Issac spin certain narratives to support his argument. Stating that OKC turned into a top defense because of Chet, saying that he is the reason for them going from 11th to a top 5 defense is just wild to me. Chet has his impact, but the real reason is that OKC didn't have ANY big last season. You could've put Capela on that OKC team and they would've improved dramatically on defense anyway. But Chet gives you a good balance of adding defense without having a big drop on offense. OKC had 3 elite defenders at their position before Chet. Now they have another good one.
Chet had the 2nd most blocks, 2nd most contests, and was top 5 in lowest opponent fg % for PF/C's last season. No, not just any C has that impact, Chet is an elite defensive C, you can probably only argue Gobert/Wemby/Davis/Bam were better last season. Though, you aren't totally wrong about the lack of any real C in 22-23. Both can be true.
I think he did have a legitimately great impact by himself and it's not really about the lack of rim protection but yeah, having Shai, Jdub and Lu Dort at your perimeter also relieves a lot of the pressure that would just fall on his chest otherwise
KP is so underrated, he’s a similar rim defender to Jarret Allen and he’s a more consistent offensive player compared to current Chet. He should be top 6 maybe 5
don always putting people in the list who haven’t played a single game yet. last year it was wemby and chet, now it’s zach edey. and im with isaac, im a munch for edey
I actually think KAT’s value is significantly higher than people realize for 1 specific reason. He is the 1 guy in the league who genuinely makes it hard on Jokic’s offense 1 on 1. I think that’s why the wolves haven’t traded him or broken up yet. Simply because without him Jokic would probably dominate the wolves. I’m a wolves fan so there’s bias. And as a matter of fact I think you guys placed him pretty respectably. But it’s something that I kind of wish more people acknowledged. KAT’s value in this league is significantly higher because of Jokic’s existence.
sorry but that's a bad take. 1. KAT didn't look anything like a "Jokic stopper" until he had Rudy behind him dissuading Jokic from venturing close to the rim. Rui Hachimura looked like a Jokic stopper for a minute with AD behind him. It's a scheme thing, not a Towns thing. 2. Even if it were true, being more effective that most of your peers in a matchup that occurs for 4 out of 82 games in a season and is not super likely to occur in the playoffs just doesn't move the needle.
@@jesusfanboy6799 I think arguably if you want to say KAT didn't look like a Jokic stopper until Rudy was there is fair. But he did have big defensive games against Jokic previously in high leverage games. Namely the 82nd game of the 2018 season to get the 8 seed in the playoffs (this was before both were in their primes however). And if you're saying that it's a matchup that doesn't matter and is unlikely to occur I think you're very wrong. The Wolves and Nuggets will likely both be top 4 contenders in the west for years with Ant and Jokic. It is highly likely every playoffs that they will matchup. And without KAT this is a guaranteed lost series. As I said i think they placed him fairly (besides the 11th spot placement tbh) so I wasn't necessarily saying he's a top 3-4 center or anything. I just want people to understand the value of KAT on the wolves.
Rudy isn't a terrible defender, he just got cooked by the 2 best offensive players in the league in back to back series and that narrative started. Luka and Jokic cook everyone.
i might be bias as a pg fan, but i think this is the best offensive team that joel embiid has had, he can relax a lot more during regular season instead of having to drag them to a high seed, between maxey and pg thats already a 50 piece practically, he doesnt need to put up 35 a night, i think this is the best chance we have of him having a healthy playoff run
