You are comparing oranges too apples here. One is made for smooth bore(foster) and the other is for rifled bore(sabot). Different grains, different metals. BA cost .90 a round where the SST are around $3 I bought 2 cases of each and they are both good for the proper application.

I was helping out with wounded Soldiers and I would take them in my truck up to PA hunting, we always use my 12g M887 and the Hornady slug in my rifled barrel never failed, I didnt test other ammo for dear in the shotgun because the Hornady worked so well there was no need. Now I am retired back home on the west coast so I dont do very much slug shooting anymore since there are a few less rules for rifles here than there were at Letterkenny PA but I would definitely feel comfortable recommending the Hornady still. great video gentlemen!

I bought a case for both my 12s and 20s years ago at a local gun store that had a deal on them. That was about 10 years ago and I have barely dented the cases. I also had a buddy of mine make me a mold for the 12 gauge slugs so I can use them in my black powder conversion for my old Stevens single shot so I'm not stuck shooting pumkin balls out of it.

Curious if the rifle you're using has a "rifle barrel" or not ?
Cause this Hornady SST FXT tipped slugs do say that they're for use in shotguns with "rifled barrels." On the box, but pretty sure most of the ballistic / review videos I've seen shooting them, are just using smooth bored barrels. So Idk how much it really matters.
Hornady does make another couple similar slugs that DON'T an to say anything about smooth or rifled barrels.
Theres the Hornady American Whitetail, and the Hornady Superformance Monoflex slug.. The America Whitetail are like the SST FXT ones, but without the FXT tip.. An the Superformance ones are 76mm, instead of 70mm. So they're like even bigger in diameter then the other 2. But seem harder to find, been looking..

I think there are several rounds thar would make it through and in various calibers. I like working with 1018. It's soft, but pretty tough for what it is. I think it would make a nice looking hole through it. Maybe try a few different 30 Cal penetrating rounds. 308, 7.62X54, etc. Or do a caliber comparison. 223, 30cal, and .50.
