- This is my take on one of the Sherman tanks M4A3E4 used in the film Kelly's Heroes this is Oddballs Sherman from the movie.
The donor kit was used for spares before I got it hence the replacement of some bits to finish the build thank goodness for Dragon left over bits as well as abit of tamiya lol.
The song is sung by The Mike Curb Congregation. I do not claim ownership of the music in this video credit go's to the owner I just thought the music was right for the video
It's a mother-beautiful tank
"We got our own ammunition, it’s filled with paint. When we fire it, it makes… pretty pictures. Scares the hell outta people!"
The Oddball sherman used in the movie was a Yugoslavian owned tank and today is in a museum in Serbia, painted with hippy colour. Sgt. Oddball is still one of my favorite movie characters. "You could probably use some armour" 😃
Thanks for the update !
Was not most of the equipment used came from a personal warehouse owned by Marshall Tito?
"His names oddball 🙄"
Yes, the Sherman could possibly do with a bit more "armour". Especially when fighting Tigers and Panthers ;-). Nice build.
"A Sherman can give you a nice...edge."
woof wooof. my other dog impression
super super film, super soundtrack, burning bridges i have a 7" single somewhere, always makes me think of family.....
Classic ! Woof woof!!
"We add this piece of pipe onto it and the Krauts think . . maybe it's a 90mm" Cool build I'm surprised not many people do Oddball's sher
man
I think it is the speaker on the side that puts off a lot of people as it is hard to make (mine was 3D printed in the end).
I love this movie!. When I first heard this song . It didnt jive. But now it really fits well with story. I love it!
Fastest tank in the European theater forward or backwards
See, we like to think we can get out of trouble quicker'n we got into it.
Great flick.....Do you know whats in that bank baby...16 million marks. Moe, whiskey....triangular formation
A modification not mentioned in the film is the reverse gear in the tank's transmissions; Oddball wanted to be able to get out of trouble faster than he and his men drove into it.
And yet the Soviets built their T-72s with a reverse gear slower than Granny's power chair.
@@jimmiller5600 You should check out WWII British Tanks. 50--60km/h forward... 5km/h backwards.... if that.
@@danielross7983 Agreed, but we're talking about T-72's, built in the 1970's and still the backbone of the Russian army. Plus, it's pretty clear that they're built to attack, not defend. That says something about the "peaceful" USSR.
@@jimmiller5600 Not at all. The best defence is a good offense. If you want a comparison, the US spends more money on "Defence" than Russia and the rest of NATO combined. What does that say about the USA's peaceful intentions?
@@danielross7983 That I completely agree with. I'd be overjoyed for the US to reduce its spending on defense and invest it in education, environment, infrastructure, etc. But you notice that there we're approaching the hundred year anniversary of no world wars?
'Who do you fight for?'
Britain: Allies!
Germany: Axis!
Italy: whoever's winning!
My favourite film.
Very nice. Still my favorite film
Thank you
Thank-you ... Oddball stole the movie ... brilliant, oh yeah, he had this tank, the Co-star !!!
Very nice work , the added detail is amazing 😉
Thank you
Would love to do a model of oddballs Sherman
Why don't you knock off those negative waves
Brilliant !
Great job!!!
Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no tigers.
"Wasted trip baby"
This is awesome, I need to do this with a model sherman
Thank you
I saw Kelly's heroes when it first came out. It was very appealing. Carrol OConnor was still alive and his TV show a recent memory. It was far out to see him play a general. It was one of the older theaters I didn't often attend, but they offered Heros at a bargain price in that depressed economy. It was kind of inspiring. I think I paid 50 cents. Hard to believe, huh? Decades later I got it in VHS and DVD. Over the years various WW2 treasure stories have come out. Sometimes the G Is got paid for their trouble. God bless them, they earned it. Congress, first time in history, rewarded them with the GI Bill education subsidy. Of all the things Congress has blown money on, I think this was the greatest investment they ever made. In ruined Europe they had no way to ship gold so they just took all they could carry. Hardly made a dent in the Nazi troves, but enabled them to buy little suburban houses when they got back. The Merkers mine stash comes to mind. A $billion in gold at 1940s prices. Then there was the Hungarian loot train that apparently shared out about a $million. Patton broke into a bank loaded with gold. To his disappointment some guy with an excess of conscience blew the whistle on it. Sorry, Third Army. Third Army troops rode shotgun on a treasure train that was lost. Patton waxed mightily wroth at the loss of 60 of his GIs. Then he was assassinated. It seems they rode the train into a tunnel and both ends were blown down. In the wake of the war the incident was forgotten. Malefactors recovered the stash. It was used to fund a Frankenstein lab in Montauk. So I guess the spooks were up to their usual organized crime. They don't call them cloak and dagger for nothing. One fellow went down in Merkers to inventory the stash. At the time he was young and justice was foremost in his mind. After he saw WDC exposed for criminal activity, he remarked if he had to do it over he would take his share.
to a new yorker like you a hero is some kind of strange sandwich
Woof Woof Woof
OMG... you even got the dent in the speaker!!!!
You would think with all of the weird kits made after Hollywood creations, and then after Miniarts' M3 Lee "Sahara" with crew release, someone would make a kit with the correct figures or at least an aftermarket set for this subject.
I know there was a few after market kits for both the crew and tank but they seem to have gone out of production a long time ago (you can still came across the odd one on ebay). But for someone making a kit it could be down to who owns the rights to the movie.
Outstanding built. Blessings 👍🏼
nicely done!!!!! (:
No negative waves here.... nice Sherman
A Sherman can give you a very nice...... edge.
I didn't know what this was. When I heard this song---Game over!!!
What about the pipe that makes the gun look like a 90 or even a 100mm?
It was not in the scene I based it on as the tank gets changed a few times in the movie I ended up deciding to go with the the look from when they shoot paint at the tiger.
10 people are giving off negative waves man.
🎵Every time I go to town,
Them boys start
kicking my dog around,
Go on Bluuuuue..🎵
"60ft of Bridge I could pick up just about anywhere"
Where's Turk, Moriarty, and especially Bachman "the driver".but is still a great tank good work👍
Thank you they re in the tank as it is the Paint moment when they fired Red paint at the Tiger (I was thinking about doing the Diorama at some point hence the Oddballs and Kelly's positions).
Shut up with your negative waves!
@@Robsonski96 Oh man! you both are crazy you assaulted by "TIGER"you know what I mean" ASSAULTED"😅😅😅😂
"It's a beautiful bridge and it's gonna be there"
@@willnailer2118 Run-over the bridge 'SURE'! Supposed the bridge ain't there😅😂
Pretty detailed, except I didn't see the pipe they used to make it look like the Sherman had a 90mm gun.
Because the stowage (and heck even the speaker) kept moving I decided to pick one scene and base it on that this is Oddballs sherman from when they had just shot the tiger with Paint in that you do not see the pipe so..........
Stop it with those negative waves Moriarty!!
drinking some wine eating some cheese catching some rays ya know man
@@freespeech6559 Oddball, way better hero than Captain America.
Ho man brilliant.
Oddball kind of has it backwards with the gun barrel dint they paint the end of the gun sky blue on firefly’s to make them look like normal Sherman’s to stop the Germans spotting them ?
Yeah the painted the barrels on Firefly tanks to look like 75mm guns by painting a white half on the barrel but I think in Kelly's Heroes it was more a line to get round the fat the 76mm barrel was longer then a shermans 75mm
Should’ve been “all for the love of sunshine”
Cool vid!
Awesome!
What I always found weird was, why did the padre bring the dirty movies ? 😳
He’s making. The oarts work
To a new Yorker like you, a gyro is some kind of weird sandwich!
Wooof Wooof 😎
Very nice indeed! What barrel were you using for the main gun?
I ended up using a bit of pipe I had spare as none of the barrels I had were long enough.
@@theconfusedmodelmaker Okie dokie. Well noted mate. Thanks.
Boy I've that 7" .....
Oddballs sherman was more grey than green, still very cool though 👍
"Definitely an anti-social type."
"WOOF WOOF WOOF, thats my big dog impression."
Always with the negative waves.
Graced it ! thankx
Dude awesome but the speaker was on the right side. But great none the less!!! Woof!
Funny enough the speaker swaps sides when Oddballl is showing Kelly His tanks it is on the right the rest of the movie it is on the left which is why as I based this on the bit where they just shot the T34/Tiger with paint the speaker is on the left
Do it fire paint ? Woof, Woof 😂
Where's the pipe. That has let the build down. Impressive though.
Because the stowage (and heck even the speaker) kept moving I decided to pick one scene and base it on that this is Oddballs sherman from when they had just shot the tiger with Paint in that you do not see the pipe so..........
didnt it have some sort of added pipe (gun) on the right side?
In the end as the stowage (and even the speaker at one point) kept changing and moving through the movie I decided to base it on the scene where they had just shot the tiger with red paint and in that scene there is no pipe (I think they added that line because of the barrel length of a 76mm gun vs a 75mm)
Hey wheres that Barrel from ?
It was a bit of metal pipe I had with a slightly larger piece added to the end sorry nothing special.
What Marine Sherman used a long barreled 76mm?
It was a post war modification no war time Shermans with this style of turret had 76mm guns.
@@theconfusedmodelmaker I remember now. The U.S. sold a ton of small turreted Shermans with the long barrelled 76mm to Hungary (or whever the movie was shot). This is how they got so many Shermans in the movie. You are correct, definitely postwar.
nice and negatith waves
No Turk?! No Moriarty?
I based it on the Paint scene with the tiger and in that bit the other crew are not seen
mrkedney4 do you have a foto of your diorama??
wtf my comments are automatically deleted ?????????????????
Always with the negative waves.
