    I bought the Jetta because the competitors aggressive Japanese styling (except for Mazda) was getting to be a bit too much. I want a car that looks like an adult drives it, not some teenager who thinks Transformers are cool. Jesuschrist one more crease on the new Civic and it'd look like a goddamn WiFi router.

      Yes, every one has their preferences. I see how the styling on those vehicles you mentioned can certainly look a little overdone.

      THANK YOU! Went car hunting with my wife and a used 2016 Jetta Sport was the only affordable car we saw that looked half decent, across the gamut of "affordable". I don't know why people expect so many design changes annually anyway... if there's a good design, I would prefer that it be stuck to, rather than deserted for one that suits the common denominator of the population

    Just purchased jetta 2017 and its 2020. My prior jetta was 2009 and ran that to 237,550 miles. This car is a dream. Esp for cost vs performance. It passes on highway much better than any in its class even faster than Honda Accord Sport, 1.5t.

  • @babygli1500
    @babygli1500 Před 7 lety +23

    "weak" engine? What other cars in this class have you driven with a base engine that will match this car in terms of torque, power, and acceleration?

    • @marco1173
      @marco1173 Před 7 lety +4

      Not to mention, it seems like VW is understating the HP on that 1.8. A lot of sources say on the dyno it actually puts out 190 HP.

    • @babygli1500
      @babygli1500 Před 7 lety +1

      Yeah that 1.8 pulls pretty hard. I test drove one back to back with my 1.4 before I tuned it and to me there was a noticeable difference. I'm happy to say that my tuned 1.4 pulls just as hard if not harder than the stock 1.8, plus no limit on the top speed

    • @marco1173
      @marco1173 Před 7 lety

      Which tune did you get?

    • @babygli1500
      @babygli1500 Před 7 lety

      The only one that's currently available, Unitronic Stage 1. It really woke that 1.4 up. I'm getting under 7 seconds 0-60 times and I've had it up to 140 mph. The limitations for the car are the attrocious eco tires it comes with and the brakes, which are ok but were never meant for speeds much above 100 mph. I would almost venture to call the torque brutish from 0-40, spinning and hopping tires, shaking the whole damn car until it hooks up. I need some extremecontact dw's!

    • @marco1173
      @marco1173 Před 7 lety

      0-60 under 7? That's pretty good. I'm still on the fence for a tune for mine. I like something that can be bolted on and off (Neuspeed) because I'm on a lease, but APR can extract more power, for more money of course, and I'll lose it when I return the car so I'm leaning to Neuspeed. That would still get me 220+ HP, so right up there with a stock GLI.

    Nice review. I have a 2016 Jetta SEL with the 1.8T. This is our first Volkswagen and we are enjoying it. We like the clean styling, the clean lines and the simple interior layout. My wife and I don't like all the curves and angles on some of the same cars in this class. The interior fit/finish is solid and well put together. The car drives and handles great also.

    Thanks for the review. I'm VW's are being reviewed, I've been waiting for them. Hopefully we can get the CC, as I think that's a pretty slick car.

  • @Moisi547
    @Moisi547 Před 7 lety +1

    This is the most non compact, compact car in its segment. Space compares to most mid size sedans. Except its big brother, the passat that offers the most interior and trunk space in the mid size segment, here in America

    Great review! I will say though that I'm happy I got the '16 model. They did away with the SEL Premium which is what I have. I do wish the rims were at least 18" but the lighting package makes a difference in the way the car looks. For an every day car it's great, even with passengers there is plenty of room.

  • @godfatherNYC
    @godfatherNYC Před 7 lety

    I like these a lot but the 2018 Jetta redesign is SO sharp, it would be crazy not to wait for it! (Same with the Tiguan.)

    • @DripExplains
      @DripExplains Před 7 lety +1

      godfatherNYC that 2018 redesign that you've seen is not real. I would love it to be, shit I'll trade mine in if they do.
      The Tiguan does now looks really good. It needed a redesign badly, old Tiguan looked goofy.

    Like your reviews, but I don't think you're giving the base 1.4T a fair shake. IMO, only the Civic and Mazda3's base engines are definitively better at such a low price point, with maybe that of the Focus being a slight step above.

    The outside looks pretty but the interior is not so upscale with all that rock hard plastic that will get you elbows to hurt. Looks very similar to the Nissan Sentra when it comes to interior quality.

  • @DripExplains

    I have the 16 Jetta sport. Lots of road noise. Styling is old. I believe they can redesign it without crazy styling for example the Nissan Altima redesign.
    I love the car and I'm glad I didn't wait for 2017. Nothing has changed.

    • @yoshiakik.5332
      @yoshiakik.5332 Před 7 lety +1

      I seen a new Altima on the road for the first time this weekend. It's pretty looking, but I think Nissan is trying to copy KIA's overhaul in design language. The previous Altima looked more conservative, I like conservative, actually.

      bannajirocks The Civic looks like a wannabe transformer and The Mazda 3's performance can't match that of the Jetta. I drive this same exact car, and I can tell you for sure, this guy is wrong about the engine. It picks up incredibly quick. Not only that, but it corners wonderfully and drives smoothly. It's exactly what I'd expect from a German Car, without having to buy something like a ridiculously expensive Mercedes. You really get bang for your buck when you buy this car. I honestly wouldn't even consider a Mazda 3 or a Civic after driving this car, thanks to its excellent performance AND the excessive features it offers.

      Assembled in Mexico with German made parts. You and others need to stop trying make a issue how this car is not "German." Do some searching and you will see how many car companies have cars assembled in Mexico. Ford, Nissan, etc..
