It's so unprofessional for them to spit in the face of small companies. Come on, you're better than this...
Yeah, similar news sites bashed Tesla and Space X, one of those companies could be even bigger than dji I don't know why they are so snobby about it. Competition = Lower prices and better features for consumers. Competition is good.
Zhang it's pathetic to do it especially at CES where they are showing products to get investors/feedback to improve them.
They're not wrong though... it's professional to give an unbiased factual assessment of the situation. You can't give pity-positive reviews to a small company just because they're being the underdog. I do agree though that the title could have been put more... tactfully.
***** To put it simple: No.
We completely agree +Zhang.
Imagine spending time, money and effort in a project just so someone could ruin it's reputation by creating a video titled "these drones must die"... That's honestly so mean.
Yann Vidal If it's bad it's bad, nothing changes that fact. If it's not pointed out here, it'll be pointed out elsewhere and at worst, through the expense of the consumer. It's meant to be informative and while it does suck, it's how the market works.
Richard Thai exactly, would you rather buy to discover it's crap? of course not, the verge saving many from just giving in to the hype..
Yann Vidal That's called business. It's mean.
+Yann Vidal TheVerge didn't force them to spend their time, money and effort on crappy toys.
+hsieh mike IT IS CES! for companies to unvainl upcoming projects, bashing a product that isn't even finished isn't fair, its disgusting
Unnecessary negativity at the expense of small companies
Worst coverage at CES 2017: The Verge
Agreed! Definately a toe.crumbling experience watching this dude not being himself for 1 second :(
Not sure I support this kind of video. Just show the best/coolest and leave it at that
I'd never buy a drone that's not from dji honestly... The others are just following the hype with bad ideas.
G369 DJI isn't that all, they just based on their name and overpriced product's
Lucas Colonna they're not overpriced
theALEKY man they are crazy overpriced, I don't mean that the product don't have quality but there a equal or even better options for lower prices out there!
No. Best camera, software and the drone itself.
carl elg sorry man, you are just one more FANBOY that cant see whats is clear
This is so true..As someone who's been in RC Model Flying since I was a kid....I love this video, because this drone "thing"....is definitely out of control. The need for everyone to come out with a drone..regardless if it works or not..is so 2016.
Greatly disappointed with this video Verge. You've been slacking lately and with everything that's going on, you're signing your own death warrant. Change your ways!
It's truly crazy how nobody is even close to DJI. Even Yuneec (who I agree offers the second best product on the market) is light years behind DJI.
Snazzy Labs have you done any research on Autel? Their XStar Premium uses the same sensor as the Phantom 4 and has all of the same features minus obstacle avoidance for far less money? And their customer service is 7 days a week and US based. No brainer to me.
because DJI in the drone industry since 2006 doing flight controller system, so they have real core technology about drone
and DJI is first mover in consumer drone in 2012/2013 by release all in one package DJI Phantom and it's a hit
since then DJI just keep innovating, now they have small and portability DJI Mavic, prosumer DJI Phantom, professional DJI Inspire, industrial use Matrice 600
Snazzy Labs *cough* GoPro karma *cough*
Nev
oh, please, Gopro has nothing new, their drone is ripoff of 3D Robotics's 3DR Solo drone
Karma Grip 3-axis stabilizer is ripoff of third-party Gopro accessories maker
just search "Feiyu G3" on youtube, they make 3-axis stabilizer for Gopro since 2014
Nev
and put off from the drone and put on to the Karma Grip is ripoff of DJI's Osmo
watch this video "This is the most amazing drone we've seen yet" by The Verge on youtube
and "Hands-On: DJI Osmo Handheld 4K Camera" by Tested
That "air cleaner" was hilarious.
says by a man who wears smart underwear.
Worst..well...I mean then just do not use drones....JUST BE THANKFUL YOU RICH CRITICS
i guess..the other small company didn't sponsor them.. lol or Dji sponsored them too much~
I'd argue you need companies like these coming out with weird variations that may or may not even work. It only takes one to hit on a new way of using drones and that company becomes the next DJI or probably gets bought out by them but the end result is we get innovation in drones, not just endless slight improvements on the same set of successful models.
If I wasn't so lazy I'd provide examples that show its exactly this kind of frenzy around a new product line that stimulates the best kind of innovation that you just would never get from a large established company. Small hungry companies made up of a few smart people. In the movie Primer just such a small company of smart people invented a time machine by accident. But that wasn't real, so not such a great example but damn I do love that movie. You know it only had a budget of $5000?
i really hope yuneec gets more recognition but im still gonna buy dji
Why so aggressive and negative? These people take risks and make innovative devices. The verge should threat them with respect, not ridicule them.
I think the 20 something dollar cheap drones on amazon or ebay are absolutely worth the money, even if you buy them as a toy. As for film making, you likely to have a bigger budget.
But that's my opinion
if someone made another video like this but the topic was "worst youtube channels" your channel would for sure make the list! :)
After these new drones which one is the best and the most portable in your opinion?
Finally someone brave enough to call these crap drone companies out!! Loved every minute of this!
can someone tell me the name of the first drone in the video, the small black one that look like an eulerspace pi drone?
there's no line between toy and technology. 90% of drones are tech toys
yeah, even DJI drones are toys
DJI drones aren't toys lmao
They're prosumer electronic gadgets, they're RC cameras. No one really needs one, and for most people they're toys.
What's the song called at 00:01? Sounds awesome.
So true, good review!!!
I'm all for the little guy too but you have to be ready when you show your project to the world. if it's not maybe wait another year. everyone has to be cutting edge and technology moves so fast folks feel they need to be seen now but it feels some work just isn't finished.
I remember the time The Verge isn't a sellout
If you want a nice basic drone with high end onboard equipment for a modest price. DJI spark is your best option. It's tiny yet it is just as capable as the mavic or the phantom
tune name at the start anyone?
wath is the name song in intro video ?
Who did the audio for this? Sounds great
I hope there's a best ones episode coming.
"You gotta compete with us and DJI." Wtf is Yuneec?
Andy Hu
I guess you're not into drones, they're only 2nd to Dji.
What drone at 2:35 ???
Moby?
(1:05) "...when they're just cheap toys" that's both very true and very false to me......knowing a time when "drones" weren't even called that....they were seen as fun toys for people in the RC hobbyist community (multirotors), but now, they are seen as things of the innovation and the future, yet also "evil" and expendable
Damn those dislikes tho!
Keep em up!
DJI does not want to help people with limited mobility. They just want to be the top dog.
Kinda bummed at the lack of coverage of the convention. Would have loved to see more
I hope you realize the uses of drones in the public sector, Fire dept, search rescue, etc, are going to be a great tool that will really help us.
So the next time you are stuck in traffic while the road people inspect a bridge and block a couple of lanes, you will be wishing they would use a drone to check it instead.
What was that at 2:36?
I have a mavic and a u818a went straight from my u818a to a mavic look it up and see if I am mental.
There's 4 minutes of my life I won't get back.
I am a big fan of The Verge, but I do not think it's too right to spit in the face of smaller companies, especially being the big tech reviewer and outlet that they are.
Does anyone know the name of the drone at 2:41?
its a Cheerson CX-10WD being sold for about 4 times the price..
Ben, I know you've been to CES before. Every category is like this.
Autel is good GDU has cool drones. yuneec is good too. DJI might be the king of the market but it doesn't hurt to try out other companies
SuperSxeMatt I HAVE Owned Phantoms, and I have a Breeze, but the best drone I own is my Autel XSP. amazing drone, left out of this video and putting a big dent in drone sales.
This is the worst report I've ever seen from the Verge
power vision will be around next year, not sure how well they will do against dji but, time will tell.
You forgot to talk about the worst drones and why they are the worst drones.
I think you got the video title mixed up, it's just a walk around video with no info.
Happy to see sky viper, all their stuff is toy grade but pretty cool imho
tbh the Verge has been pumping out the most videos out of the top tech channels on CZcams. Idk where MKBHD is at.
What about the Autel X Star?
why would they fly the Ehang184 inside the building???
Watching this in 2018!!
I couldn't disagree with you more about PowerVision's PowerRay. It is great addition to the Drone industry. Yes it doesn't change the fishing game all to much, but think of the possibilities to see the sea in a whole new perspective. Or for search and rescue underwater. If you were to install an IR or thermal camera. They also have some unique designs and engineering on their other products as well that other companies do not have. They will be around for many years to come. Mark my words.
Hey parrot bebop 2 is a pretty cool drone I own. But wtf was on top of it kinda ruined its reputation. Don’t underestimate the parrot bebop 2.
2:36 what drone is that?? looks cool.
yeah it looks like parrots mambo on steriods
how do I take my view back. This video..I need that 3:49 back please!
I'm really interested in the one at 2:35 ...
Fascinating video +The Verge BUT these new startups which come and go are a good thing. They push the main players by giving them inspiration and most importantly competition. Without these smaller new guys, the big players wouldn't feel the urge or push to innovate. I also think that your reporting is a little unfair, it is hardly viable to fly the Ehang aircraft (which carries a person) inside an exhibition hall...
EVERY TOY IS A PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY
I'm not a fan of the verge
*says everything with moderate disassociation, because hipster
and yes, consumer "drones" are on the way out, most are outdated by the diy quad hex or octo copter builders long before they arrive in the stores. This guy couldn't even keep a quad copter in the air as of the last video I have seen so I will take his judgment based on that.
*Let the jokes start for Parrot and 3D Robotics!*
those two companies being the only ones around next year are you crazy? you obviously didn't look at Autels booth
I can actually say autel robotics will be around next year.
But only one question remains
Does it have a headphone jack?
Drones all have different uses
I got a SkyViper for Christmas last year... It broke in 1 week. Now I have a DJI Phantom 3 Standard. 1,000 times better.
BEST VIDEO I'VE SEEN ON THESE STUPID "DRONES" most are crap and a vaporware...
So cool!!!😎😎😎😎😎
which is why i only buy dji drones
I think you will see companies like Autel come in and produce just as strong of a product as DJI and offer customer service that is far and away better. I don't think it's fair to say that "with confidence" that only 2 manufacturers will be around this time next year.
Yuneec and Autel both have some very interesting more professional designs coming out while DJI keeps making toys or overpriced mediocre platforms.
add promark drones to the list of drones that must die
2:35 what is that
Funny with a title like, Worst drones at CES, you would assume there would be some reviewing or comparison, but nope there's not 😕
Wish I can give thousands of thumbs down for this video.
*A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step*
Guys don't spit small companies in the face😕
WTF Verge? You've stooped so low as to bully small companies who invested so much money and time into developing a product? Disgusting
Really bad coverage. Did you really expect the E-Hand to be flying inside there ? Really ? Wow
LOL@ 0:19. Too bad the US government and military issued a ban on any of their personnel from using drones from Chinese companies. That includes DJI and Yuneec, among others...
The Verge's credibility just got flushed. Yuneec and DJI the only drones who should survive? (sigh, more DJI minions) Did you look at Autel? Killing it with sales, and doing it all within a year of launching the XSP. Goodbye...
I usually appreciate the Verge's videos which are good about being unbiased and informative, but this just seemed wrong. these smaller companies are trying to think of something new and creative. Bashing and hating on them for trying is just lazy reporting.
Wow, you have to admit that a few of the ideas were bad. The sea drone looks cool.
Dude some drones are just meant to be something to have fun flying. Just cuz it's no Phantom 4 or some other "professional" photography drone doesnt mean it is a crap drone. Jeez
Most disliked video on CZcams? Lets GO!
There are no "Worst Drones" because all of this is innovation in its infancy - these are innovators using the free-market to propel their next creation - Way to go Drone Makers - it's all good - ALL OF IT>
This is not the point of CES this video is childish
drones are indeed the grown mans toys
E hang is flying now!
Appreciate this video!!
and euh... what was the purpose of this video... still don't get it???
Don't forget you're earning your meal by criticizing such "destined-to-fail" companies!
Stop hating verge i maybe they could sell more units and keep there company alive if you guys encourage them even if these are great drones someone looking for a drone could see this video even though these are just in the testing phase.
Where is syma?
I learned: Big companies ar big. Small companies are small.
And some products are a joke.
But if the title of a video tells "worst drones", i would expect some kind of fact based ranking. And not somebody strolling around boths, ranting and shooting some kind of softball-shotgun.
oh please. its good to show how bloated drone market is. A lot of them got the exact attention they deserved - just a normal drone with some added unnecessary features, totally failing in creativity and just wanting to jump on the drone trend. Also, protecting 'small' chinese companies over the internet? Let's see them do the same for you
The underwater drone actually does work Jon B did it
At the beginning when he says DJ I and yuneec are the only to brand that are going to be around he has excluded parrot
You look like Simone Zaza
