  • On 15 Feberuary 1967, ITN's John Edwards reported from India on the country's fourth General Election campaign. Edwards focused on the apparent inability of the Congress Party to solve the country's problems, and examined two manifestations of the resulting widespread national disenchantment: the strength of the Communist Party in Kerala; and the political resurgence of the Princes. Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi, interviewed between electioneering speeches, refuted the suggestion that democracy could not solve India's main problems. Gandhi argued that the success of the Communists in Kerala, while reflecting the general popular discontent stemming from high unemployment, had specifically local origins. Elsewhere in the country, Hinduism stifled Communism. Another sign of the waning power of the Congress Party Edwards found was the return to public life of 200 Maharajahs who were attacking the government from the right. Maharani of Jaipur, seen campaigning in poor villages, told Edwards that Indians did not want a return to princely rule but look back with nostalgia to an earlier period of cheap, plentiful food and low taxes.

I think this documentary was filmed in 1967. Its quite sad that Indira Gandhi a leader so loved by the people would be assasinated by her own guards in 1984.
It's even more painful that her son who later became prime minister was assassinated in 1992.
Currently in April 2024, India is preparing for a general election, with Indira Ghandi's grandson as a candidate.
    Hope he wins.
    Love to India🇼🇳

I think you need to get your fact right. Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991. Also, Indira Gandhi was known misusing her powers to get things done. For instance, infamous emergency. We don't need Rahul Gandhi. Perhaps you may take him to your country

If Indira Gandhi did not declare State Emergency in 1976, India would fall into Mititary Rules like North Korea and Myanmar , I Salute Indira Gandhi how brave she is ❀❀
