  • I replaced the Adventure Rack Systems Rocklander Stealth Rack with a Rhino-Rack Backbone and Pioneer Platform on our #jlu #rubicon . I discuss the pros and cons of the two different racks and walk through my reinstall of the Overland Vehicle Systems (OVS) 270 degree awning with a bit on ingenuity.

Clarifying/correction re: Static/Dynamic weight for the Rhino-Rack system. The weight that I was referencing is for Off Road and should be 174 pounds and 748 for static weight.

The Pioneer Platform has so many options for mounting almost anything you can think of too, not to mention it looks great on your rig. Very clean!
The weights you listed on-screen for the Pioneer Platform seemed low, so I did some digging and found the Dynamic weight is actually 264lbs and Static weight is 800lbs.

Interresting. Where did you find that info? I was pulling the numbers right out of the Rhino Rack charts for the RJLB1 for "Off Road Cargo Allowance". Largest number I see for Static Allowance is 748lbs, and 219lbs for "On Road Cargo Allowance" with the 3 Cross bars. I'll be stoked if the capacities are actually higher.

@@GoldensGoneWheelin TrailRecon did an extensive article on this rack, it’s posted on their website. Also, Quadratec states: 219 lbs of dynamic load (748 lbs static).

@@RhinoOverland I pinned a comment to correct and clarify my statement. You are correct, on road cargo allowance (dynamic) is 219 pounds with 748 pounds of static allowance. Thanks for pointing this out!

Great video! Once again we have similar rigs. Love my OVS 270. Also the Pioneer platform! You can still remove the Freedom tops if you want to. You will enjoy.

So I’m thinking about getting the backbone system for my jeep and I’d like to put a tent, 270 and maybe even a shower on there too. Do you guys think the rhino rack can take all that and my 230 pound body as well or should I look elsewhere?

Hey Thanks for video. Debating some kind of awning with my rhino rack set up. Could you share some links of those hardware pieces that made the ovs brackets work with the rhino rack

Thank you. I have added a few links in the description, one is for the tool box mount I was talking about.

Very good video and interesting information. I also decided for Rhino Rack system and I am happy with this rack. Could you give me the dimensions and thickness of the awning holder? I haven't found similar ready-made ones in my country but I can cut one myself on a laser.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. been a busy week and I needed to go out and measure. The long part of the brackets that mount on top of the rack are 9" X 3.75", and the verticle portion the awning bolts to is 6" X 3.5". The steel looks to be ~1/4" to 5/16" thick. Hopefully that helps.

How much height from the roof to the top of the rack? Dang Garage doors lol.

Dead center at the back is 3.5", and when I measured up from the rain gutter at the back door it's 6". Yeah darn garage doors. I can now get into the garage with the awning atached, but I couldn't do that with the ARS rack.

Thanks for this video! I'm about to mount the same awning to my Rhino Rack and was looking for a solution for this.
I live in Norway and we don't have access to anything like Home Depot where I live, do you have links to the larger bolts and brackets for the t-slot so that I can order them from the US? Already added the one you linked to my Amazon cart 😊

Hi! Thanks for watching. 😀 I used the 3/8 16 button head bolt with strut channel nuts.

What lenght did you use on the bolts? The link I opened showed the 1/2", but they seem to be longer than that?

Hey Buddy.. Just using a Gopro Hero 12 for the most part. Not ideal but it's working for now.
