    In this video, I start rebuilding the world's fastest Cobra like it's 1999! The Mustang was abandoned over 20 years ago with only 17,000 miles and in this episode, we remove the engine and take it apart to discover exactly what happened. I also bought a new used engine site unseen that we tear into and wait until you see what I find! Enjoy some SVT content and thanks for watching!

      @@jamesemcclure I mean I'm not there with him but I am pretty sure it's common knowledge to pretty much support the front of the car on the table instead of the lift (obviously doing so "safely", meaning not being stupid with it) where it's pushing the cross member up into the vehicle so the bolts aren't holding the subframe in, rather the weight is!
      IF the bolt had pressure on it then it likely wouldn't have spun as it did, the cross member better not flex or twist so yes it should be completely supported! Balance plays no part here, what balance do you need? He removed the last nut and bolt and nothing moved...... I don't know where you get any weight pivots or there was any difficulty removing the bolt.
      It's evident you never removed an engine using a hydraulic lift table and a vehicle lift. I highly recommend it though! It can be a little trickier in a transverse configuration when it's more than just a K frame and symmetrical as it is here. Then again, everything is a little trickier with a transverse mounted drivetrain.

      @@commonsenseisdeadin2024 "I don't know where you get any weight pivots or there was any difficulty removing the bolt. " Alex expressed difficulty removing the last bolt. • @commonsenseisdeadin2024
      @commonsenseisdeadin2024 Před 5 měsíci

      @@jamesemcclure yeah it was more difficult because the retaining tab bent, was rusty and the nut was spinning. He spoke too soon as all the others didn't have the same issue. (Cause Murphy is a bitch like that! 😂) The tabs are strictly a convenience (mainly for assembly). With the car sitting 20+ years and being a northern/midwestern car rust is going to happen (regardless of it not being driven in the winter).
      Had nothing to do with balance, shifting, pivoting. I however misspoke, the K member did drop a little when he backed the last bolt out.

    Want to touch base on the part where you heated the driveshaft bolts. You can heat the threads inside, such as header/manifold bolts, or drive shaft bolts by heating the bolt head cherry red, let it cool (during cooling it transfers the heat to the threads off the bolt and into the part therefore separating the bolt from the part) and after about 3-5 minutes the bolt 99% of the time come out with ease. Oxy/acetylene is usually the ideal tool for that. Give it a try! Great show!

    Something you may want to look into, depending on your goals; the 96-99 Cobra used an aluminum block made by Teksid in Italy. Some early 01s had a Teksid block also, but most of them had the WAP block, made in Canada. Both are fine for the majority of mild to moderate street/strip builds, but the Teksid is known to be superior for really high horsepower builds.

    • @AwesomeFinish

      WAP blocks as well as pretty much any iron block are all good for 4 digit power. The teksid things is mostly an internet fad with zero real world proof of their superiority... at least in the power levels that most people run. I ran 800 rwhp through a WAP block with no issues.

    SPS bolts were used from le factory. Looks like a factory crank with that undercut radius on the rod journal, you don't see that too often on aftermarket cranks, they usually go with a fillet of some flavor. Be interesting to know if the rod bolts are 8740 or 2000 material. Rod bearings are a race series Clevite, pretty good.

    • @commonsenseisdeadin2024
      @commonsenseisdeadin2024 Před 5 měsíci

      Factory crank is a Kellogg forged unit. All aftermarket forged 4.6 cranks I know of all have counterweights just the same (Eagle, Manley, Scat) I've never seen a knife edge counter weight on a 4.6 crank.
      Can see in the video it has 8740 bolts (which is plenty strong, however I don't know why anyone wouldn't opt for the 2000 upgrade on a forged rod...)

    • @UnkleBobbyB302
      @UnkleBobbyB302 Před 5 měsíci

      Easiest way I found to check the crank without looking for the KC stamp on the first counterweight is to see if it has counterweights in the center. The factory forged cranks had counterweights but the cast ones didn’t. I believe the Manley, eagle, etc forged options as well all don’t have counterweights on the center.

    I would stick some valves in the old heads and if needed, manually polish the valve seats, no need to go to a machine shop! The old heads seem to be much more tuned and probably tuned towards the supercharger you have! Bottom end looks amazing on the new one, so best of both worlds!

    • @danieledwards1081
      @danieledwards1081 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Manually polish the valve seats? Did I just watch the same video? Those things are roached, repairable most likely yes, but will need new valves, seats and guides at an absolute minimum

    • @cristianosantos9588
      @cristianosantos9588 Před 5 měsíci

      @@danieledwards1081 it will need new valves that can be manually grinded to the existing seats. I just said this because the heads looked very very nice, despite the carnage of the valves. My only concern would be the seats, yes, some of them are rusty and could be a pain...

    • @danieledwards1081
      @danieledwards1081 Před 5 měsíci

      @@cristianosantos9588 there's no way those seats will not need replacing, on top of that, you get what you put in with a valve job, better off just getting the whole lot refreshed properly

    • @commonsenseisdeadin2024
      @commonsenseisdeadin2024 Před 5 měsíci

      Factory heads are plenty sufficient.
      The old heads I'd throw in the scrap bin. Seeing those valves I can only imagine the seat is no longer.
      The block is probably scrap, I don't know if a Teksid is worth putting new sleeves in.
      If it has factory rods they are junk (considering 99/01 Cobra's didn't have forged pistons or rods, only the crank), the crank MIGHT be the only thing worth anything but there was quite a bit of water in the crankcase and 20 years sitting.... IF the original damage isn't done to the crank.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 Před 5 měsíci

      @@commonsenseisdeadin2024dude the teksid is the baddest aluminum block Ford ever put into anything factory it's absolutely worth saving as are the heads. They came with factory cranks the factory rods and pistons are the only things that aren't way way better than what was on gt back then and the only things that aren't comparable or better than what terminators had. They didn't make aftermarket 4v heads the heads are always worth saving.

    Once again, an awesome and entertaining video. Some guys would put a washer in the end of the pipe to close the opening to a smaller size so that the engine heated up even faster. I wouldn’t even think about it but that is the third time I’ve seen that and when I asked the first guy, that’s what he told me. Great video Alex. Thank you.

    Super excited to see you start on the Cobra project! I know you're going to make it probably even faster than it was back in 1999! I have always wanted a Cobra usually I like the 2003-2004 facelifted models with the factory supercharger or upgrades but these were good as well especially if they had a blower installed factory no blower. I honestly appreciate the content you put out it always makes my day on Saturdays! Hope you have a great rest of your weekend and I can't wait to finish watching the rest of this build cheers 🥂 Alex!

    Let’s go! I’ve been patiently waiting for this build for what feels like forever! Beefcake is a legend in the Mustang Community. It’s awesome to see you bringing his creation back to life! I didn’t see the head cooling mod on the heads of the old motor during disassembly. The coolant in the 4V’s dead heads at the back of the cylinder heads causing catastrophic failure in some cases. UPR makes a nice head cooling mod kit. 👍🏼
